2/10/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Flemington, Turnbull Stakes day

Group l racing returns to Flemington this Saturday where it is Turnbull Stakes Day, with the 2000m feature attracting a mouth watering clash between Verry Elleegant and Incentivise. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out nine metres for the entire circuit.

10 Get In The Spirit (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) looks a good mover for the Price/Kent team so I’ll be with her on debut. She has had one jumpout to get ready for start one, which came over 600m at Sandown, leading throughout and she was trucking under Lane, who sticks for this race. With these early 2YO races, it’s all about guessing. But I’m guessing she’s pretty good.

7 Robusto (Bet Now: $3.60 TOP ODDS) looks to have his share of talent. Chris Waller trained colt that jumped out here last Thursday down the straight. sat back off the speed before peeling towards the outside fence, found clear air and gee he let down good and won impressively. Hard to beat here.

11 Street Delight (Bet Now: $34.00 TOP ODDS) creates interest. Team Corstens trained filly that has had two jumpouts to prepare for start one. Latest trial, she was a bit raw and new when clicked up, but when she switched on, she let down quite well when finishing third. I think she’ll run a positive race here.

8 Gunstock (Bet Now: $2.80 TOP ODDS) looks to have his share of talent for the Price/Kent team. Wide no cover when resuming in a Cranbourne maiden but despite that tough run, he was much too good for them and was miles too good for them. Good test for him here, but I think he’s up to it.

1 Tutukaka (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS) deserves another chance. Tony Pike trained three year old that resumed over 1400m here three weeks back. Wide no cover for the trip and he couldn’t sustain the run when down the track behind Mr Mozart. Fitter, up to 1800m and for mine, this race is on the thin side overall, so he can bounce back.

4 Footlights (Bet Now: $12.00 TOP ODDS) deserves another chance. Was on him when he ran last Wednesday in the Derby Trial. Not sure he would have won, but he was given zero hope in the run and copped a bad check. If he gets the rub of the green, he can run a positive race at double figure odds.

1 Yearning (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) is bred to be a star and a win here will well and truly see her stocks rise. Got the maiden win out of the way at Newcastle on Cup Day, lumping 61kg in a maiden and producing the goods. The time was just fair but she is bred to eat up further and she gets that here.

Out to the mile on the bigger track, want to give 3 Morioka (Bet Now: $15.00 TOP ODDS) another look. Not sure Caulfield was to her liking in the Guineas Prelude but she stuck on and wasn’t too bad in defeat, albeit the race rated poorly for the meeting, which is a concern, but she has the Waller polish and upside.

8 Devout (Bet Now: $21.00 TOP ODDS) Hero deserves another chance. Good in defeat two back at Sandown before going to the Guineas Prelude where she failed to fire, and was quite plain, but post race, I don’t think she pulled up 100%. Off the runs prior to last time, she’s in this with a shout.

1 Zoutori (Bet Now: $3.50 TOP ODDS) saves his best for the straight course and second up, happy to butter up. Was on his back when he resumed in the Bobbie Lewis. He loomed to win but couldn’t quite finish it off and had to settle for a fourth to Splintex. Got more upside than most and proven here, he’ll take beating.

2 Splintex (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) is a hard horse to catch for Mark Newnham but his best is certainly good enough and his best was on display when on speed and proving too good in the Bobbie Lewis three weeks ago, fending them off and kicking strongly. Reproduces that here, he’ll look the winner for a fair chunk of the race.

6 Away Game (Bet Now: $3.80 TOP ODDS) is a ripping mare for the Maher/Eustace camp. Game second at Caulfield two back before going to the Bobbie Lewis. She loomed and was there to beat Splintex but the Sydney sider kicked on too strongly and was too good. Honest mare that’ll be around the mark.

Did they work out how to ride 2 General Beau (Bet Now: $4.80) last start? Usually he is a go forward who sits on speed, tries hard but just feels the pinch late. But at Caulfield two weeks ago, they rode him cold, saved him for one run and he produced a brilliant finale to get up and win. If that is how they are going to ride him, he could well be a star sprinting 3YO. Keen to see how he goes.

