The Parks track at Morphettville is where SA metro racing will take place on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Oaklands Plate 🏆: View the Field for the Oaklands Plate
Race 1. (11:36AM) Terry Howe Printing Handicap 1550m
6 Kalamon (Bet Now: $2.45) is a Team Jolly trained three year old that is flying. With clear air, think he goes close to winning two back at Murray Bridge when fourth to Just Rolling before going to Balaklava where he found a perfect race and looked a good thing…but not sure he was a ten length good thing. Gee it was impressive and he ran sharp time relative to the meeting. Hard to beat.
Back to 1550m I do like for 4 Tumanako (Bet Now: $5.00). Phillip Stokes trained three year old that attempted to lead throughout over 1700m last start at Geelong and tried hard, but couldn’t finish it off and tired late behind the above average Busuttin/Young galloper Desert Realm. Back to 1550m, should find the front and prove hard to beat.
Back up in trip is interesting with 3 Tubby Two Tracks (Bet Now: $8.50) for Chris Bieg. Ran over 1400m here three weeks ago when wide no cover for the trip and it was a day where on speed/rail was the spot to be, so forget she went around I think behind Defiant Dancer. Back up to 1550m is interesting. Doesn’t have the class of some of these, but can fill a first four spot.
Race 2. (12:11PM) Holdfast Insurance Handicap 1400m
5 Defiant Dancer (Bet Now: $2.20) is a son of Foxwedge for Phillip Stokes that got conditions to suit three weeks ago on the Parks track when finding the front, where leaders were seriously advantaged, and kicked on too well to win impressively, albeit helped by bias. But he has found winning form now and can go on with it.
A rise to 1400m looks ideal for the McEvoy runner 3 Winning Partner (Bet Now: $3.90). Both runs this time in have come over 1200m, the latest of those seeing him finish best to win two weeks ago at Murray Bridge and defying an alarming betting drift. Hard fit now and tends to save his best for 1400m, so he’s clearly hard to beat.
6 Flop (Bet Now: $12.00) isn’t far off a win. Gordon Richards trained mare who comes through the France’s Boy race from a few weeks back on the Parks track where she was back off a very moderate speed and had no chance given the way the race was run but kept on and was game in defeat. Wants a good speed and if that can eventuate here, she can win.
Race 3. (12:46PM) TAB Handicap 1550m
I think the Blinkers on first time will be the gear change that gets 3 Rogues Point (Bet Now: $2.30) home for Anthony Freedman. He was odds on last time out on the Synthetic at Ballarat where he was on speed before taking the front early in the straight but couldn’t put them away and was grabbed late. Blinkers on to sharpen him up and Vorster steers. He’ll do me.
Ricky Moore has 2 Rothmoore (Bet Now: $3.70) in just about career best form. Has won two of three this time in, the latest coming three weeks ago at this track/distance when sitting off a good speed before Stubby sliced his way through the field and it was race over once he got clear air. Form out of the race has been good. Just doesn’t want this track to dry out too much.
4 The Sidekick (Bet Now: $13.00) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with Anthony Freedman but now finds himself with Will Clarken and we know the record he has at improving tried horses. This horse has been going okay this time in, but doesn’t have the greatest of racing patterns. In saying that, there appears to be good speed here, so he’ll get his chance to finish over the top.
Race 4. (1:21PM) Adelaide Galvanising Handicap 1950m
4 Sign Of Ussuri (Bet Now: $2.30) can bounce back into the winners list. He was three weeks between runs and coming back in trip when racing over 1500m last Saturday at Gawler where he had a good battle with Analytica, but that horse got the bob in when it counted on the line and was too good. Think a rise in trip is ideal and he’s got more brilliance than this lot. Hopefully that can come to the fore.
5 Busker’s Ballad (Bet Now: $13.00) gets the Blinkers back on and looks hard to beat. He ran in the Bertwhistle race from last Saturday at Gawler where he was back, wide with cover, and made up okay ground without really threatening. Like he gets the Blinkers on and from the inside gate can sit much closer in the run.
10 Exalted Ruth (Bet Now: $10.00) remains down in the weights and has to be respected for Grant Young. Comes back to 1950m after racing over 2100m last Saturday at Gawler when back off the speed and took a while to get into her work but closed off nicely late to run third to Bertwhistle. With 51kg on her back again after the claim, she’ll be strong late.
Race 5. (2:01pm) Schweppes Oaklands Plate 1400m
The Macdonald/Gluyas team will win this race. Just a matter of picking which one. The one I’m with is 2 Super Striker (Bet Now: $6.50), who won at Murray Bridge two weeks ago where he was ridden positively by Jess Eaton and was strong to the line in winning. He’s been looking like a horse that wants further, which he gets here and should prove hard to beat.
