A bumper card has been assembled for Morphettville Parks this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out five metres for the remainder.

Race One (12:33pm) : David & Mary Axon-Stokes Handicap (70) 1050m: Form Guide
Back Me: Looks to be a race dominated by the top three. I’ll stick with the Victorian form and Invincible Heart (Best Odds: $2.30), who took care of an average lot when resuming in a Moe maiden, sitting on speed throughout for a comfortable win. Harder here, but I like it when Mick Price sends horses to Adelaide and he strikes a very winnable race here.
Big Danger: Viddora (Best Odds: $2.80) was well backed when resuming on the Parks track where he sat outside the leader all the way and gunned it down for a gritty maiden win. He should get the gun run from the barrier and Joe Bowditch is riding in fabulous form at the moment.
Roughie: Jest For The Road (Best Odds: $7.50) resumes here for Jon O’Conner after a pretty solid first prep, which yielded a win and two seconds from four outings. He has looked pretty good in a couple of barrier trials and with the claim for Siggy Car, he looks well weighted.
Race Two (1:08pm) : Hyland Race Colours Handicap (80) 1200m: Form Guide
Back Me: Come Follow Me (Best Odds: $21.00) hasn’t won in a while, but there was good merit in her effort last time out on the Parks track when working home strongly late to finish fourth behind Alysiana, and then didn’t recover 100%, adding merit to the performance. Was due to run on Wednesday, but the stable have elected to run here, which seems to have more depth, so I think that is a sign of confidence.
Big Danger: Dropping back to 1200m should suit Molly The Snip (Best Odds: $7.50) after racing over 1400m last Saturday on the Parks track when a game second to impressive winner Rocket Commander. She can sit back or go forward, so her adaptability is an advantage here, and Gatt is on, and he is riding very well at the moment.
Roughie: Okahu Bay (Best Odds: $26.00) resumes here for the Stokes barn after winning the Fillies Classic towards the end of the Carnival. That was over 2500m, and she didn’t do a great deal in the trial, so the stable certainly have eyes on Melbourne with her, so whatever she does here she will improve on, but she has class to be competitive and perhaps sneak a place.
Race Three (1:48pm) : First Care Medical Handicap (82) 1600m: Form Guide
Back Me: It’s hard to hold out an in form galloper, and Rocket Commander (Best Odds: $2.50) is certainly. The race last week was depleted by scratchings, but he still had to do the job and he did it in grand fashion, bolting home by four lengths. Up to the mile is a slight query, and he will get a good test here, but he is low flying at present.
Big Danger: Temps Voleur (Best Odds: $2.80) ran over 2040m last start and ran a very close second to in form galloper Shenzhou Steeds. He was due to run in the Kingston Town at Rosehill but the stable have decided to target the easier option, which is here, and on class, he is the one to beat.
Roughie: Set In Stone (Best Odds: $15.00) steps up to the mile after racing over 1200m last week on Balaklava Day where he worked home strongly late, but just died on the run late. He will be suited up to the mile, and though he lacks the class, he is a definite smokey IMO.
Race Four (2:23pm) : National Jockey’s Trust Series Final (70) 1200m: Form Guide
Back Me: Northern Zhar (Best Odds: $2.15) for me here. He ran over 1000m on the Parks track when resuming and he looked to have his chance I thought when third to Cashed, but I think 1000m is short of his best. Up to 1200m is more his go, and back on the normal track should see him prove hard to hold out.
Big Danger: Hill Spy (Best Odds: $15.00) was an eye catcher when resuming at Mildura a few weeks back, settling last in the run before working to the line quite strongly late to run a close up fifth. This doesn’t look any harder, gate one and Gatt on.
Roughie: Burnro (Best Odds: $8.00) resumed a couple of weeks back and didn’t really handle the wet track, struggling to make up any significant ground. He is much better than that, and with a likely firmer surface here, he could sharply improve.
