14/12/2019 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Eagle Farm, The Gateway day

The Brisbane Summer Carnival has its first look at Eagle Farm this Saturday for an outstanding nine race card. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Would love to see a push for 1 Desert Digby (Bet Now: $13.00). He’s the best horse in the race that resumes for Desleigh Forster after a very good prep as a 3YO and early 4YO, with his last run coming over 1200m here when a narrow second to the above average Scallopini. Draws wide, but can press forward and potentially get a cart over via Dream Master/Vienna Power.

3 Dream Master (Bet Now: $5.50) is a son of Dream Ahead for the Edmonds camp that comes here off the back of a run a few weeks ago over the 1110m at Doomben when on speed and fighting on strongly but lacked the class of Constant Flight and couldn’t go with him but was game in defeat. Like him here and is a leading chance.

I like 13 Vienna Power (Bet Now: $5.50) back to 1000m for Tony Gollan. He ran over 1110m at Doomben two weeks ago when near the speed and gave a really good kick under Byrne when asked but couldn’t quite finish it off when a narrow third to Boomtown Lass. That form reads very well for this and back to 1000m, he’ll take some beating.

Up in trip looks a really good set up for the Rob Heathcoate trained three year old 10 Ziemba (Bet Now: $2.35), who has run over 1350m in both runs back from a break, the latest coming last Saturday against his own age when flat footed when the sprint went on but picked up late and was quite good behind Scout. Crying out for more ground, which he gets here, and has upside.

7 Senrima Tide (Bet Now: $21.00) is a big improver here I suspect for Matty Dunn. She contested a Highway at Kembla on Gong Day where she was back, wide with cover, but couldn’t really get involved in a race and on a day where those out wide had no chance, and that form has been franked since. Back in a more suitable race, third up, she can bounce back.

4 Naked (Bet Now: $23.00) is a son of Arlington for the Barry Lockwood stable that resumes, having not raced since Feb 23 over 2200m here when specked in betting and couldn’t quite finish it off behind Perfect Witness. Has been given a long break, comes here off one trial, but resuming at 1600m tells me enough work has been put in to run well fresh given previously he’s resumed anywhere between 1000m-1400m.

Such a noted jockey change for 3 Get Stuck In (Bet Now: $6.50) In so I’ll lean his way. Three weeks between runs for the Gollan stable since racing over the mile at Doomben when doing work to get on speed and tired late behind Alpine Dancer. No disrespect to Baylee Nothdurft, but the booking of Michael Rodd is a massive tick, and if he gets in from the gate, he’ll take some beating I suspect.

9 Tycoon Street (Bet Now: $10.00) has been up a while for Kris Lees but gee this mare is racing well. Looked the winner when Mallyon let her down two weeks ago at Doomben over the mile but Ipso Nem Felek got the dream split nearer the inside and got the win, just. This mare is knocking on the door to win again and she gets her chance here.

12 Dreamreacher (Bet Now: $3.80) is a son of Snitzel for Gillian Heinrich who is a very consistent animal that is rarely far away from the thick end of the prizemoney. Was three weeks between runs when racing over 1350m at Doomben a few weeks ago when getting an economical run nearer the inside and finished off hard late to just miss out on picking up All Important, and could make a case he should have won with clear air from the outset.

12 Jeweliana (Bet Now: $2.40) is a Steve O’Dea filly who was good late fresh at the Sunny Coast before going to the Mode Plate where Doomben probably didn’t suit her but liked the way she finished her race off behind Sugar Boom. She’s crying out for a big track at 1400m, which she gets here. Hopefully can sit closer in the run this time around.

8 Cuban Sizzle (Bet Now: $13.00) on top for me. Kris Lees trains this mare, who has been pretty good in two runs back from a break. Wide no cover but wasn’t beaten far fresh at Gosford behind Blazing Miss before going to the Gold Coast midweeks where she got back in the run but finished off pretty well behind Amorita. Like her at 1400m on the big track and finds a winnable race.

9 Dynamic Verse (Bet Now: $10.00) was scratched from a much easier race at the Gold Coast in preference for this so don’t mind that lead for this three year old, who ran over 1200m at Doomben in the Winning Rupert where he was outclassed but far from disgraced behind Le Palmier. Like him up to 1400m and can sit closer in the run if need be.

5 Zourkhan (Bet Now: $15.00) is going well I think for Chris Waller and is dangerous here. Ran over 2000m at Doomben two weeks ago when off the speed and while he didn’t quicken, he stuck on and was pretty good when beaten 2.45L by an in form Man To Match. Drop of rain will really help his claims and back to 1800m, he really appeals.

