Ipswich will host their biggest raceday on Saturday where it is Ipswich Cup Day, with a couple of strong support blacktype events to ensure a great afternoon of racing. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (11:40) : Bundy Rum Handicap (75) 1350m:
Back Me: 8 Barnsley (Bet Now: $6.00) is a handy type for the Gary Duncan yard who bounced back to his best form with a dominant win last time out at the Sunny Coast, aided by a patient steer from D Browne who got the horse into the clear at the right time and he finished best. Now that he has found winning form, he can go on with it.
Big Danger: 7 Eljetem (Bet Now: $7.50) is a former Queenslander that returns home after having a somewhat successful stint in Victoria with Tony Noonan. This is short of his best, but he is a quality galloper, and I loved a recent trial of his at Deagon. Normally takes a run or two, but a definite market watch.
Long Shot: 14 Bettabed Bed (Bet Now: $8.00) is a former NSW galloper making his Queensland debut for the Louise White yard. He ran some really good races when trained by Fred Cowell, consistently performing well at the provincials and in town. Recent Sunny Coast trial was encouraging and he can sprint well fresh.
Race Two (12:10) : Ray White Ipswich Handicap (75) 1350m:
Back Me: 6 William Wallace (Bet Now: $3.70) is a talented gelding from NZ who got an Australian win on the board when racing over 1400m at the Sunny Coast a tick over two weeks back where he was given a lovely ride from Tegan Harrison and got the job done. Stable companion for Benzini but he is talented in his own right.
Big Danger: 4 Sunny Victory (Bet Now: $7.50) is a really consistent galloper that deserves his crack at this kind of race. Ran over 1200m here at the midweeks recently and I really liked the way he finished off his race, charging home from off the pace to get the win. Up to 1350m is no issue and he is a track specialist.
Long Shot: 1 Cornrow (Bet Now: $15.00) is three weeks between runs since racing at Eagle Farm where he, like most, struggled on the surface, but he stuck on well in defeat behind Burning Passion. He was impressive in winning his lone run at the track, he maps okay and the claim for Ruby Ride is a big tick.
Race Three (12:42) : XXXX Gold Ipswich Mile (Class 6) 1666m:
Back me: 2 Lord Coconuts (Bet Now: $6.50) has been given a near three week freshen up since racing over 1400m at the Gold Coast where he got back to near last in the run and finished off his race with real purpose behind Motion Granted. He has some very stats at Ipswich and his racing pattern does really suit this track.
Big Danger: 8 Call The Captain (Bet Now: $4.60) looks a key threat here. This Murwillumbah raider was first up in a 1400m Highway at Rosehill two weeks back where he sat on speed and fought on really well in defeat I thought when second to Zamex. Looks beautifully placed up to the mile and should get every chance from the gate.
Long Shot: 11 Beckoning Light (Bet Now: $10.00) is a handy mare for the Heathcoate yard who has been good in two runs back from a break. Resumed here and wasn’t far off Not A Happy Camper before going to the Sunshine Coast where she loomed but ran out of condition behind the nice type Moonlight Dancer. Third up now, so she should be close to peak fitness, and she is a winner at the track.
Race Four (13:20) : Sirromet Bundamba Handicap 1100m:
Back Me: 6 Revenire (Bet Now: $4.60) gets the nod here for me. Godolphin youngster that was strong in a debut win at Gosford before going to Rosehill two weeks back where he was game in defeat behind the nice Snowden horse Silence. That is the strongest form for this race and he gets the inside draw.
Big Danger: 3 Intialize (Bet Now: $3.40) rises a bit in depth but there was plenty to like about his last start win on his home track at the Sunny Coast where he absolutely trotted up after sitting outside the speed. The run prior in the Ken Russell was a beauty and off his last couple of efforts, he’s right in this.
Long Shot: 7 Wudang Blade (Bet Now: $21.00) will love the drop in grade after contesting the Oxlade four weeks back at Doomben where he sat up near the speed and fought on very strongly I thought when third to the above average Pardoe. Bolted up on debut here, maps well, and the break between runs should do him the world of good.
Race Five (13:57) : Schweppes TL Cooney Handicap 1100m:
Back Me: 10 Raja Ampat (Bet Now: $5.00) has always promised a fair bit for the Stuart Kendrick camp and he looks set to fulfill his potential this time in. Resumed a tick over two weeks back at the Sunny Coast where he was parked in a beaut spot off the pace before presenting wider and gee you had to like the way he attacked the line. He can go right on with it here.
Big Danger: 2 Sundance (Bet Now: $3.20) is the big watch here. Speed demon for the Toby Edmonds stable who has some outstanding form next to his name, much better than anything else engaged here. Resumes after a solid Spring/Summer prep, been given a good break and gee he has looked sharp in a couple of trials.
