14/12/2019 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Ascot, Towton Cup day

The Summer Carnival at Ascot continues this Saturday where it is G A Towton Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres for the entire circuit.

Have to stick with 6 Levitate (Bet Now: $2.15) for Simon Miller, who is putting together a very good record in a short space of time. Ran over 1000m here two weeks ago when back off a slow speed and crabbed a bit on the turn but balanced up and charged to the line to just miss, but would have won in another stride. Up to 1200m, Pike on, he’ll do me.

I like 4 Silkinize (Bet Now: $4.40) at 1200m against his own age. Started odds on over 1200m at Bunbury last start where Harvey put him into a dream spot just off the speed and despite the margin being narrow, he was pretty much always in control of the race. The positive is that he comes back to his own age. The knock is the time was pretty slow relative to the meeting.

1 Mia Dolce (Bet Now: $10.00) is an absolute beauty for the Jayce Buckley who steps up to 1200m. Ran over 1000m here a fortnight ago when on speed and looked to control things very well, kicking on strongly in the straight but was only pipped near the peg. Is a three time winner at 1200m, albeit in weaker races than this, so will be interesting to see how she goes.

7 Son Of Bacchus (Bet Now: $5.00) looks a good bet here for the Rhys Radford team. He ran over 1800m here two weeks ago where Staples gave him an absolute peach of a ride just off the speed, loomed to win and looked the winner for the most part, but Prince Turbo kicked on strongly and was too good for him, just. From the inside gate, he’s hard to beat.

Better luck and Pike back on can make sure 1 Royal Command (Bet Now: $3.40) bounces back. Comes through the Prince Turbo race from two weeks ago where Chris Graham had him wide no cover for the trip and that run saw him drop out and tire to finish down the track. The win start prior was very good and can win for sure with Pike back on.

4 Arctic Stream (Bet Now: $4.60) is a Ross Price trained gelding that is on the seven day back up after winning impressively over the mile here last Saturday, sitting last in the run before getting the back of Midnight Sky, finishing hard out wide and got up near the peg to beat that in form mare. Harder here, but up in trip is a big tick and has winning form.

4 Speeding Comet (Bet Now: $6.50) doesn’t win out of turn for Simon Miller but he’s usually thereabouts and he does find a very winnable race. Resumed over 1000m here three weeks ago when tucked in behind the speed, held up for a stride or two, before getting clear late and just missing out on the win when a close up third to Downforce. Fitter, he’s hard to beat.

3 Undisclosed (Bet Now: $7.00) has come back in super order for Colin Webster. Sharp first up winner before racing over 1100m here two weeks ago when back off the speed before Turner eased her wider on the turn and she finished off strongly, just missing out on the win when a narrow third to Guns Of Navarrone. Back to 1000m, hard fit, leading chance.

7 Plutocracy (Bet Now: $2.80) has to be respected here for Simon Miller. His overall record since coming to WA has been ordinary but gee it was a hard watch if you were on him in the Guns Of Navarrone race from two weeks ago, blocked for most of the straight and seemed to have plenty to offer. Pike on, better luck this time around and he can win.

Jumps straight up in trip, but am keen on 8 Rebel Knight (Bet Now: $6.00), who ran over 1100m here two weeks ago where Pike had him in a beaut spot just off the speed but when he wanted to poke his way through the field, the gaps just didn’t appear for him and it ended up being a horror watch for him. Like him up in trip…straight to 1500m? Time will tell.

3 Not To Be Mist (Bet Now: $1.40) is flying for Adam Durrant and should take some beating here. He was massive in winning the Platinum Series Final two weeks ago given he was back in the run and then Pike decided to take off three and four wide, surging to be on speed and despite that hard burn early, he kept finding under Pike and was too good, just. If that hasn’t busted him, he’s a leading chance.

1 Heart Starter (Bet Now: $14.00) is a big improver back in depth for the Chris Gangemi team. He comes through the Peters Stakes when leading and running along at a decent clip but couldn’t finish it off behind Mississippi Delta, who ran so well in the Kingston Town last Saturday, so that form just reads so well for this and is hard to beat off that.

