Nine races will be run and won at Eagle Farm on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out 2.5 metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (11:28) Janette Margaret Reed Mem (72) 2112m
5 Twilighter (Bet Now: $3.60) should love the extra ground here for Desleigh Forster. Comes through the Prometheus race from two weeks ago here over the mile where she got back in the run and made up ground very late in the piece, beaten around three lengths. The extra ground is a big tick for her and can sit closer in the run.
1 Dashing Special (Bet Now: $3.20) is hard fit and racing well for Barry Baldwin that is on the seven day back up after racing at Doomben last Saturday where he didn’t quite get the rub of the green and should have finished a bit closer behind Blacklog. Brad Stewart takes over and he’ll take no BS aboard this guy. Hard to beat.
2 Travistee (Bet Now: $8.00) is another that comes through the Blacklog race from last Saturday at Doomben. This mare got into a reasonable spot just off the speed and tried hard, but had her chance when fifth. Record at Eagle Farm isn’t too flash but she’s a mare who prefers dry ground, and that’s what she should get that here.
Race 2. (12:03) Tab Long May We Play Hcp 1200m
1 Kisukano (Bet Now: $1.95) deserves another chance. Outstanding first up win at the Sunny Coast before going to Doomben three weeks ago and on face value, disappointing, but just don’t think she had the ping to let down on the wet track like she let down first up. If that Kisukano turns up here, should be $1.50 and be winning.
2 Mishani Miss (Bet Now: $2.80) is a Les Ross trained filly that has some good form around her. Good late fresh behind Kisukano before going to the 1000m here where she was ridden more positively and the result was a dominant win and beating up hype horse Bleu Zebra. Off that win, 1200m will be fine and is now back to her own sex.
3 Sizzlepel (Bet Now: $11.00) is a daughter of Sizzling for Team Guy that resumes. Showed good promise in her first prep, winning two of three, and albeit the overall form around her doesn’t read great, she has the wins on the board and did it from the front each time. Nice trial on Monday at the Gold Coast, so keen to see how she goes.
Race 3. (12:38) Welcome Back To Track (rs0mw) 1400m
Chris Waller has been patient with 6 Super Contender (Bet Now: $1.90), with the gelding racing three times at the Gold Coast and getting better with each outing. His win two weeks ago was outstanding. Wide no cover for the trip yet ambled to the front, put them away and won by a space with plenty in hand. Didn’t exactly smash the clock, but he’s got plenty of progression/upside.
5 Love Struck (Bet Now: $12.00) is a son of Love Conquers All for Scott Morrisey that comes through the Love Squirrels race from a few weeks back at Doomben. He was back in the run and thought he worked home strongly to run third to the mare. He’s a two time second up winner and off that resumption, he could easily become a three time second up winner.
3 Alderman (Bet Now: $11.00) should be suited up to 1400m for the Lindsay Gough team. Opening two runs for the prep have come at 1200m, the latest coming here two weeks ago when doing work from the wide gate and tiring in the straight when down the track behind Socialising. Getting hard fit now and up to 1400m, can bounce back.
Race 4. (13:13) Quincy (rs0mw) 1400m
Buttering up with 4 Bubbles Ball (Bet Now: $9.00), a Kris Lees trained mare that had trialled up really well prior to resuming over 1200m here two weeks ago where she didn’t get the clearest of paths in the straight. She wouldn’t have beaten Socialising but should have finished that little bit closer. Good second up record and has a touch of quality.
1 Tycoon Street (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Kris Lees trained mare that can be hot and cold but her best is certainly good enough to measure up here. Had a freshen up prior to racing at the Gold Coast two weeks back where she was back near last in the run before sprouting wings late to get up and win in the last stride. Off that, she’ll love the Eagle Farm 1400m set up.
9 All Shiraz (Bet Now: $5.50) has been up a while for Rex Lipp but this mare is holding her form. Comes through the Socialising race from two weeks ago here where she got back in the run and was never really a winning threat but liked the way she found the line late to run fourth. Think 1400m will be fine and finds a winnable race.
Race 5. (13:52) The Village Kitchen Ascot (c6) 1800m
I hope there is a more positive ride aboard 1 Mushaireb (Bet Now: $2.70). His best efforts since coming to Australia have been when he races on speed and rolls. He is fourth up now, so he should be close to peak fitness. He ran over the mile here two weeks ago when just off the speed and found the line pretty well behind Prometheus. If they ride him aggressively, he’ll be hard to beat I suggest.
2 Mangione (Bet Now: $3.70) is suited up to 1800m. His past couple of runs have come over the mile, the latest coming here a fortnight ago where he worked home strongly but couldn’t quite get there when fifth to the in form Prometheus. He’s looking for that little bit further, so 1800m I do like and should prove hard to beat.
