14/5/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Scone, Scone Cup day

A very strong eight race card has been assembled for Scone on Friday where it is Scone Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Good little maiden to kick off Cup Day. I’ll side with 2 Chaready (Bet Now: $3.90) for the Cameron Crockett camp. He ran over 1280m at Muswellbrook last time out. He was newer the inside, which wasn’t the spot to be, yet kept finding the line and just missed out on the win. He has a really strong grounding for what should be a solid 1300m assignment.

1 Anselmo (Bet Now: $2.80) has the runs on the board in terms of form. He resumed at Tamworth and got a fair way back in the run but worked home strongly late in the piece. That was 1000m. Rising to 1300m is the little query but should do no work in the run from the draw.

7 Hokahey (Bet Now: $6.50) should appreciate the rise in trip with the run under the belt. She debuted over 1200m at Kembla. Didn’t exactly quicken when asked but stayed on and was pretty good to the line and through it. She gets Tommy Berry to steer and will love the long straight of Scone.

I think the Victorian visitor 2 Flying Finch (Bet Now: $3.20) can get the job done. He resumed in a maiden at Bendigo over 1000m when near the speed. He looked large to win but I reckon his condition just gave way late behind a progressive type in Sugartown. The form around him does read quite well and I think he’s the one to beat.

10 Walkin’Talkin (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Gary Portillo trained juvenile that is on debut. Not sure what to make of the trial at Hawkesbury. Won it, looked to move well, time was solid enough…just not sure what he beat, but as is the case, juveniles in maidens against older horses is gold.

4 Fanz (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Sepoy colt for Rod Northam that is having start one. He comes here off the back of a trial win at Muswellbrook. Was wide throughout but moved quite well and won with something in hand to the eye. I think watch the market and see what it does with him.

17 Hallowed Son (Bet Now: $4.60) is a Hallowed Crown colt for Allan Denham that commands respect. Had a good sit behind the speed in his Newcastle trial and wasn’t knocked about, but liked the way he went when second to a talented juvenile in Sonnet Star. Think he’s a definite winning chance.

7 I Want One (Bet Now: $2.80) is a Kris Lees trained juvenile that is having start one. Not sure he beat a great deal in his Newcastle trial but he looked to move well on speed and when clicked up, he booted away. Stable loves to target the race and should get every chance from the draw.

12 Miss Statement (Bet Now: $8.00) is a stablemate of I Want One resuming. She made her debut over 900m at Newcastle back on Feb 27 when unwanted in betting late and ran accordingly, perhaps struggling with the race shape of the 900m scamper. Trial was okay and Blinkers on first up does signal intent, so watch the market.

I’m really keen on 14 Charvet (Bet Now: $7.00) running well here. Paul Messara trained made that is having start two for the stable. First run came at Muswellbrook where she had good specking late at odds and market got right. She charged late to just miss out on the win. She will take good improvement from that and on her home track, I think she only runs well.

9 Taketheshot (Bet Now: $4.80) is a handy animal for the Mark Mason camp. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1000m on Tamworth Cup Day. Got back in the run and worked home strongly without threatening the very impressive Ice In Vancouver. That form reads well for a race like this.

6 Murungal (Bet Now: $14.00) is a knockout chance at odds. Con Karatkasanis trained gelding that resumed at Port Macquarie. Got a long way back in the run and charged late, just missing out on the win when second to Eyewitness. If he can sit closer in the run, he will be dangerous at a big price.

4 Sneak Preview (Bet Now: $4.60) should love the rise to 1400m for Kody Nestor. He has had two runs back from a break, both at 1200m in the Wagga Town Plate Prelude and then the Town Plate himself when working home strongly from the back. Should appreciate the rise in distance and can sit closer in the run from the good draw.

2 Total Recall (Bet Now: $3.80) looks one of the hardest to beat for local trainer Paul Messara. Hard in the market when racing in the Tamworth Cup last time out. Had a good sit off the speed and tried his guts out. Just couldn’t quite get there when a close up fifth to High Court, beaten a half length. If he gets luck from the barrier, he’ll look the winner at some stage.

7 Wild Rocket (Bet Now: $9.00) looks really good value at double figures I feel given he does bring with him an outstanding effort in the Country Championships Final after getting a mile off them in the run. He keeps getting underestimated but continues to race so well. Hard to beat I’d suggest.

12 More Prophets (Bet Now: $4.20) is a smart mare for John Thompson that is just under three weeks between runs since racing at Randwick where she was quite good from off the speed, working to the line nicely, but clearly no match for Lost And Running, who looks a Group l horse. That form has to read well for this.

4 Rocha Clock (Bet Now: $6.00) races best when she is outside horses and has clear air so the wide gate is perfect for her. Lovey ride from King saw this mare win at Randwick just under three weeks ago in race where the depth looked strong and the form out of it has been solid. She’ll get good three/four wide cover and charge late.

14 Strawb (Bet Now: $23.00) is a quality mare for Nathan Doyle that needed to put a win on the board to confirm herself as city class and that she did when winning fresh at Warwick Farm. The ride from J Mac won the race. Was able to have her closer in the run, within range, and she was too good. Harder here, but she has the talent to measure up.

6 Bottega (Bet Now: $7.50) is just too good of a price to resist. I’m putting a line through his last start effort. McEvoy gave him a dig in the ribs to settle handy and with that, the horse got quite keen in the run and left himself with nothing for the straight, so forget he went around. Think with a more patient steer, off a good speed, he can finish over the top.

14 Pandano (Bet Now: $8.00) should be suited here. Paul Perry trained gelding that was a hot pot in the Provincial Championship Final. Thought J Mac gave him a peach and he was there to win. Just no match late for Cristal Breeze, who was given a 12/10 by Bowman. Fitter and up in trip, he appeals.

I’m very interested in 3 Order Again (Bet Now: $6.50) for Chris Waller. He did win impressively fresh last prep over 1550m on the Kenso and here he is, first up over the mile. Form around him doesn’t read too bad and we know that he has quality when right. Trials to get ready have been strong so watch the market.

3 Gravina (Bet Now: $5.00) looks a safe option. James Cummings trained colt that was quite good in defeat last time out at Canterbury. Did plenty of work to get on speed and just felt the pinch late. Should do no work from the good draw and with better luck in running, he can take this out.

10 Glowing Red (Bet Now: $17.00) is a half sister to star mare In Her Time so she will have always some level of boom on her. She won’t run up to the level of her older sibling but she has talent. Lovely ride saw her win impressively at Port Macquarie last time and was strong to the line. She’s big odds here and is a knockout chance.

I think 11 Members Only (Bet Now: $8.00) deserves another chance. Sharp maiden winner on Newmarket Day at Newcastle. He then went to Gosford when heavily backed late. Something went amiss because J Max eased him down at the top of the straight and he failed to finish. Tick over trial was a good piece of work and off the maiden win, he should be around the mark.