Long Shot: 16 Zilitor (Bet Now: $10.00) is a talented type for the Kelly Schweida yard who has put together a nice record in a short space of time. He ran at tehe Gold Coast three weeks back where she sat on speed and fought on quite well in defeat when second to Prue’s Angel. Ran well here first up, draws well here and should be at peak fitness.
Race Six (14:37) : Queensland Times Cup Winter Provincial Stayers Final (80) 2150m:
Back Me: 2 Allzin (Bet Now: $2.90) has done an outstanding job in recent times for the Graham Hoy camp at Wauchope. He has won three of his four outings this time in, the last three infact. The latest came over 2200m at the Sunny Coast where he lumped the big weight and gave his rivals a nice licking. Has run well over 2200m here previously but that was when he was a three year old. Much better horse this time around.
Big Danger: 8 I Feel Good (Bet Now: $12.00) is on the quick back up for the Symons/Laxon stable after bolting up over 2200m at the Sunny Coast on Sunday where he was cuddled up behind runners from Hellyer and once he gave the horse clear air, he shot right away and gave them a spanking. He can go right on with it here despite the fact he was eight lengths off Allzin in that race he won.
Long Shot: 12 Real Sting (Bet Now: $21.00) also comes through the Allzin race at the Sunny Coast. He got off the pace in the run, trucking up quite well to the turn but just lacked the killer punch to match it with Allzin and a couple of others. He has run well at Ipswich previously and the pace in this race is generally hot, so he’ll get his chance.
Race Seven (15:17) : Channel 7 Ipswich Cup 2150m:
Back Me: 2 Jumbo Prince (Bet Now: $5.00) is a ripping campaigner for the Mick Nolan stable at Toowoomba who rarely runs a bad race. In saying that, he did run a shocker last time out but it was on the Eagle Farm surface behind Kaiser Franz. Ran second in this race last year and looks to be going better 12 months on.
Big Danger: 1 Benzini (Bet Now: $4.40) is on the seven day back up after racing in the Brisbane Cup last Saturday where he got back in the run in a race where those near the speed dominated, but he made up quite good ground late with the decent weight on his back. This is a significant drop in depth and he is the clear class factor.
Long Shot: 5 Feltre (Bet Now: $21.00) could be the improver here at odds. He comes through the race won by Kaiser Franz at Eagle Farm where he was another one that just really struggled on the surface. His efforts prior were okay and he gets to an ideal trip and back on top of the ground. Major threat if he brought his best.
Race Eight (15:57) : City Of Ipswich Eye Liner Stakes 1350m:
Back Me: 9 Casual Choice (Bet Now: $19.00) is on the seven day back up for Tony Gollan after racing over 1200m at Doomben last Saturday where he got a mile back in the run out of his ground but got clear running and finished off his race with real purpose to run a close up fourth to Miss Gunpowder. That was his first run in five weeks, so he should come on from that and is one of the hardest to beat.
Big Danger: 15 Tailevent (Bet Now: $34.00) is somewhat of a track specialist for Bruce Hill and having experience at this quirky track is a definite advantage for him. He ran over 1200m here a tick over two weeks back where he sat on speed with the big weight and fought hard but was gunned down late by Sunny Victory. Gets really good weight relief, and overall, this isn’t a strong race.
Long Shot: 17 Sharpe Hussler (Bet Now: $34.00) is a knockout chance at odds for me here. He hasn’t raced for five weeks since racing over 1350m at Doomben where he got back and wide but closed off well late in the piece behind Maternal, who has raced without much luck since. This horse does have a fab record at Ispwich and he has a booming finish on him.
Race Nine (16:33) : Sky Racing Gai Waterhouse Classic 1350m:
Back Me: 8 Queen Of Wands (Bet Now: $26.00) had been a real enigma when trained by Clarry Conners before being transferred to the Guy camp at the Gold Coast where she trialled very well there and resuming at the track last Wednesday when overcoming difficulties to record a strong first up win. She is a Stakes class mare when right, and the signs are there that she is somewhere near her best form.
Big Danger: 4 Banda Spice (Bet Now: $11.00) looked a bit outclassed on paper last time out in the Coughlan but aided by a rails hugging ride by Jimmy Orman, the mare ran a beauty when fourth to the high quality mare Bonny O’Reilly. That form reads very well for this and being third up, she should just about be at peak fitness.
Long Shot: 17 Slumber Party (Bet Now: $8.50) is the Waterhouse/Bott runner in the Gai Waterhouse, so no doubt she will be just about wound up to run to her best. She attempted to lead all the way in the Coughlan at Doomben a fortnight back and she was gallant in defeat behind Bonny O’Reilly. Looks to map well here and up to 1350m is a big tick.