9 Another Award (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Shamus Award filly that ran second to Super Striker at Murray Bridge a fortnight back. She sat off the speed before peeling wider and letting down strongly, but couldn’t quite get there, eventually running a narrow second. Little query on her running a strong 1400m but if this becomes a sit/sprint, she’s got the turn of foot to win.
4 Kahaylaan (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Team McEvoy trained juvenile who got better as the race went on in a Gawler maiden two back before going to Balaklava where he just took a bit too long to get into his work when third to the in form Classy Jaybee. He’s racing as if he will eat up 1400m and has the form around the older horses which I like.
Race 6. (2:41PM) Chapel Hill Handicap 1250m
4 Nipperkin (Bet Now: $8.00) has been up a fair while for Barry Brook but continues to race well. This mare ran over 1200m at Morphettville a few weeks ago where she got back before peeling wider and finishing off strongly. Just unable to go with Arkham Knight late, finishing a solid second. She’s nearing a win and gets her chance here.
8 Left Hand Man (Bet Now: $2.70) is a son of Ambidexter for the Jon O’Connor team that attempted to lead throughout when resuming at Murray Bridge two weeks ago and he gave a really good kick under Zechner. Just think his condition gave out late when grabbed near the peg by the race fit Winning Partner. Now he has the run under the belt, should be stronger at the end.
2 Arkham Knight (Bet Now: $10.00) seems to be racing pretty well for the John Macmillan team. Got the wet track he loves when winning two back at Morphettville before going to Murray Bridge when unwanted in betting but he ran quite well again when a close up third to Winning Partner. If he gets conditions to suit, he can take this out for sure.
Race 7. (3:21PM) Furphy Handicap 1000m
Not easy going from maiden to 64 grade, but 9 Hypersonic (Bet Now: $1.70) does look above average for the McEvoy camp. Debuted over 900m two weeks ago at Murray Bridge in what looked a thin maiden, but the way he put them away and drew clear late was very likeable. What was also likeable is the market support. He was heavily backed so he was expected to do that. Confident he can measure up.
5 Akkacan (Bet Now: $12.00) will take some beating here. He’s rising nine years of age but Jon O’Connor has him going super. Ran over this track/distance three weeks ago and liked the way he finished his race off from near last when second to impressive winner Streetcar Stranger. Claim helps, gets good speed in front and will be strong late.
Hasn’t Heather Lehmann got 2 Beermint (Bet Now: $10.00) going super. Both starts/wins this prep have come over 1000m at Murray Bridge, each time she’s had to spend petrol tickets to hold a forward spot and she’s been there to be run down, but has simply been too good. Harder here, not sure he wins, can fill a first four spot.
Race 8. (3:56PM) TAB Handicap 1250m
1 Sunmate (Bet Now: $7.00) is on the seven day back up for Stacey Kotz after racing last Saturday at Gawler. He was well backed but just got too far back in the run but he did make up ground and was good late behind Call Me Dexter. Has run well on the Parks track previously. The knock being the lone quick back up run, he didn’t fire.
Think firmer footing will definitely help the Phillip Stokes trained 3 God’s Penny (Bet Now: $5.00). Luckless two back on the Parks track when beaten a lip before racing on the course proper there at Morphettville where he was there to win but wasn’t in the best ground and was bloused in the last couple of strides by Hushiano. He’s going well…but how many chances can get a horse get? Last one for me.
2 Kayseri (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Team Jolly trained three year old that was racing quite poorly at metro level so the stable gave him a freshen up and ran last Wednesday at Balaklava when just off the speed and tried hard when a close up second to Classy Jaybee. Does he want a rise to 1400m? Interesting to see how he goes here remaining at 1200m.
Race 9. (4:35PM) AAMI Handicap 1400m
13 The Ant’s Pants (Bet Now: $4.80) is very hard to beat here. Sue Jaensch trained mare that ran over 1300m on the Parks track a few weeks ago and against the track pattern, she worked home quite strongly to run third to Task And Purpose. She’d love a fast tempo here to sit off and launch late and if that can eventuate, she’ll take some beating.
I’m keen on 2 Splash Some Cash (Bet Now: $18.00) running a big race here and could easily back her. Resumed for David Page last Saturday at Gawler and he looked to be trucking well behind the speed but got a severe check from Call Me Dexter and that sealed his fate. Picked up though and was really good late. Up to 1400m is a big tick, he looks to have come back well and quick back up efforts have been solid.
10 Carlaluisa (Bet Now: $4.80) can be hard to trust, but she’s going well I feel. Ran over 1200m at Murray Bridge two weeks ago where she got back in the run and I thought Stubby rode a good race on her. She just took a bit too long to wind up and by the time she did, the race was pretty much over. She’s hard to beat I feel against these.
