Race 1. (12:20) Tab We're On 1000m
1 Big Sky (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a well bred colt for Price/Kent that is on debut. He won a jumpout last week at Cranbourne, seemingly going about his business nicely. This race in the past has thrown up a nice horse…is he the nice horse? Time will tell, but I do think he’s got talent.
2 Boridi (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be a well educated juvenile on debut for Moody/Coleman. He had a Spring prep without a run. Spelled, has come back, and has looked strong in a couple of jumpouts for the debut, so I say watch betting. I think he runs well.
8 Roar Talent (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a daughter of Tiger Of Malay that debuts. She has had two jumpouts under the belt for start one and for the most part hasn’t looked too bad. Not sure she can win, but I think first four is within reach.
Race 2. (12:50) Victorian Bushfire Appeal Plate 2520m
7 Leonchroi (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and he can go on with it. That win came two weeks ago at Geelong. He was bolting in the run. Just a matter of getting clear air and once that eventuated, away he went and he won well. 2500m looks ideal, big track, strong late, hard to beat.
8 Hot Too Go (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran third to Leonchroi at Geelong. He sat on speed and looked to be trucking before taking the front. But, as has been the story of his life, he just didn’t have any real change up speed when third. Suited over 2500m at Flemington, good racing style, he’s around the mark again I am sure.
2 Eagle Angel (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one for multiples. He ran fourth to Leonchroi at Geelong two weeks back. He got into a decent spot in transit just off speed and did try hard but just couldn’t quite get there when fourth. Can be ridden more positively and I don’t think this is an overly deep contest.
Race 3. (13:23) Australian Guineas Day, 28 February 2000m
4 The Mean Fiddler (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a key chance for Team Payne. Dominant all the way winner at Traralgon on debut before going to Sandown on Boxing Day when off speed and kept chasing in a good effort when second to Flying Done, who won last week at Flemington to frank the form. 2000m suits, he is hard to beat.
1 Wrigley Field (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 2000m for Team McEvoy after racing over the mile at Sandown on Boxing Day. He got off speed and in a race not really run to suit, he kept chasing and was solid enough in defeat behind Flying Done. Like him up in trip, I say he takes beating.
2 Black Frost (Bet Now: $SP.00) is progressive and heading in the right direction for Craig Weeding. He has won two on the bounce, the latest being over the mile at Corowa when giving them a start and a beating in an impressive effort. 2000m should be fine, I think he can measure up.
Race 4. (13:58) Black Caviar Lightning Race Day,14 February 1800m
14 Yes I Know (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Team Freedman. He tried his guts out here on New Years Eve but just found one better in Fiorenot. He is getting towards peak fitness, he has that hard run under the belt, he appeals.
2 Fiorenot (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands respect for Tom Dabernig after a win on New Years Eve at this track/distance, tracking up with purpose out wide before being presented clear air and finished best to win and win well. His confidence is up, he can go on with it.
7 Russian Meteor (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps back up in trip after coming back to 1400m on Boxing Day at Sandown. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never threatening, he kept chasing and was pretty good late. First four threat.
Race 5. (14:33) Vrc Super Saturday, 7 March 1100m
6 Celerity (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a key threat after her spank job win here on New Years Eve, sitting near the speed before being clicked up and away she went to win and win well. She had been bursting to win and now that she has, she is to be regarded as top seed IMO.
5 Vain Champagne (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 1100m after racing over 1000m here on New Years Eve, driving hard late from off speed but just missed in a blanket finish when third to Cavalry Girl. Like her up to 1100m and is dangerous if within range.
2 Out Of Square (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes back to 1100m after racing over 1200m in the Black Pearl at Geelong where he had a suck run on the fence and didn’t get involved in a plain effort. Back to 1100m, first up win was dominant, she can bounce back.
Race 6. (15:08) Vobis Gold Reef 1600m
5 Somewhere (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in the mix for Archie Alexander after a win on New Years Eve over this track/distance. He landed on speed and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found under pressure and was strong to the line. Good test here but think he can measure up and run well.
2 Harry’s Yacht (Bet Now: $SP.00) was starting to become costly for punters but that changed two weeks ago at Geelong, knuckling down with purpose late to finish best. He’ll be strong at the end and his confidence is right up now.
1 Jimmy The Bear (Bet Now: $SP.00) is getting towards peak fitness. He ran over 1400m here in the Kensington Stakes on New Years Eve where he just found them a bit sharp and was never really a factor. Hard fit, back miles in depth, class is going to carry him a long way.
Race 7. (15:43) Thank You Emergency Services 1200m
9 Moby Dick (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came behind Sweethearted at Geelong a fortnight back. He got out of his ground nearer the inside and while he was never a winning threat, he kept chasing and was pretty good in defeat I thought. Better for the run, he can take this out with his best.
10 Sweethearted (Bet Now: $SP.00) was knocking on the door to win and that win did eventually arrive two weeks ago at Geelong, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive effort. He has always shown talent this horse but now off a win, he can certainly go on with it.
6 Dirty Grin (Bet Now: $SP.00) was a narrow but impressive winner two back at Geelong before going to Pakenham where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he did close off pretty well in defeat behind Recon. If he can settle closer, be within range, he’s dangerous.
Race 8. (16:18) Tab Australian Cup Race Day, 28 March 2000m
10 Jenni’s Meadow (Bet Now: $SP.00) should take a power of beating for Mark Walker. She ran third to Saint George three weeks ago at Cranbourne. She got back to near last in the run and despite never being a threat, I liked the way she closed off. She’s knocking on the door and keen on her chances each way against these.
9 Fortune (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since attempting to lead throughout over this trip at Cranbourne. He gave a decent sight from the front but had no answers late for the finale of Saint George. He’s found positive form, he can go on with it.
4 Bold Soul (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran fourth to Saint George three weeks back at Cranbourne. He got back off speed and while he was never really threatening, he kept chasing and was pretty good late when fourth. I reckon he’s heading to Tassie again and this should top him off.
Race 9. (16:58) Thank You Volunteers Trophy 1400m
1 Ndola (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands respect for Team Hayes after racing at Geelong a fortnight back. He got off speed, presented and was hailed as the winner, only to be nabbed late by Harry’s Yacht. Good track/distance record, he commands respect.
14 Botanical Boy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Team Hayes and commands respect. He has won two on the bounce, the latest being a fortnight back at Geelong when giving them a start and a beating to win and win well. Good test here but think he can measure up.
2 Saganiti (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Price/Kent trained former French galloper that is having his second Australian prep. Didn’t do a bad job in his first prep, has jumped out well, I’d watch the market and see what it does.
Race 10. (17:38) Thank You Firefighters Plate 1400m
5 Falset Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) should love the rise to the mile after racing two weeks back at Cranbourne over 1400m. He got back in the run and was held up at times but loved the way he closed off behind Davida. He’ll love getting to Flemington and wind up hard.
1 Buccleuch (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Payne trained three year old that resumes. He is first up after a strong prep as a juvenile where he had the potential to be a Derby candidate but it didn’t work out. He returns here and with extensive jumpout work under the belt, watch betting.
9 Eden Rose (Bet Now: $SP.00) has shown city class talent before but had to go to Burrumbeet to break the maiden tag, which she did on New Years Day and gave them an absolute spanking in the process. Confidence is up, she can go on with it and run well here.
