17/3/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sandown

I’ll give 9 Entitled Princess (Bet Now: $8.00) a chance here for the Goodwin camp. Debuted at Wodonga and was solid late when third to Palace Whisper before racing over this trip on the Hillside course and gee she was stiff behind Bellinger. No luck in the straight and should have been right in the finish I thought. Better luck this time around and she can take out what looks an even maiden.

2 Extrapolate (Bet Now: $4.20) is the one with upside. Team Corstens trained gelding that resumed over 1400m at Ballarat. Market didn’t want a bar of him late but thought he stuck to the task pretty well in defeat behind Choisir Lane. Fitter and up in trip, he looks a serious winning threat.

5 Helmiton (Bet Now: $4.80) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but he’ll put himself on speed and give himself every chance. That was the case when resuming over 1200m at Ballarat and he fought on pretty well, just running out of condition late in the piece. He’ll give a sight on speed…last bit may test.

6 Nightfire (Bet Now: $6.00) is heading in the right direction for Grahame Begg and confident he can measure up to this lot. Resumed over 1000m at Pakenham when putting himself on speed and he was strong late when asked for the effort, going on to win comfortably. Form out of that maiden has been strong and you’d like to think there is improvement to come.

5 Litchfield County (Bet Now: $2.60) is a Price/Kent trained colt that comes to town off the back of a maiden win at Werribee. Probably wasn’t the strongest field he beat up, but he was dominant and showed good change up speed when asked for the effort by Walker, who remains on. Keen to see how he goes.

7 Toogoodfortoorak (Bet Now: $23.00) lacks the class of some of these, but will put himself near the speed and try hard. Led and was grabbed late two back at Moe before going to Colac where he showed good ticker. He was there to be beaten but found under pressure and kicked back to win. He can sneak a first four spot.

Pretty keen on 8 Imperial Dawn (Bet Now: $11.00) running well fresh. She does have a decent engine under the hood that resumes for the Cameron team and has been given a really good grounding for her return, with her latest jumpout being a win over 1100m at Werribee. Think she only runs well against this lot.

6 Dubai Star (Bet Now: $4.40) commands some level of respect. WaterBott trained mare that resumed over 1200m at Canterbury under the lights when near the speed and battled away pretty well in defeat when third to Hinchbeast. 0/3 second up doesn’t read great, but those three runs were in far stronger races than this.

4 Soaring Eagle (Bet Now: $7.00) can bounce back here. This mare broke a long run of outs when winning two back at Pakenham. Raced there again last time out when wide and doing a power of work. Did a really good job to fight on like she did. If that hasn’t busted her, she’s a definite winning chance.

This is a tough race to sort out with confidence. The unknown is clearly 7 Killourney (Bet Now: $16.00), who makes his Australian debut for the Paul Preusker camp. He had a prep in the Spring with two jumpouts but didn’t race. Is first up with no jumpouts, but stable is going at 12% with first up runners from their last 100 starts compared to 9% for the career, so if he’s ready to go, he finds a winnable race.

2 Legionnaire (Bet Now: $6.00) doesn’t have the best of overall records, but he comes through strong enough form lines to give this a shake second up. Resumed down the straight at Flemington where he walked them in front and was just outsprinted behind Subedar. Better suited here at 1400m and stable is flying at the moment.

Craig Williams does ride 3 Sonaree (Bet Now: $9.00) well and will try hard from near the front. That was the case last time out and tired late behind a very much in form and above average Fighting Harada. Good third up record and if he can lead, get control, he could prove hard to catch at odds.

The draw makes it somewhat tricky for 3 Horrifying (Bet Now: $8.50) but he does have the runs on the board despite being a maiden. He contested some strong races in the Spring, including a game third in the Carbine Club on Derby Day. Given a good hitout in a Werribee jumpout so 1400m fresh should be fine.

It’s rare to see Grahame Begg produce a runner on the seven day back up so with that in mind, giving respect to 8 Seguso (Bet Now: $5.00). Was keen on his chances when he ran here last Wednesday. Just got left a bit flat footed when the sprint went on but was good late when a close up third. Hard fit now, up to 1400m, likeable for sure.

2 Duke Caboom (Bet Now: $6.00) looks a progressive three year old for Archie Alexander that comes to town with a few weeks between runs. Resumed over 1300m at Bendigo against the older horses and he was dominant I thought under a lovely ride from Tatum Bull. Form out of that race has been good and should get run of the race from the draw.

Another tricky race to sort out with confidence. I keep coming back to 7 South Parade (Bet Now: $6.50), especially with the 3kg claim for Matty Cartwright. He was a few weeks between runs when racing over 1100m at Bendigo where he was near the speed throughout and what I liked is that he attacked the line when asked instead of turning it up. Has Cherry Tortoni form over 1400m when he was a 2YO, which does read well for this.

4 Facemask (Bet Now: $9.00) is a handy four year old for Peter Moody that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since November 6 at Cranbourne when a close up third to Muleta over the mile when back in the run and working home nicely. Thought the recent Pakenham jumpout was okay without being great but lands in a plum spot from the draw.

For exotics, I can entertain 5 Pay Your Dues (Bet Now: $34.00). He lumped 62kg at Bendigo last time out and worked home okay without threatening behind South Parade. Actually meets that horse 3kg worse off here, so weights wise, can’t turn the tables, but draws well and gets a significant jockey upgrade.

A safe option here looks to be 4 Prism (Bet Now: $6.00) for the Hayes/Dabernig team. This mare is just so honest and rarely runs a bad race. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago when on speed and fighting on strongly when second to the very progressive galloper Eagles Crag. Lands in a great spot from the draw and will be around the mark as per.

1 Excelman (Bet Now: $3.80) has the weight but does have a touch of class on his side to give this a shake. Resumed over 1500m at Cranbourne with 62kg as well and finished off with real purpose, just missing out on the win in a tight three way go. Olly jumps on now and despite an ordinary record with Laming runners, has to be respected.

12 Sandsation (Bet Now: $7.00) isn’t really a horse you could back to win with confidence, but she’s similar to Prism. Puts herself on speed, honest and tries hard. That was the case at Ballarat last start but was clearly no match for Dominus. Down in the weights after the claim, she’s a winning threat for sure.

3 Sign Seal Deliver (Bet Now: $2.30) isn’t the most reliable horse going around but one thing he does do well is stay so the 2100m second up looks ideal. Resumed over 1800m here when on speed and kept chipping away behind Rebel Racer. He’s one paced, so think if he is to win, has to be on speed and rolling.

7 Magnossiva (Bet Now: $4.60) is a query at the trip but is racing so honestly at the moment for the Griffiths/De Kock team. Three weeks between runs since racing in the Rebel Racer mentioned above. Was on speed throughout and tried hard in a close finish, finishing third. He’ll be thereabouts once again.

17 The Midnight Shift (Bet Now: $23.00) is an interesting runner. Former Kiwi for Clayton Douglas that made his Australian debut at Kilmore over 2000m. Heavily backed to win and was solid enough in defeat when second to He’s The Reel Deel, who was ordinary last Wednesday, so the form is suspect, but upside and progressive.

NEXT BEST: Race One Number 9 Entitled Princess

LONG SHOT: Race Three Number 8 Imperial Dawn
