Race 1. (11:50) Mornington Sires 1000m
2 The Speed Machine (Bet Now:Β $3.00) is four weeks between runs since a debut win at Morphettville Parks, beating three rivals and while the depth wasn’t deep, he made a mess of them in a sharp display. Good racing style, he should be around the mark.
8 Luna Vega (Bet Now:Β $2.60) is a Lucky Vega filly that resumes for Busuttin/Young. She had two runs in the Spring, the latest seeing her finish midfield in the Merson Cooper. Looks to have jumped out sharply, should press forward and take beating.
1 Knurl (Bet Now:Β $4.50) has been kept on ice since placing in The Showdown at Caulfield when doing early work in the run and while safely held, he was far from disgraced behind Big Wigs. Like him back to 1000m and the overall depth here is quite thin.
Race 2. (12:20) 200 Plus Podcast (Bm74) 1000m
13 Street Artist (Bet Now:Β $2.15) looks a smart three year old for Team Freedman and confident he is top seed here. He hasn’t raced since Cup Day when second to Pallaton but has looked quite strong in jumpout work and strikes a winnable race.
6 La Astro Chat (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran a big race at Flemington in a better race than this last time. Should get a reasonable comfortable lead here and should take a stack of running down.
7 Along The River (Bet Now:Β $9.50) ran second over this trip at Sandown on Easter Monday. He tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through when a narrow second to Balastier. Knocking on the door to win and strikes a winnable race.
Race 3. (12:55) Catanach's Jewellers (Bm70) 1200m
The weather forecast scares the you know what when it comes to 7 Actuality (Bet Now:Β $2.00) because I think on a dry deck, she’s a great gamble. She was bolting at Flemington when resuming a few weeks ago but when it came to letting down, the wheels were spinning. If the track can be firmer vs first up, I think she’ll take beating.
12 Crickwood (Bet Now:Β $15.00) commands respect for me. Big win first up at Warrnambool before racing there again when off speed and worked home strongly from the back. Hard fit now, can settle closer in the run and strikes a winnable race.
2 Gellhorn (Bet Now:Β $11.00) comes back to 1200m after resuming over 1400m at Pakenham just over three weeks back. She landed on speed and tried hard but just felt the pinch late in the piece. Back in trip I like and firmer footing, she’s an improver.
Race 4. (13:30) Peninsula Kubota Hcp 1200m
2 Prestige Snitzel (Bet Now:Β $23.00) is a Matt Laurie trained filly that resumes. She hasn’t raced since Derby Day when down the track in the Wakeful behind Getta Good Feeling. Looks to have jumped out well for the return and will be stronger than most late.
3 Naifah (Bet Now:Β $7.00) is a Price/Kent trained filly that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Jan 24 when far from disgraced in the Manfred at Caulfield behind Space Rider. Looks to have jumped out well, watch betting.
1 Torsheen (Bet Now:Β $6.50) was a forgive I thought from two weeks ago at Caulfield when wide no cover on speed and the hard run just told late behind Extragalactic. If she can get a better run in transit, home track advantage, she’s in the mix.
Race 5. (14:05) Louvretec Melbourne (Bm74) 1600m
4 A Diva (Bet Now:Β $2.35) is two weeks between runs since racing over this trip at Caulfield, attempting to lead throughout and tried hard but was nabbed near the peg. Looks the leader and I don’t think up/in will be no disadvantage.
6 Seafall (Bet Now:Β $6.50) was solid in defeat at Caulfield a fortnight back. Ridden with intent to land near the speed, thought she was there to win but just whacked in the run to the line. Think with a more patient steer, she’s dangerous against these.
1 Ashana (Bet Now:Β $61.00) is an interesting runner. Former German mare that makes her Aussie debut for Team Hayes. Best form is over further but looks to have jumped out well enough so I’d say watch betting and see what it does.
Race 6. (14:40) No Fuss Event Hire (Bm84) 1600m
3 Wonder Boy (Bet Now:Β $2.10) should take a power of beating here for mine. He ran three weeks ago at Rosehill when off speed and worked home with real purpose in the straight when second to Captain Furai. Bursting to win and strikes a very winnable race. Best on the card for me.
1 Cadmus (Bet Now:Β $21.00) is a Team Freedman trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Dec 27 when down the track over 2025m at Cranbourne. He is a horse who can sprint well fresh and looks to have jumped out nicely enough.
10 Chartres (Bet Now:Β $12.00) is getting a little long in the tooth now and his best is probably behind him however this looks a winnable race. He will get the run of the race from the barrier and should now be rock hard fit for the mile and be there abouts at good odds.
Race 7. (15:20) Mornington Guineas 1600m
I like 1 Miewa (Bet Now:Β $13.00) for Nick Ryan. He resumed three weeks ago over 1400m at Flemington when down the track behind Exit. He didn’t let down on the bog track and was never a factor. Firmer footing here, he’ll only run well I say.
2 Satirically (Bet Now:Β $3.00) comes here off the back of an Easter Monday win over this trip at Sandown, leading throughout and he gave nothing else a look in to win impressively. Good racing style, off a win, he clearly appeals against these.
12 Grand Omaha (Bet Now:Β $11.00) comes here off the back of a win at the midweeks at Caulfield Heath where she gave them a start and a beating in an impressive effort. Harder here, but think she’ll run well at a price.
Race 8. (16:00) Mornington Cup 2400m
4 American Wolf (Bet Now:Β $35.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. He hasn’t raced since his Adelaide Cup triumph, finishing best in a driving go to score. He’ll be strong at the end and Jett Stanley is FLYING in the saddle at the moment.
12 Sea What I See (Bet Now:Β $6.00) has been knocking on the door this preparation and if she can get an okay run from the wide barrier she should be right in the finish once again. Ready to win.
5 Immediacy (Bet Now:Β $13.00) ran really well in the Easter Cup last time out and this race looks easier on paper. He will need some luck from the barrier however he is good enough to win a race like this if everything falls in his favour. Good each way chance.
Race 9. (16:35) Hareeba Stakes 1200m
I’m very keen 12 La Fracas (Bet Now:Β $4.40). The more I see the Star Kingdom replay from three weeks ago, I thought he was the run of the day by an absolute mile. Wide and last, coming widest on the turn, his finale in defeat was very good. If he can settle closer, hard fit, gee I think he’ll take beating.
8 Pop Award (Bet Now:Β $11.00) steps up to 1200m after a last start win over 1100m at Flemington down the straight. She handled the wet track and class came to the fore when it mattered. Her confidence is up, she can measure up against these.
15 She’s Got Pizzazz (Bet Now:Β $12.00) should appreciate getting to 1200m. Both runs back have come over 1100m, the latest at Flemington when a close up third to Pop Award. Hard fit, rising in trip, bending track, she appeals as a key winning chance.
Race 10. (17:10) Mercedes-Benz Mornington (Bm78) 1200m
10 Duchess Zou (Bet Now:Β $2.10) is one of the hardest to beat for Ciaron Maher. She ran second over this trip two weeks ago at Caulfield, sitting near the speed and was there to win but just found one better in Rue De Royale. Returned well and takes beating here.
4 Stoli Boli (Bet Now:Β $4.60) scraped in to win fresh at Flemington three weeks ago but the win had merit given he was first up and on testing ground, was there to be beaten but he found to fend them off. Good upside to come, he appeals.
7 Fission (Bet Now:Β $35.00) is three weeks between runs since a far from disgraced effort down the Flemington straight behind Stoli Boli when off speed and worked home well enough in defeat. If within range, he has the finale to be dangerous.