Race Five (3:03pm) : UBET Handicap (82) 1050m: Form Guide
Back Me: Sticking solid with Cashed (Best Odds: $2.80), who was given a lovely ride from Josh Cartwright, who got the horse to get three wide cover before peeling out and letting down powerfully to win with a fair bit of ease. Pannell is back on and he rides the horse very well.
Big Danger: Classy Jack (Best Odds: $7.00) ran in the feature sprint on Balaklava Cup Day and he didn’t look entirely happy on the shifty surface when a tiring fourth. His win two back over this track/distance was very good, so don’t be surprised to see him bounce back into the winners list.
Roughie: Periduki (Best Odds: $31.00) is an absolute speed demon who resumes for Mick Whittle. He is a ten time winner on the track who scored a surprise first up win last time in over this distance. Drawn wide, but he should spear across and give his backers a sight at odds.
Race Six (3:43pm) : Markeysaddlery.com.au Handicap (90) 1200m: Form Guide
Back Me: Just go one out with Lord Aspen (Best Odds: $2.30) here. He is a star who showed tremendous promise this time last year, which ended with a strong fifth in the Sandown Guineas, his first career defeat. His trial last week was very sharp, and all things being equal, he should beat these ala Miss Gunpowder last Saturday.
Big Danger: Cellarmaster (Best Odds: $7.00) tried his guts out when resuming here a couple of weeks back over this track/distance when running second to reent Stakes winner Riziz, who had the soft run on speed and the fitness edge. Cellarmaster should take good improvement from that outing and he looms as probably the only serious threat.
Roughie: King Buddy (Best Odds: $11.00) comes to Adelaide after a couple of runs in Melbourne, with the latest being a solid seventh to Churchill Dancer at Moonee Valley. Draws gate one here, Coffey on and only has to carry 52.5kg. Doubt he can win, but he can definitely place.
Race Seven (4:23pm) : Goldin Farms Morphettville Guineas 1600m: Form Guide
Back Me: At a price, I am really keen on the Tony McEvoy trained Prince Of Pagoda (Best Odds: $14.00), who made his debut a few weeks back at Gawler and looked gone on the turn, but picked up and really surged to finish third behind Eclair Attack, who has since run well in town. The blinkers go on, and we know with Zabeels, that improves them lengths. I think he could develop into a Derby contender.
Big Danger: One For One (Best Odds: $2.80) can’t do much wrong this time in. First up he ran second to a subsequent Flemington place getter, then has won his next two starts. Little query at the mile, but with the right trip, he should get it, and brilliance wise, he is the one to beat.
Roughie: Karlovasi (Best Odds: $7.00) is a tough on speed bugger for Paul Gatt who led all the way to win two on the bounce before running third to One For One. He should lead comfortably again, and he loves a fight, so he will be in it for a long way.
Race Eight (4:58pm) : The Highway After Party Handicap (0-68) 1600m: Form Guide
Back Me: Going to take a chance with Divan (Best Odds: $2.10). This Lloyd Williams youngster was touted as a Cox Plate contender after his barnstorming maiden win at Sandown, but he then went to Flemington and wasn’t 100% behind Merion. On potential, he is clearly the best horse in the race, and Lloyd Williams runners have returned in great order on what we’ve seen so far.
Big Danger: Cyclone Thomas (Best Odds: $12.00) ran over 1800m here last time out and was far from disgraced when running fourth to impressive winner The Chairman, beaten just under three lengths. Back to the mile suits and Gatt remains on.
Roughie: Anuradha resumed over this distance last week at Balaklava and worked home strongly late from near last on the turn to finish fifth to impressive Five To Midnight (Best Odds: $6.00). The lone career win did come second up last time in, and the first up run was too good to dismiss.
BEST BET: Race Six Number 8 Lord Aspen
NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 2 Rocket Commander
VALUE: Race Seven Number 7 Prince Of Pagoda
