Race 1. (12:30) Midway (Bm72) 1100m
14 Mad Darcey (Bet Now: $5.00) has come back in super order for David Pfieffer and rates as one of the hardest to beat. This mare resumed with a bang when a first up winner at Gosford before racing here two weeks ago in the Midway where she got back and held up before eventually finding clear and working home with purpose behind Martial Music. Hard fit now, if she gets clear air early, I think she has the finale to be too good.
6 Martial Music (Bet Now: $4.50) looks to have returned in really good order for Anthony Cummings. He resumed with a bang a fortnight back here in the Midway, settling wide no cover but was absolutely trucking before being clicked up by Chad and he went through his gears late for an impressive win. Has to be given respect.
10 Rebel Dean (Bet Now: $7.50) has been up a little while for Team Price but he’s racing really well. He ran a fortnight back in the Midway here where he got off the speed and presented to be a threat in the straight but was no match late for Martial Music in a solid effort. He hasn’t got much upside I feel but only has to hold his form to be around the mark.
Race 2. (13:05) James Squire (Bm88) 1200m
3 Our Kobison… (Bet Now: $2.05) could he potentially put his hand up for some blacktype with a win here? He is a progressive animal for Angela Davies that is heading in the right direction, winning two on the bounce, the latest being four weeks ago where he ran the 1200m out strongly to win and win well. Good test here, but confident he runs well.
4 Pereille (Bet Now: $6.00) is a talented animal for James Cummings that rates as one of the hardest to beat. He has been kept on ice, having not raced since Jan 27 when a somewhat arrogant winner at The Valley, continuing his love affair with that track. Tick over trial was quite strong and he does appear suited when racing on the fresh side.
6 Tashi (Bet Now: $8.00) has come back in really good order for Team Snowden and she’s a key chance here. Both runs back have come here, winning well fresh before bumping into a nice horse, Whinchat, two weeks back, looming but didn’t have the finale to wear him down. Commands respect in a winnable race.
Race 3. (13:40) Tab Highway Hcp (C3) 1000m
2 Perennial (Bet Now: $4.40) is a nice horse for Messara/Gavranich. 3/3 to start his career, resuming over 900m at Newcastle where he gave them a start and a beating, sitting off the speed before coming with a well timed run and finishing best to win and win well. He’s better than that grade and stepping up to Highway grade, I think he’s the one they have to beat.
4 Outishka (Bet Now: $15.00) is a short course animal that will land on speed and take running down. Resumed with a bang over 900m at Newcastle, producing sustained speed from the front and giving nothing else a look in, winning quite impressively. Good test here, but with his racing style, she’ll give himself every chance.
10 Bomarea (Bet Now: $14.00) is better suited here but it just depends what petrol is left in the tank. She ran a few weeks back at Rosehill when wide no cover and tired late to finish down the track behind Caballus. Back to 1000m and back to Highway grade, her best is good enough to threaten.
Race 4. (14:15) Skyline Stakes 1200m
1 Storm Boy (Bet Now: $1.18) is the winner, all things being equal. He has been kept on ice since recording one of the best wins from a juvenile in a long time when winning the Magic Millions at the Gold Coast. He burned the candle throughout yet was still dominant in the run to the line. Tick over trial…sizzling, he’s a winner, the best of his generation…the winner for mine.
3 Prost (Bet Now: $12.00) is a smart juvenile for GaiBott that comes here four weeks between runs since resuming with a strong on speed win in the Canonbury at Rosehill. He was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to fend them off and win in a good effort. Not sure he beats the stablemate but with his racing style, he is a must for exotics.
4 Parkour (Bet Now: $13.00) is an interesting runner. He was rated as a key chance in the Magic Millions but was scratched the week of due to injury and has been kept on ice with the Slipper in mind. Trial was solid and although he’ll concede a start, he should be strong at the end and is a first four contender.
Race 5. (14:50) Yarraman Park (Bm88) 2000m
1 Redstone Well (Bet Now: $3.80) is a progressive galloper for Annabel Neasham and is suited up to 2000m. His last couple of runs have come over the mile here, the latest being two weeks ago when finishing best and proving too strong, just, for a very much in form Estadio Mestalla. Annabel did say leading in that this race was the focus vs last start, so the fact he won last time suggests he’s flying and is clearly hard to beat.
10 Louisville (Bet Now: $6.50) should appreciate getting back up in trip. Strong winner over 2000m two back before coming back to the mile a fortnight back where he got a mile out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, I really liked the way he finished his race off behind Redstone Well. Back up in trip, can settle closer, he’ll take holding out.
2 Verona (Bet Now: $23.00) is a Ciaron Maher trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, likely with Sydney Cup aspirations. She had a mixed Spring where she looked like a donkey at one stage but she spanked them at Rosehill before placing behind Athabascan here in the Tatts Cup before an end of prep run in the Colin Stephen. Trials have been encouraging and 2000m first up tells me she’s fit. Watch the market.
