Hard to ignore 4 Bryneich (Bet Now: $3.80 FAT ODDS)Β  and the way he’s going about it. Have to put a line through his run two back here behind Ponytales given he did far too much work in the run. Went back to the Ipswich midweeks and was afforded a lovely sit near the speed and the race was over on the turn. Now he has his confidence back up, I think he can run well in town once again.

Danger

1 Apoloboom (Bet Now: $5.50 FAT ODDS) hasn’t won in a little while but he’s been around the mark and seems to be racing as if the mile will suit. Ran over the 1350m here last Saturday where he got a mile out of his ground and never really looked likely but his finale was good behind the dominant winner Cadogan. Considerable drop in depth. Just needs to tick the 1600m box.

Long Shot

5 Slydini (Bet Now: 31.00 FAT ODDS) could be one to include in wider exotics. He resumed on his home track at the Gold Coast where he was probably a touch too close to the speed and didn’t finish it off when down the track behind Hotel Coste. Record suggests he might need this run before going on with the campaign, but straight to the mile second and his track/distance efforts haven’t been too bad.

Back Me

I can’t see much pressure in front so if this turns into a sit/sprint, 2 Estikhraaj (Bet Now: $5.50 FAT ODDS) should be winning. This bloke is absolutely flying for Chris Waller and has really transformed his career since coming to Queensland. Very good winner at this track/distance a fortnight ago, showing a lovely turn of foot before fending off Deconstructed. I think if the tempo is slow, his turn of foot will come to the fore.

Danger

12 Sofie’s Gold Class (Bet Now: $3.70 FAT ODDS) is on the seven day back up after winning over the mile here last Saturday and in the end, I thought the win was quite dominant under a lovely steer from Froggy. She’s got that pattern and attitude to suggest 2000m will be fine and while she’s in a real purple patch, now seems the right time to test the water with her at the trip.

Long Shot

8 Chillin With Dylan (Bet Now: $31.00 FAT ODDS) could be a sleeper at odds. Ben Ahrens trains this stayer, who ran over 1800m at the Gold Coast last time at the midweeks where he took an absolute eternity to wind up but his last 150m was quite good behind Lota Creek Gold, who won on Saturday to frank the form. 2000m+ is usually when you see the best of this horse.

Back Me

3 Bluebrook (Bet Now: $3.10 FAT ODDS) is a talented galloper for Kelly Schweida who should take some beating here. He resumed over 1200m here two weeks ago and was very good in defeat in an on pace dominated affair won by Hingus Rose. Big tick up to 1350m, good second up record and isn’t badly treated at the weights given his overall record.

Danger

6 Tokoriki Lad (Bet Now: $12.00 FAT ODDS) was specked at odds when resuming over 1200m here a fortnight back and you could make a case he should have won when beaten narrowly by stablemate Unlikely Story. Just got too far out of his ground, slightly held up, but he savaged the line late to just miss. If there is natural improvement from the resumption, up to 1350m, he certainly appeals.

Long Shot

1 All Eez (Bet Now: $17.00 FAT ODDS) is a former Tony McEvoy runner who has had a couple of preps now in Rocky for John Wigginton and he’s been quite good, winning a couple of races up there impressively. Ran over 1200m there last time and wasn’t beaten far when fourth to the well performed local Barachiel. Has won up to 1400m and isn’t badly in at the weights after the claim.

Race 4. (15:12) Phelan Ready Stakes 1110m

Back Me

2 Sun City (Bet Now: $2.15 FAT ODDS) on top. This looks to be Tony McEvoy’s number one seed for the Magic Millions and he’s specifically set a Queensland campaign, similar to Sunlight last year. This colt trialled up really well prior to debuting in the Maribyrnong Trial where he got off the pace and chased hard when second to Unite And Conquer. Trialled nicely here last week and has the form on the board.

Danger

Convinced there is a decent engine under the hood of 3 Krameric (Bet Now: $3.90 FAT ODDS). Forget his first up effort at Rosehill. He was wide throughout and never got into the race behind Athiri. He’s better than that and the Breeders Plate effort on debut was a beauty and that race is always one of the top form references for a juvenile. Sharp improver I’m sure.

Long Shot

4 Well Prepared (Bet Now: $12.00 FAT ODDS) is a son of Better Than Ready for Stuart Kendrick who debuted over 900m at the Gold Coast midweeks and I thought he was very impressive in winning. Did everything right, landed on the bunny to lead comfortably and he never really looked like getting beat. Much harder here, but has the win on the board and stable is having a really good run in recent times.

Race 5. (15:52) Calaway Gal Stakes 1110m

Back Me

7 Single Blonde (Bet Now: $2.70) is a Not A Single Doubt filly for the WaterBott team who was hard in the market when debuting on the Kensington track at Randwick and she was there to win halfway down the straight but I reckon condition just gave way late when third to Tenley. Trip away usually brings these youngsters on and the depth in that two year old race in Sydney looked and does look strong.