1 Ingratiating (Bet Now: $3.90) is a beauty for James Cummings that will look the winner at some stage I’m sure. He was hailed the winner when presented here three weeks ago but couldn’t hold out the brilliant finale produced by Ranch Hand. Reckon with a more conservative steer in terms of waiting to push the button, he’ll be far more effective I feel.

9 Forbes (Bet Now: $27.00) is one of the better maidens going around in Australia at the moment. Not much went his way first up at Caulfield but was good late from off the speed behind General Beau. His barrier manners need to improve but I think he has the talent to be a threat at odds.

Staying at 1400m is a knock with 2 Instant Celebrity (Bet Now: $6.50), but hard fit now, I’ll give her one more chance at the trip. Good late first up in the Cockram behind Probabeel. Then went to the Let’s Elope where she was flat footed but stayed on and was warming to the task late. To my eye, she looks a perfect candidate for the Cantala down in the weights, so staying at 1400m I don’t like, but she has class.

3 Mystic Journey.. (Bet Now: $4.40) is she back? Wasn’t sure what to make of her leading into the Let’s Elope but she ran a beauty from the back when a closing second to impressive winner and a very much in form mare, Turaath. Excellent second up record and has got good upside.

11 Vanna Girl (Bet Now: $20.00) is a quality mare and wouldn’t shock me if she can resume a winner for Team Edmonds. Pretty solid Autumn/Winter prep from this mare, which ended with a close up fourth at Eagle Farm behind Reloaded. Good fresh record, trialled well leading in, she’s a knockout chance.

4 Verry Elleegant (Bet Now: $2.20) is a champion mare and with give in the track, I have to be with her. Yes, helped by the track pattern in the George Main, I’ll concede that, but keep in mind she was a month between runs and had to change course. Outstanding performance. Proven big time performer that just loves to dig in. Hopefully the forecast for rain is right.

I’m a believer in 3 Incentivise (Bet Now: $2.60). Wasn’t sure after what he did in Queensland where he was very good to the eye, but had beaten nothing. But he resumed in the Makybe Diva, did it from the front and really, just toyed with his rivals. He’s suited up in trip and this race will be a good guide as to what level he is at. If he wins this, he just about wins the Caulfield Cup.

1 Sir Dragonet (Bet Now: $7.00) looks to have returned in excellent order. Cox Plate winner from last year that resumed in the Makybe Diva and loved the way he closed off behind a moderate speed set by the eventual winner, Incentivise. He’s got improvement to come and a drop of rain only helps his cause to try and provide an upset.

4 Pondus (Bet Now: $5.50) is a good thing if he’s ready. Golden ticket for the Melbourne Cup to the winner of this race, you would assume he’s ready to go. Showed good promise in two runs this time last year, just missing out on a Cup berth. He has run well in Ireland since and has come here, purely for the Melbourne Cup. He wins if he’s right.

13 Tralee Rose (Bet Now: $8.00) looks to be ticking along beautifully to my eye. Good fresh in the Heatherlie before going to the Naturalism when near the speed and battled on pretty well in defeat behind Nonconformist. Hard fit now and getting to a suitable trip, she’ll take beating here.

3 Knights Order (Bet Now: $18.00) can run a much improved race. Resumed in the Naturalism where he was near the speed before being flat footed when the sprint went on but picked up and was a little unlucky late. Up in trip, fitter, he’ll roll forward and take some running down.

9 Tavidance (Bet Now: $5.50) on top. Price/Kent trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since Golden Mile Day at Bendigo where he was back in the run and failed to come on in an on pace dominated affair won by leader Groundswell. Given a good break, trialled well leading in and a bit of rain forecast is ideal.

1 Aysar (Bet Now: $5.00) rises big time in weight, but I think he’s racing really well. Wide throughout in the Rupert Clarke but battled on gamely when third to Sierra Sue. Back to Flemington and back a fair bit in depth, I think he is on track and a win wouldn’t shock at all with him.

5 Morvada (Bet Now: $11.00) will be out of trouble on speed and trying hard. Resumed in the Whylie at Morphettvile where he copped pressure on speed, couldn’t get the lead and did a power of work, but despite that, he was brave. Better suited here, should land in front and be hard to run down.

BEST BET: Race Eight Number 4 Pondus

NEXT BEST: Race Four Number 1 Zoutori

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 9 Tavidance