Back to 1800m is a little knock re 7 A Man To Match (Bet Now: $6.00) but Tony Gollan has him flying this prep. Loved the way he found the line two back at this trip at the Sunny Coast before stepping up to 2000m when back in the run and really looked no hope til the last few strides when surging hard late to win. Back in trip is the knock but racing at Eagle Farm is a big tick.

11 Blue Comet (Bet Now: $41.00) is a Noel Doyle trained four year old who has a pretty good overall record and I think can run well here. Was somewhat unwanted in betting when racing over 1800m at the Sunny Coast last time when ridden near the speed by Hellyer and the change of tactics worked as he took the lead, kicked strongly in the straight and clung on. I reckon at this level, he’s better suited with a sit, so if that eventuates here, he’ll be dangerous.

The heat/bad luck are the only factors beating 1 Alligator Blood (Bet Now: $1.65) here. Do I want to take the shorts? No, but he’s the one on form. For those that were on, quite remarkable watching the replay as to how he lost the Caulfield Guineas. He was the winner everywhere bar the last stride. Given a break and his Sunny Coast trial was outstanding. He’s the one to beat, clearly.

2 The Odyssey (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Kelly Schweida trained three year old who will give the fav a decent race I’m sure, especially with gate one to use and lead. Ran over this track/distance a month back and gave them a spanking in leading throughout and bouncing back to his brilliant best. Jimmy Orman back on, leads and will give a great sight.

Want to give 9 Karaja (Bet Now: $18.00) another chance. Was really keen on her when she resumed in the Mode Plate two weeks ago but they went hard early in front and I reckon given she was first up, that took the finale away from her, and she was ridden near that speed. Think ridden a touch more cold, she’ll be better off and can win this for sure.

1 Boomsara (Bet Now: $4.20) is an absolute beauty for Chris Munce who is really hard to beat here. Resumed in the George Moore two weeks ago when doing a stack of work from the wide gate and despite that hard early burn, she loomed to win but couldn’t quite finish it off, but stuck on very well in defeat to run a close up third. If that hasn’t busted her, she’ll take some running down.

3 Vega One (Bet Now: $5.50) looks hard to beat here. Tony Gollan trains this four year old, who comes through the Recognition from three weeks back when doing a bit of work from the wide gate but loomed large to beat Tambo’s Mate, but that horse was hard fit, in form and proved too good, just. Vega One is effective when ridden cold and with cover, as seen during the Winter Carnival.

Good test for the Mark Currie trained 6 Soxagon (Bet Now: $8.50). Was heavily backed when racing at Doomben two weeks ago but after a tardy beginning, that sealed his fate as a winning chance. Finished off strongly to run third but the start was very costly. Harder here, but he gets Dunn to steer from a good gate and should take some beating here with a better beginning.

Class to get 1 Tyzone (Bet Now: $9.00) home. He’s been an absolute beauty right throughout his career and is back home after a two run prep in Melbourne. Didn’t win, but ran well and was far from disgraced for the most part each time. Back home and has been kept up to the mark with a pretty good trial over 1000m at the Gold Coast. Has class and has the gate to put himself into the right spot.

5 Chapter And Verse (Bet Now: $4.40) can win again. Was tardy away in the George Moore two weeks ago and despite drawing a good gate, he was back near last on the turn, but he produced an outstanding finale from the back to get up and beat Outback Barbie. Remained at 1200m last time and still won. 1300m at Eagle Farm, hard fit now…it’ll take a good one to beat him.

Good little test for 12 Constant Flight (Bet Now: $8.00) but we’ll get a guide as to how good he is given he’s been beating them up in inferior races. Had a freshen up and ran over the 1110m at Doomben where he was given the A1 run in transit just off the speed and once Maloney asked for an effort, the race was all over. Up to 1300m, fitter…I think he’ll run well.

Throw at the stumps in the get out in the shape of 6 Best Guess (Bet Now: $12.00) for Chris Waller. Resumed without a trial two weeks ago at Rosehill and really liked the way he finished his race off in restricted room over 1100m at Rosehill behind Invictus Salute, who was excellent in defeat last Saturday. Noteworthy that race stacked up very well time/rating wise with the Starlight. From the gate, Fradd can lead/box seat and I think he’ll only run well.

There looks to be plenty of upside to come from 9 Boomtown Lass (Bet Now: $2.80) and I think she can win. Only had one soft trial leading into her resumption at Doomben two weeks ago but was able to get into a good spot from a wide gate and in the end, her class got her home. 1200m on the bigger track should suit her better and she’s got the fitness under the belt now.

11 Denarius (Bet Now: $14.00) is a veteran for Brian Wakefield. Despite his age, I think he’s flying this time in. Impressive winner two back at the Sunny Coast before going to the Boomtown Lass race from two weeks ago at Doomben and liked the way he found the line. Gets a good weight swing on that mare here, draws much better and is near $20. Crazy.