Danger

1 Courseshewill (Bet Now: $6.00) is a daughter of Unencumbered resuming for Liam Birchley. This girl kicked off her career with two wins from as many starts, winning the Pat O’Shea at Toowoomba before handling the bog over the 1050m here before being tipped out. Nice 1000m trial here last week to tune her up for this and she does have race experience on her side.

Long Shot

2 Gala Miss (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Kelly Schweida trained filly who has been kept on ice since scoring a somewhat lucky win on debut here with Frater Hill nearly coming off Button Pusher, losing all momentum and allowing Gala Miss to get the win. Trialled up well last week and stable have had a great run with their juveniles this season, so she’s one to watch.

Race 6. (16:32) Bribie Handicap 1050m

Back Me

1 Houtzen (Bet Now: $1.40) should put this lot away. Toby Edmonds trains this quality mare, who had no luck in all in both the Moir and Manikato. Moir run was unlucky but I think you can make a good case she should have just about won the Manikato, getting squeezed out of room late. Tick over trial last week was good and really, she’s just better than these.

Danger

5 Volkhoff (Bet Now: $21.00) should be suited back to 1050m. She ran in the Legacy three weeks ago and for mine the 1200m saw her out when down the track behind Stella Victoria, who ran well last Saturday. Not sure she’s got that much upside in the tank but does have hard race fitness under the belt and her efforts prior were very good.

Long Shot

Gee 3 Irish Constabulary (Bet Now: $16.00) is a beauty for the Symons/Laxon team. Ten years of age but rarely puts in a bad one but I don’t think many would have anticipated his win first up at this track/distance back on November 24, sprouting wins from near last off a brutal speed to get the win. Not sure he’ll get conditions to suit again, but hard to knock the way he goes about it.

Race 7. (17:15) Society New Years Eve Plate (Class 6) 1200m

Back Me

11 Stanley Park (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Duke Of Marmalade gelding for Toby Edmonds who is five weeks between runs since racing at the Sunny Coast where he looked home but was bloused late by Snitch, who won again a couple of weeks back to frank the form. Poorly drawn last week so taken out and saved for this, where I think he’s one of the hardest to beat.

Danger

10 Shogun Sun (Bet Now: $3.80) is a son of Written Tycoon for Kelly Schweida that resumes. He can somewhat mix his form but we know that at his best, he’s certainly more than capable of beating these. Last run came in the Sydney Spring when beaten narrowly by Kaonic, a Group l performer. Two trials leading in tells me there is intent to run well first up so watch the market.

Long Shot

5 Snitz (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Matty Dunn trained four year old that is first up. He had two runs in the Spring with the Kosciuszko in mind, and in big one, he really struggled on the bog track in a total forgive behind Belflyer. No trials since so fitness levels are unknown but he loves racing at Doomben and is a dynamite horse when produced on the fresh side.

Race 8. (17:50) Gold Edition Plate 1200m

Back Me

I reckon if the best version of 8 Granny Red Shoes (Bet Now: $15.00) turns up, she can more than give Zoustyle a race. I think she’s the one to bet on. Forget her Melbourne Spring prep. Couple of runs down there saw her have not much luck in a forgettable campaign. Back home now and her trial last week was outstanding to the eye. I think she can give this an almighty shake.

Danger

I’m not quite sold on 1 Zoustyle (Bet Now: $3.50 PROMO ODDS) yet. He’s 4/4 for Tony Gollan and has been brilliant each time he has stepped out, the latest being a fortnight back when leading and proving too good. New test for him here but he’s got the right racing pattern, 1200m box somewhat ticked last time and you never know how good they are until they’re beaten.

Long Shot

3 The Fire Trap (Bet Now: $23.00) looks on target for the Magic Millions. He resumed behind Zoustyle two weeks ago and was never really likely of picking up the hot pot and he didn’t really seem to get around Doomben that great but stuck on well. 1400m on a big track looks idea for him ie Magic Millions. Don’t think he can beat these but should run well.

Race 9. (18:26) Lough Neagh Stakes 1350m

Back Me

If 9 Victorem (Bet Now: $4.20) can sit closer in the run, I’m confident he can get the job done. His run last start in the George Moore was enormous. The leader/winner I’m A Rippa ran 32.9 for his final 600m, so for Victorem to win, he would have to run sub 32. That sort of speed is really only saved for the top class. He’s not that, but he’s very good. Just needs to sit closer in the run and from the gate, he definitely can. Wet track would be the only negative.

Danger

4 Niccanova (Bet Now: $3.40) is three weeks between runs for the Steve Tregea team since winning the Recognition at this track/distance where Jimmy Orman showed everyone he’s a decent sack size on him by taking a narrow gap on the rail and the horse responded, dashing away late, with Coldstone franking that form last week so it reads well and he does seem a 1350-1400 specialist.

Long Shot

11 No Annamossity (Bet Now: $19.00) is a Rob Heathcoate trained gelding who comes through the George Moore and his run should be forgiven. He was another that got back in a leader dominated race and had no chance of winning. Not sure he’s up to these in terms of class, but is very well suited at 1350m and does have a very tidy second up record.
