A strong nine race card has been set down for Morphettville on Monday for Adelaide Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; True for the remainder.

Race 1. (13:00) Adel. Galvanising Industries 1200m
Tricky race for the three year olds to start the meeting. I do there is good upside to come with 9 Suricate (Bet Now: $4.50) and she gets J Kah so with that in mind, I’m with her. I was with her when she resumed at Caulfield on Australia Day and she just lost sight of the bunny I thought but was good late when balanced up. Recent jumpout was strong, she’ll be good late and in an in form camp.
1 Mac ‘N’ Cheese (Bet Now: $3.30) is a big query here. Team McEvoy filly that resumes. She was heading down the Thousand Guineas path in the Spring but didn’t measure up in two Melbourne runs and was spelled soon after. Can’t find a recent jumpout for her, but she brings the class if she’s ready to go.
3 Jaazeb (Bet Now: $8.50) had been bursting to win a race for some time, but kept finding one or two better. That all changed two weeks ago on the course proper here when a maiden winner over 1100m, knuckling down strongly to get the job done. She’s won a race…can she go on with it?
Race 2. (13:35) Cinderella Stakes 1050m
7 Imbible (Bet Now: $5.50) for me. Team McEvoy filly that is on debut and I was quite taken by her trial win. Did she beat much? I’m saying no, but gee I thought she moved sweetly and when asked to go, she did, and spanked them. There is good depth to this line up, but I think she’s above average.
1 See You In Heaven (Bet Now: $1.90) is a daughter of Divine Prophet for Team Jolly that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since her debut win down the straight at Flemington on Oaks Day, taking out the Ottawa. Sharp trial win to prepare for her return and she can use the inside gate to advantage.
Certainly giving respect to 4 Arabian Melody (Bet Now: $10.00). Maher/Eustace stable puts the polish on this filly, who I think wins on debut at Ballarat had she run straight but she wanted to lay in under pressure and IMO that cost her. Have to respect the stable and Johnny Allen sticks.
Race 3. (14:10) G.h. Mumm (bm72) 1600m
If you can trust 8 Tully’s Gold (Bet Now: $3.60) now, he’s the one to beat. Market wanted him at odds last Saturday at Murray Bridge and it was proven spot on. Sat on speed, was trucking under Opperman. Just a matter of pushing the button and once he did, away he went. J Kah on, now has winning form…hard to beat.
2 Yulong Justify (Bet Now: $2.80) is on the quick back up for Team McEvoy after racing last Saturday at Murray Bridge in the Magic Millions 3&4YO Classic where he was part of a serious bumping battle and I think it took the stuffing out of him late. Clear air this time around, he can bounce back.
9 Master Of Zerprise (Bet Now: $26.00) might want one more, but he does have ability when right. Resumed last Saturday at Murray Bridge when back in the run and never a factor behind One More Jack. That was 1400m and he is a 2000m+ horse, so might want one more, but has more upside than most.
Race 4. (14:45) Winning Edge (bm78) 1050m
6 Heyington Station (Bet Now: $4.20) looks a talented animal who is enjoying life under the care of Will Clarken. Peach steer from Ben Price saw him win here last time out, landing some good bets in the process. Bit more depth here, but he’s got upside to come and has a touch of class when right.
3 Okay To Pay (Bet Now: $3.20) has good early speed so the 1050m here looks a good set up, plus is drawn wide, so she can take her time coming across. Copped heat on speed over 955m at The Valley last time and just tired late behind Lady Solly. She’s short enough in the market but stable is going well.
5 Hidden Legend (Bet Now: $10.00) deserves another chance. Resumed several weeks ago on the Parks track where the late market move suggested it was a prep run and that’s how he he raced, though not helped by sitting wide and chasing. Gets Ben Melham steering, who is in form since returning, and his best is good enough.
Race 5. (15:20) C S Hayes Memorial Cup 1600m
5 Royal Mile (Bet Now: $3.40) on top. Quality four year old for Lee Creek that resumed over 1400m a few weeks ago on the Parks track and worked to the line very strongly from off the speed, getting squeezed out of clear air late when a close up third to Night Passage. Fitter and up to the mile, happy to be in his corner.