3 Glen Ord (Bet Now: $4.00) is eight years of age for Dianne Murphy but the old boy is racing very well and knocking on the door to win one. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago where he got back in the run and chased strongly but Dissolution had established a winning break and was too good. If he produces that effort here, he’ll go close I reckon.
Race 6. (14:32) Cascade Hcp 1200m
7 Super Effort (Bet Now: $2.50) is a Chris Waller trained youngster who should measure up here and run well. Trialled up nicely prior to debuting over 1200m at the Sunny Coast when tucked in behind the speed before angling into clear air, taking the front 200m out and holding a safe margin to the line. Looks a nice type and stable are flying the past couple of weeks in Queensland.
4 Clairvue Star (Bet Now: $8.50) looks really well suited up to 1200m for Chris Waller. This well bred son of Sebring resumed over 1000m here two weeks ago, a trip short of what he would prefer, and I liked the way he found the line late when third to impressive winner Mishani Miss, with the Les Ross youngsters flying at the moment. Fitter, up in trip, likeable.
If this track gets a drop of rain, 2 Mishani Fraudster (Bet Now: $14.00) comes right into play. Not really sure why it’s the case, but Les Ross and his runners…they just seem to love wet ground, and this guy is a classic example. He spanked them three weeks ago at Doomben and was heavily backed. If this track is firm, a place chance. But if it’s genuinely wet, the one to beat.
Race 7. (15:12) Tab Long May We Play Hcp 1200m
Banking on 2 Fiery Heights (Bet Now: $4.40) dominating from the front. That’s what he did at Doomben last time out, getting the front, controlling things and dashing clear in the straight to win well. Not the strongest open handicap this race, and now he has found form, I think he can hold it and hopefully leads throughout again.
3 Impasse (Bet Now: $4.20) is a son of Sepoy that resumes for Matty Dunn. This gelding hasn’t raced since Feb 29 when contesting the Tatts Members Cup at Doomben where he ran a strong third to Silvera but 1600m probably saw him out. Been given a good break and has prepared for his return with a couple of trials. Watch the market.
I think 6 Catesby (Bet Now: $6.50) can run a race here at odds. Had his first run for Desleigh Forster over 1000m at Eagle Farm when near what was not the strongest tempo you’d see for a 1000m race. Rightfully kicked on strongly, only to be nabbed late by Mittere. Harder here, but should improve for the run and is a knockout chance.
Race 8. (15:52) Kirin Hcp 1600m
Been a little while since 5 Right Or Wrong (Bet Now: $5.00) has raced at 1600m but the way he’s going at the moment, I think he eats it up. Ran over 1400m here two weeks ago and worked home strongly late when second to Skate To Paris, who was impressive. Racing as the 1600m will be ideal and is one of the hardest to beat here.
1 Carzoff (Bet Now: $5.00) is better suited over a bit further, but he does have a touch of class about him and will be strong late off a good speed. Hasn’t raced since the Grafton Cup when given a peach ride by Bossy and looked the winner when he hit the front, but was nabbed near the peg by Sixties Groove. Has a soft gate to do no work and finish off strong.
Fitter and a rise to 1600m are two big ticks for the Steve O’Dea trained gelding 3 Sabkhat (Bet Now: $13.00). Resumed in the Skate To Paris race from two weeks back here. Did work to find the front and just felt the pinch late when down the track. He’ll come on from that and if he can get a cheap furlong or two in front, he’ll be dangerous at odds.
Race 9. (16:28) Brc Membership Renewal Hcp (c6) 1000m
8 Pizonie (Bet Now: $5.00) is a son of Eurozone for Tony Gollan that resumes. This four year old hasn’t raced since March 28 when down the track at Eagle Farm behind One Stryke but by then, he was probably looking for the paddock. Been given a good spell and loved the way he went in a trial win at Doomben before a tick over trial on Tuesday behind Rothfire. Usually sprints well fresh so is hard to beat.
11 Howwonderfullifeis (Bet Now: $3.70) is three weeks between runs for Tony Gollan since racing over 1000m at Doomben on a bottomless track, something she hates, but she still ran a very credible race when second to stablemate Tullio, who was flying prior to the flop last Saturday. Prefer Howwonderfullifeis on dry ground and should get that here.
14 Redex (Bet Now: $34.00) is a huge query here. Michael Nolan trains this gelding, who hasn’t raced since March 2019 at Toowoomba when leading over 1000m and on testing ground, just found him out late when third to Crusher. No trials/jumpouts public, so guessing game re fitness levels, but he’s a short course specialist who has great early toe.
