13/12/2024 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Canterbury

3 Sounds Unusual (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a near good thing to start the program. He debuted over 1500m at Newcastle where he got back to near last in the run and worked home with real purpose in a strong effort at start one, finishing second to Rose’s Legacy. Fitter and up to 1900m, I think good luck beating him.

7 Great White Shark (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was nominated for the Grand Prix at Eagle Farm but Waller has elected to save him for this. He ran over 1550m here two weeks ago and loomed to win but the bias worked against him and he had no answers late for the finale of Amusing. Up to 1900m looks fine and only runs well.

8 Tempestry (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1900m. This three year old debuted over 1500m at Newcastle. He was tucked in behind them and didn’t really get the clearest of paths in the straight but when clear, he was sound enough in defeat. Like the rise in trip and should be strong late.

3 Hell To Pay (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should take a power of beating here for the O’Shea/Charlton camp. He resumed over 1100m here where he was one of the runs of the meeting in defeat, closing off with purpose from near last when third to Gerringong. Fitter and up in trip, can settle much closer in the run, I think he’ll have a bit on these and head to the Gold Coast.

1 Maori Chief (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has an engine under the hood and keen to see how he goes. He returns to racing as a gelding, having a three run prep in the latter part of the Winter. He placed in each run and was quite good each time he stepped out. Nice trial at Canterbury to get ready for the return so keen to see how he goes.

6 Railway Man (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a well bred colt for Ciaron Maher that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since two runs in the Winter, being quite plain here fresh before a strong third over 1100m at Bendigo. Been given a good break and has trialled up nicely for the return. Watch the market.

1 Vanessi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top in what looks a two horse race. She resumed over 1250m here, attempting to lead throughout and gave a strong kick but just couldn’t quite see it through, run down late by Inside Man. Like her back to 1100m and from the inside gate, she’ll get every chance.

2 Blanc De Noir (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the key and only threat. She debuted over 1000m at Hawkesbury when on speed and looked to have her chance but couldn’t quite see it through when third to Blue Illusion. Maps to get run of the race from the inside gate and with good upside, appeals.

9 Regimental Colours (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one to be entertained for exotics. She has had two career outings, both over this track/distance, where each time she has been on speed and has been solid enough but has had her chance each time. Not sure she wins, but is a must for exotics.

1 Soldier Of Rome (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the leader and with front end control, will take running down. He couldn’t find the top at Rosehill last time, sitting outside the leader, and he couldn’t quite finish the job when down the track behind Ring Me Up. If he finds the front and gets control, he’ll take running down.

8 Kirikan (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door. He ran over this track/distance a fortnight back in the small field and tried hard but just lacked the polish to put them away late in the piece when third to Concello. Maps perfect and does have a liking for this track/distance.

2 Go Troppo (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes through the Ring Me Up race mentioned above. He was near the front as well and couldn’t finish the job, tiring late to run 11th. He does save his best for this track/distance and the depth isn’t deep, so he can bounce back.

8 Husk (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a big price. Team Hawkes trained mare that resumes, having not raced since July 13 when on speed at Caulfield and fought hard but found one better in subsequent Stakes winner Manolo Bling. Trialled well, lands near the front and strikes a winnable race.

10 Gerringong (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the favourite and hard to beat…is she on the short side though? Dominant win two weeks ago here when on debut but she did have the pattern in her corner and not sure she beat a great deal. But, she was impressive and is a filly clearly heading in the right direction. Commands respect, hard to beat…but very short in betting.

3 Rumours Abound (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for Ron Stubbs, who rarely misfires when he comes to town. Total forgive first up at The Valley after doing too much work on speed. She had a mini break, went to Gundagai and ran a much improved race in defeat when third to Extravagent Lad. Lands near the front and will only run well.

8 Zealously (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has come back in super order for Peter Snowden. He is 2/2 this time in, winning fresh at Kembla in dominant fashion before going to 1000m here when dominant once again. He does seem very suited at the short course so he appeals as hard to beat against these.

6 Jambalaya (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the hardest to beat. He resumed over 1100m at the midweeks at Canterbury when on speed and tried hard but first up, condition just gave way late when third to Midnight Dynamite before being a touch plain at Warwick Farm. Third up and hard fit, his best is good enough to threaten.

5 Vegas Raider (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Invader that resumes for David Pfieffer. This guy is first up, having not raced since July 27 at Randwick when leading and failed to handle the bog ground when down the track behind Hi Dubai. Trialled up well for the return and his best is good enough to be dangerous.

5 Bat Out Of Hell (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the way I am leaning. He ran over this track/distance four weeks ago when near the speed and presented to win when clear but couldn’t quite see it through when third to Inquiring Minds. I think if Rachel lets him get the front, get some form of control, he’ll take running down.

2 Inquiring Minds (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has returned well. He let down with purpose to win the race mentioned above, giving them a start and a beating in a strong performance. Gets in well after the claim and with good upside to come, he’s one of the leading contender.

4 Unlimited (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Chris Waller trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Sep 18 when a strong winner over 1900m, finishing best and proving too good for a nice horse, Green Belt. Fresh at 1550m signals some of intent and his trial work has been solid.

8 How Dare You (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the straight bat play in the get out. She is second up, four weeks between runs after resuming over this track/distance when…I don’t know how to explain the run. Tailed off last, then picked up, was tracking with purpose, but then had zero luck in the straight. Looks to have returned very well and with a positive ride, she’ll take beating.

10 Winston Hill (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Invader for Matty Smith that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Jan 20 when an impressive winner over 1200m at Kembla, giving them a start and a beating in a sharp display. Been given a good break and the extensive trial work suggests he’s ready to go.

6 Cash Me (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a kind map in his corner to run a much improved race. He is having his first run for Anthony Cummings after formerly being with son Ed. His best form is over further, but his tick over trial was good and maps to do no work. Watch the market.

NEXT BEST: Race One Number 3 Sounds Unusual

LONG SHOT: Race Five Number 8 Husk