Race 6. (15:25) Sweet Embrace Stakes 1200m
1 Manaal (Bet Now: $2.10) picks herself. Michael Freedman trained filly that comes through the Widden where she was very good from off the speed when a closing second to Lady Of Camelot, and we saw what she did in the Blue Diamond, so that form is clearly A1 for this and with upside, she’s the one to beat.
6 Extreme Diva (Bet Now: $12.00) has been solid in two career outings for Anthony Cummings and is one of the key chances here. Did more than enough on debut in the Widden behind Lady Of Camelot before going to the Pierro a fortnight back when far from disgraced in defeat behind the horse I feel is nearly #1 seed for the Slipper, Switzerland, so I think that reads very well for this.
11 Fly Fly (Bet Now: $7.50) is a nice filly I feel. Team Hawkes trained filly that was thrown in the deep end on debut in the Pierro where she ran a very credible race at start one when fourth to Switzerland. No horse of that quality here I feel and with good upside to come, she rates as one of the hardest to beat.
Race 7. (16:00) Verry Elleegant Stakes 1600m
9 Fangirl (Bet Now: $1.30) should be winning. Chris Waller trained mare that resumed like Winx with such an arrogant win in the Apollo, giving them a start and a beating in such an impressive return. Fitter and up to 1600m, upside, she’s in the zone, similar field to the Apollo…I think it’s a case of good luck beating her. But, if the forecast for rain is right, then her brilliance is taken away and it becomes a race.
1 Think It Over (Bet Now: $9.00) is a beauty for Kerry Parker. He resumed two weeks back in the Apollo where he looked gone for a few strides but he ran through the pain barrier and kept finding the line in a very solid effort when third to Fangirl. I highly doubt he turns the tables but he’s so consistent and rarely runs poorly.
2 Cascadian (Bet Now: $21.00) can run a place. You can pretty much say he is first up here given the Apollo run was pretty much a barrier trial, getting no room to move in the straight. The gate means he will get back to near last again but should be strong late and is a must for exotics. I think he can finish second/third.
Race 8. (16:35) Surround Stakes 1400m
If there is no second up syndrome, I think 4 Learning To Fly (Bet Now: $3.60) is going to take a power of beating here. This girl resumed off a long lay off in the Light Fingers two weeks ago where she was given one of the best losing rides you’ll see and she looked all over the winner but found one better in Kimochi, who was given a good ride as well. Fitter, up to 1400m, clearly hard to beat if she bounces off the run, which you’d think she will.
3 Kimochi (Bet Now: $6.00) is a ripping filly for Gary Portelli and is deserving of a big race win. This girl resumed in the Light Fingers where she saved ground nearer the inside before edging into clear air and in a driving finish, she was too good for Learning To Fly in a great clash. Like her up to 1400m and she will be strong at the end. One of the leading contenders.
11 Arctic Glamour (Bet Now: $20.00) can take this out without surprising. This girl resumed in the Light Fingers where she got off the speed and was keen in the run. She was solid late but I think the early burn and being a touch keen in the run saw her empty late. Fitter and up in trip, she is certainly good enough to take this out.
Race 9. (17:15) Guy Walter Stakes 1400m
2 Hinged (Bet Now: $2.80) is a Chris Waller trained mare that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since the Summer when very game in defeat in The Ingham after sitting wide no cover throughout behind Loch Eagle. She is a mare who can sprint very well fresh and she won’t know herself in a race like this, so the market will be fascinating.
1 Duais (Bet Now: $8.00) is the class of the field and that is going to carry her a long way. She didn’t win during the Spring but she ran fabulous races. You can mount a case she should have gone close to winning the Cox Plate, so that is how well she went in the Spring. 1400m is on the short side, but you can’t deny the class factor and with that, how well she is in at the weights.
The value lies with 4 Barbie’s Fox (Bet Now: $15.00) for Team Hayes, especially if the rain comes during the day and it gives this track cushion. Found the track too firm and the trip too short fresh in the Rubiton three weeks ago at Caulfield. Much better set up here and for mine, she is the value, but the forecast for rain needs to be correct.
Race 10. (17:55) Liverpool City Cup 1300m
13 Whinchat (Bet Now: $3.80) has come back a different, better horse for David Pfieffer. This guy is 2/2 this time in, resuming with an absolute bang on the Kenso before a strong all the way winner here two weeks ago when stepping up sharply in grade but he made a mess of them. Another good test here but I am confident he can measure up.
2 Coal Crusher (Bet Now: $3.70) looks to be humming this prep for Joe Pride. He resumed a fortnight back in the Expressway where he chased the strong speed and being first up, he was entitled to knock right up but he kept finding, only run down late by King Of Sparta. Fitter, up in trip and is clearly hard to beat provided last run hasn’t gutted him.
11 Hard To Say (Bet Now: $9.50) has been excellent in two runs back from a spell for Jason Deamer. He ran a beauty fresh at the Gold Coast behind King Of Sparta before going to the Southern Cross where he was no match for Lady Laguna but he kept finding the line in a good effort. Off that, 1300m is fine here, and he has the race fitness on his side. Threat for sure.
