Race 1. (15:40) Sportsbet Racing Form Mdn Plate 1800m
9 Foire De Trone (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top for me in the opener. Ciaron Maher trained filly that debuted over 1500m at Yarra Valley. She got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never a threat, she did make up ground and was pretty good in defeat I thought behind Sound It Out, who I am keen on in the last, so I am trusting that form, and fitter, up to 1800m, she’s hard to beat.
4 Reach The Peak (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been pretty strong in two career outings and commands respect. Did more than enough on debut at Donald before going to the mile here when back and surged late, just missing out on the win when second to Chosen Legend. Hard fit and up to 1800m, he rates highly.
5 Regal Lover (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one to be entertained for exotics. He comes through the Chosen Legend race mentioned above. He got into a decent spot off the speed and tried hard but just lacked the change up speed to go with them late in the piece. Not sure he wins, but he can run top four.
Race 2. (16:15) Sportsbet Jockey Watch Mdn Plate 1200m
5 Time Lapse (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a beautifully bred gelding for Moody/Coleman that is on debut and I think he can debut with a win. He is by I Am Invincible out of former top mare In Her Time, so he’s bred to be good. He had a Winter prep without a run. Spelled and has come back, looking sharp in a trial win at Traralgon. Happy to be in his corner.
7 Flat Chat (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done little wrong in two career outings and commands respect. She has finished runner up each time, on debut at Moe before going to Geelong when just off the speed and tried hard but found one better in Sea Poem. Maps ideally and gets C Williams aboard.
3 Indefinite (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Brazen Beau that resumes for Ciaron Maher. He didn’t do a bad job in the Winter, showing decent amount of talent without winning. Trialled well last Monday at Ballarat and despite the tricky gate, commands some level of respect.
Race 3. (16:50) Sportsbet Get On Extra (Bm70) 1000m
1 Whistlefield (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Tom Dabernig trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Sep 4 at Sandown when tardy away, did work in the run and tired to finish down the track behind Isthmus. Jump/run is her go, so if that eventuates here, she’s dangerous.
5 Fragile Love (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win for Matty Ellerton. She ran over this track/distance three weeks ago where she got into a decent spot off the speed before getting held up at times. She got clear and finished off strongly but had to settle for a second to Romantic Choice. She’ll get the stalking role and be strong late.
3 Excess (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a beautifully bred mare for Julius Sandhu that resumes. She hasn’t raced since May 15 at Sandown when down the track behind a mare who was flying at the time, Little Miss Kubi. She does seem to go well on the fresh side, she has trialled nicely leading in and strikes a winnable race.
Race 4. (17:25) Sportsbet Race Replays Hcp (C1) 1000m
2 Boom Boom Ray (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the way I am leaning. This gelding resumed over 1000m at Bendigo in a maiden where he gave them a start and a beating to win and win well. He had jumped out well leading in and despite a class/depth rise, I am confident he can measure up.
5 Panigale (Bet Now: $SP.00) will land on the bunny and take running down. He had jumped out like a rocket prior to resuming over 1000m at Morphettville Parks, leading throughout and credit to him, he found under pressure to fend them off and get the win. Good racing style and strikes a winnable race.
8 Marbilla (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the quick back up for Jason Warren after racing last Friday night at Cranbourne and I think you can make a case to say she wins with clear air. Instead, she got held up on occasions and was good late when eventually getting clear air. Ran well at this track/distance the start prior, I am not dismissing her.
Race 5. (18:00) Sportsbet More Places (Rs0mw) 1200m
8 Flying Ace (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the each way play for me. Robbie Laing trained gelding that has run over 955m at The Valley in both runs this time in, the latest run being just under two weeks ago when off speed and chasing, but kept on and was good late in the piece Octrain. Hard fit now, gets in well after the claim and should be strong late.
1 Deekay (Bet Now: $SP.00) brings the class edge and it’s going to carry him a long way. He ran over 1200m at The Valley last time out where he got back and wide in the run but finished off with purpose, closing to finish third to the in form Zou Sensation. Tricky draw, but I think can press forward and he gets in well after the claim.
3 Orion The Hunter (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Deep Field that resumes for Shane Nicholls. This guy was a find during the Winter, establishing himself as a pretty smart horse on the Synthetic. He is better suited over a touch further but has jumped out well leading in and maps to get a sweet trip.
Race 6. (18:30) Sportsbet Feed (Bm64) 1500m
11 Maisy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the way I am leaning. Team Hawkes trained mare that resumes, having not raced since July 4 when resuming at Sale on testing ground and she couldn’t pick her feet up in the conditions. Spelled soon after and has jumped out nicely for the return plus has a kind draw.
7 Inexorable (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hard to beat, clearly, but he is just becoming too costly from my perspective to have him on top. To be fair, he has been wide throughout his past couple of runs and while beaten, he has been game in defeat. Tricky draw once again but if the breaks go his way, he can win. Just can’t back him.
9 Capricorn Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) will land on speed and run an honest race, as was the case last start on testing ground at Geelong and tried hard but just found one better in Hot Chilli Mama. She does race best on the fresh side so the few weeks between runs is no issue and has a good racing style.
Race 7. (19:00) Sportsbet Fast Form Hcp (64) 1100m
2 Street Elite (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell, should be hard fit and strikes a winnable race. Can make a case to say he wins with clear air two weeks ago over 1200m here, getting off speed and badly held up at times before getting clear and drove hard late to just miss. Fast run 1100m, with clear air, he’ll take holding out.
11 Earth God (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Team Freedman, having not raced since Nov 10 on Ararat Cup Day when doing work in the run and tiring late behind Esecutore. Blinkers go back on and back a fair way in overall depth, he appeals.
5 Stolen Art (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a last start winner and has a kind map in his corner. Billy Egan rode with intent to sit on speed from the wide gate and the gelding was trucking. He clicked up and found when required to lift and get the job done. Maps to get a sweet run and finds a race where the depth isn’t deep.
Race 8. (19:30) Sportsbet Same Race Multi (Bm64) 1800m
Landed with 7 Kings Valley (Bet Now: $SP.00) after scratchings because the race just sets up perfect for him now. He ran over this track/distance last time out when on speed and fought really hard but just found one better in Howlin Rain. Maps to get the perfect run here and the depth isn’t deep after scratchings.
6 Friday At Five (Bet Now: $SP.00) will put herself on speed and will give cheek, which is what she did here two weeks ago and kept chipping away but just couldn’t quite see it through behind Kind Gesture. Good racing style and this isn’t an overly deep contest.
12 Beautiful Jewel (Bet Now: $SP.00) seems to be getting better as the distances increase so with that in mind, she commands respect. Good in defeat two back at Geelong over 1200m before going to 1500m at Bendigo where she got the beaut run in transit before angling clear and was dominant late. On the up, will press forward and is down in the weights.