1 Secret Blaze (Bet Now: $8.50) looks much better suited here. Thrown in the deep end fresh in the CF Orr and failed to fire, understandably so behind Tofane given it was essentially a barrier trial. Back in SA, his trial was a good piece of work and is well placed I feel back at this level.
8 Ritratto (Bet Now: $9.00) can given cheek from the front. Ran last Saturday at Murray Bridge when leading and giving a good kick, but couldn’t quite finish it off when a close up third to One More Jack. J Kah gets the ride, has upside to come and he is a gun 1600m horse at this track so he’ll have admirers.
Race 6. (16:00) Matrice Stakes 1200m
A win here for 13 Manhattan Times (Bet Now: $4.00) and they can mark him down as a legitimate Goodwood contender. He hasn’t beaten much in two runs this time in, but it’s been the turn of foot he has produced that has been impressive, the way he has put the race to bed quickly. Good test here, but confident he measures up.
3 Second Slip (Bet Now: $4.80) is a talented animal for Will Clarken that resumes. He hasn’t raced since the Chester Manifold at Flemington when down the track behind Lighthouse, who is a high quality mare. Liked a recent trial from this guy and to my eye, in between races on Wednesday, he worked far better than Ironclad.
12 Point Blaze (Bet Now: $12.00) is a talented mare resuming for Shayne Cahill. Impressive win over 1200m two back before stepping up to 1400m on the Parks track where she surged hard late from off the speed and to the eye, looked like she had won, but the photo went the way of Spectacle. Not sure she’s good enough to win, but one for exotics.
Race 7. (16:45) Adelaide Cup 3200m
If this comes to survival of the fittest and strongest, then 6 Tigertiger (Bet Now: $4.60) is the pony to beat. Prep run two back before a game effort last Saturday at Flemington behind Crystal Pegasus, the sit/sprint set up not to his liking. He’ll eat up two miles here and is hard to beat.
5 Daqiansweet Junior (Bet Now: $3.90) has done little wrong this time in for the Stokes camp. I just think he was set too much of an ask in the Torney Cup at The Valley in a race shape that probably didn’t suit him. The 3200m here should ensure a more rolling tempo and he gets a chance to bounce back.
15 Busker’s Ballad (Bet Now: $35.00) is on the quick back up for Ryan Balfour after racing at Murray Bridge last Saturday. He had a suck run behind the speed and presented to beat Oath Of Omerta but the Hickmott horse was too strong in the run to the line, but liked the way this toughed it out and found the line. 3200m, I think, will be fine, and is a first four contender.
Race 8. (17:25) Morphettville Guineas 1600m
15 Ancient Girl (Bet Now: $1.95) finds a very winnable Stakes race here IMO. She spanked them at Sandown two before contesting The Vanity at Flemington when on speed and giving a good kick but was nabbed late by Barb Raider, who would be $1.50 against this lot, so that looks the right form and get J Kah.
4 Residue (Bet Now: $14.00) looks to be in for a good prep. Mick Huxtable trained three year old that resumed over 1200m two weeks ago and worked to the line strongly from off the speed when second to impressive winner Manhattan Times, who looks Stakes class, so the form reads well and up to 1600m, he’ll take beating.
7 Charm Slinga (Bet Now: $71.00) is a John Hyam trained three year old that looks to be heading towards the SA Derby. Resumed behind Manhattan Times two weeks back where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never really a threat, his finale was sound. Might want one more, but he has talent.
Race 9. (18:05) Grand Syndicates (bm68) 1200m
7 Sparkup (Bet Now: $3.30) is knocking on the door to win. Team Jolly trained gelding that ran behind Struck By a fortnight back. He had a suck run behind the speed and presented to win, but was clearly no match for the Doudle runner, who looks to be back with a bang. He’ll be hard to beat here.
12 Hills (Bet Now: $4.00) is a Will Clarken trained mare that should be around the mark. Market wanted her a fortnight back and she was there to threaten, but couldn’t quite finish it off well enough when down the track behind Larkham. Market keeps liking her so she must be doing something at home to keep piling in.
8 Call Me Curtis (Bet Now: $21.00) is a greybeard for Craig Curtis who is getting on in years but he’s a very consistent animal that is around the mark more often than not. Resumed two weeks ago on the course proper here and liked the way he finished his race off when fourth to Heyington Station. He’ll be around the mark again in a competitive race.