6 Friar’s Fantasia (Bet Now: $4.80) looks really well suited up to the mile for the Pearce camp. This mare ran over 1400m last start in the Platinum Final won by Not To Be Mist and was one of several unlucky runners in behind. She got held up for a few strides when wanting to build momentum before Olly getting clear and finishing off strongly. Up to the mile, she’s a leading chance.

Punting hat off, 2 Inflation (Bet Now: $5.00) has been pretty good this time in. But if you put the punting hat on, he’s been a money muncher and is becoming hard to trust with confidence. He ran over the mile four weeks ago and looked to have every chance but was clearly no match for the brilliance of Sublime Image. Can win, but I couldn’t touch if he’s short in the market again.

9 Jimmy Rapid (Bet Now: $46.00) is an Adam Fairey trained gelding that resumes. This bloke is first up, having not raced since August 22 at Pinjarra over 1400m when back in the run and didn’t fire a shot at all under Pike in a disappointing effort. Given a good break, liked the way he moved late in a Lark Hill trial and Blinkers on first up, he is one to watch.

Very keen to see 12 Inspirational Girl (Bet Now: $3.10) resume for Team Williams. This daughter of Reliable Man is 2/2 in her career to date, both wins coming during the early part of the Winter and each run she was impressive. Been given a good break, and her two trials leading in have been pretty good to the eye, so keen to see how she goes.

5 Megazone (Bet Now: $10.00) should be suited up to 1400m for the Ashley Maley stable. Ran over 1200m here two weeks ago when back, wide with cover, and was never really a winning threat but liked the way he found the line late in the piece. Up in trip looks a big tick for him and with luck from the gate, he can win without surprising.

7 Black Shadow (Bet Now: $12.00) is a son of Trade Fair for the Jim Taylor team that was a drifter in betting when resuming over 1200m here on November 20 when just off the speed and looked to get a good run in transit, but couldn’t quite finish it off when fifth to Heart Of Coeur. Fitter and up to 1400m, I think he’s a big improver.

1 Taxagano (Bet Now: $4.80) is becoming very reliable and with staying races, going with a reliable horse is usually a safe play. Fred Kersley has him going super at the moment. Surged late to win the Ascot Gold Cup two back before contesting the Tatts Cup a fortnight ago when again hitting that flat spot but picked up and was really good late when second to Missile Launch. Gets a 1.5kg weight swing on that horse here and at 2200m, I prefer Taxagano.

2 Missile Launch (Bet Now: $6.50) had promised so much around 12-18 months ago but there was a period of time there where he was going poor. But since Vaughn Sigley has trained him like a stayer, he’s a horse that is in excellent form and was rewarded for that consistency with a win in the Tatts Cup under a lovely ride by Carbery. Harder here, but he’s flying.

Further the better for 6 Dark Musket (Bet Now: $13.00), who comes through the Tatts Cup as well. The slow tempo really didn’t suit him at all given he was back near last in the run but he picked up late and was good to the line and through it. I think he’s a two miler, and unfortunately the Perth Cup isn’t as two miles, but if they go quick in front, he’ll be the strongest at the end.

8 Flower Of War (Bet Now: $2.10) is a talented daughter of War Chant for the Simon Miller team that resumes. This mare hasn’t raced since July 13 at Belmont when on speed and fighting on strongly to run a narrow second to Cryptic Love, who was flying at the time. Has been given a good break and her two trials leading in have been pretty good.

I think up to 1200m should suit the Jim Taylor trained 7 More Aces (Bet Now: $8.00), who has been at 1000m at his past couple, the latest coming three weeks ago when sitting on a fast speed and just tiring late when beaten a couple of lengths by Downforce. I like him up in trip and if he gets on speed and doesn’t do as much work, he’s hard to beat.

2 Settlers Creek (Bet Now: $8.50) isn’t going too bad I think for Colin Webster and despite remaining at 1200m, I think he’s one for multiples. He’s raced at this track/distance in both runs back from a spell and while he hasn’t really threatened, I didn’t mind the way he found the line last time out after getting well back. Reckon 1400m+ will be ideal, but a fast run 1200m could see him run top four.

LONG SHOT: Race Three Number 4 Speeding Comet
