The Parks track at Morphettville will play host to SA metro racing on Saturday, headlined by the Furphy Stakes (1000m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:36) M&j Chickens (bm66) 1250m
5 Enaaya (Bet Now: $3.20) for me. The McEvoy stable trains this filly, who debuted here two weeks ago over 1000m when very green in the straight and should have won IMO. Just didn’t put it together when it counted. You’d like to think she’ll come right on from that and up to 1250m, fitter…looks the one to beat in a competitive race.
2 Koruto (Bet Now: $13.00) is a big improver here. Debuted at this track three weeks ago in a field of five and had good late market support so was expected to run well but he was very raw and new to the caper in a total forgive I think behind Great Leveller. Had showed good talent at the jumpouts prior to that so not dropping off.
9 Shebringzit (Bet Now: $11.00) is a daughter of Sebring for Mick Huxtable that was specked at odds when resuming in a 2YO maiden at Strahtalbyn where she was off the speed and tried hard but clearly no match for the impressive winner Cinderella, who had good form around it, so that reads well for this and stable is going very well with their juveniles.
Race 2. (13:11) Tab Country Cup (rs0ly) 1950m
7 Adatto (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Michael Hickmott trained gelding that is looking for further and that’s what he gets here. Last couple of runs have come over the mile, the latest being last Wednesday in the race won by Sasun at Murray Bridge. Closed off strongly and got close, finishing second. He’s racing as if the 1950m will suit and gets gate one. Likeable.
3 Sasun (Bet Now: $4.50) looks primed to run well here and if this was run where it should be, Oakbank, he’d be a near moral. Barry Brook has him flying at the moment. Hadn’t raced since February when winning impressively over the mile last Wednesday at Murray Bridge. He’ll come right on from that and looks set up beautifully to run well here.
Back in trip should suit 10 Cobbers Mate (Bet Now: $26.00), who ran over 2400m here last time out. Was back off the speed before making a sharp mid race move to land on speed and put the pressure on, but soon folded up when down the track behind Turf Man. Much better suited at this kind of distance range and off his run two back behind Lostarc, he’s a threat at big odds.
Race 3. (13:46) Schweppes (bm68) 1400m
3 Westport (Bet Now: $4.60) is a Team McEvoy trained filly that comes through the Mornington Guineas where I thought Jamie Kah put her into the sweet spot just off the speed and was there to win on the turn but couldn’t finish it off. That was her first look at the trip for this prep and hopefully that’ll toughen her up for this.
4 Stan The Caddy (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Will Clarken trained three year old that looks to have his share of ability. Was a notable drifter in betting when debuting here a few weeks ago but thanks to a lovely rail hugging ride from Todd Pannell, he savaged the line late nearer the inside and was too good. Good test here, but think he can measure up.
5 Bludog (Bet Now: $19.00) should be suited up to 1400m. Ran over 1250m here a fortnight ago, where he was remaining at the trip after looking like he wanted further after the start prior. Was warming to the task okay late in the piece behind Hypercane. Like him up to 1400m and if the track is playing fair, he’s a leading chance.
Race 4. (14:21) Fleurieu Milk Company (bm62) 1250m
Wanting to give 3 Jacobite Prince (Bet Now: $3.20) another chance. Had trialled up really well prior to resuming over 1250m here two weeks ago where he seemed to get a good run off the speed and was there to win on the turn but didn’t finish it off as well as expected. Showed good potential in his first prep so not sacking him after one run.
12 Hills (Bet Now: $4.50) is a Team McEvoy trained filly that had trialled up well prior to resuming at Gawler where she found a thin Class One and under a confident steer from Toeroek, the three year old was far too good and gave them a spanking. Has showed city class ability previously and her confidence should be sky high after that resumption.
13 La Vita (Bet Now: $10.00) is racing very honestly this time in for Stuart Gower. Been up forever it seems but this mare continues to race really well. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago where she got into a good spot under Pannell and loomed large to win but had to settle for a second to Game Keeper. Back to this sort of grade, she looks really hard to beat.
Race 5. (15:01) Aami (bm82) 1550m
2000m back to 1550m isn’t an A1 set up for 4 Naseeb (Bet Now: $3.70) but he’s a beauty and is tough. Admittedly, the race was set up for him in the Edenhope Cup, but he still had to take advantage, and did so in impressive style. The tempo should be strong here, so looking for one who will be strong at the end and Naseeb fits that criteria.
1 Hussybay (Bet Now: $8.50) is three weeks between runs for Mick Huxtable since resuming over 1300m here when wide no cover for the trip in a total forgive behind the in form Ethical Solution. He does get better as the prep goes on so up to 1550m is idea. If he can better luck this time around, he’s got the ability to take this out.
3 Borris In Ossory (Bet Now: $11.00) is a grand campaigner for Grant Young who is three weeks between runs. Did a power of work over this track/distance, sitting wide on speed, and was entitled to drop away, but he’s a tough nut, loves a fight, and dug in when required to hold them off and win. He’ll land on speed and give a great sight.
Race 6. (15:46) Oakbank Stakes 1000m
Going the way of 2 Tavisan (Bet Now: $5.00), a Price/Kent trainer sprinter who is resuming. Son of Tavistock who is an absolute bomb when produced on the fresh side and comes into this first up off a sharp jumpout win a tick over three weeks ago at Camperdown where he looked to move very well under no pressure. Saves his best for tighter tracks and think he goes close to winning this.
Market will be the guide here, but I think the best version of 1 Bold Star (Bet Now: $4.60) can see him beat these and confirm himself as a leading Goodwood contender. Hardly put a foot wrong in a Melbourne prep, which ended with a very good effort against the track pattern in the Oakleigh Plate behind Pippie. Back to this level, fast run 1000m, think he can finish right over the top.
5 Equal Love (Bet Now: $5.50) is a key threat for me. Phillip Stokes trains this talented mare, who was well backed at odds when resuming here two weeks ago and under a lovely steer from Kayla Crowther, the bets were landed as she was just too good for Li’l Kontra. She’s a mare who is very effective early on in a prep and loves racing on the Parks track.
Race 7. (16:26) Winning Edge (bm68) 1400m
6 Diplomatic Measure (Bet Now: $2.15) has returned in really good order for the McEvoy team. Tough on speed win first up at Port Lincoln before racing at this track/distance two weeks ago when on speed and fighting on gamely in defeat when a narrow second to Sky Punch. Looks to get a good run near the front again and third up should be hard fit.
3 Perfect Command (Bet Now: $3.50) is a Brenton Jones trained gelding that is going really well at the moment. Tough on speed win at this track two back before racing at Murray Bridge last Wednesday when doing plenty of work to get on speed and fought on strongly behind Sasun. Back to 1400m, soft gate, right racing pattern, hard to beat.
7 Kingsgrove (Bet Now: $8.00) looks to have come back in good order for Jordan Frew. Resumed three weeks ago over 1250m here when getting the perfect sit behind the speed and tried hard to get there, but condition just gave out late when third to Oh Mo. Like him up in trip and Sophie Logan does have a really good record on him.
Race 8. (17:01) Terry Howe Printing (bm72) 1000m
10 Seemingly Discreet (Bet Now: $2.45) is one of the better gambles on the card IMO. This filly is first up and went out on a high in her first prep, winning her last two, with the Blinkers really sharpening her up. Blinkers weren’t on in a recent Strathalbyn jumpout but gee she looked outstanding in leading throughout. Keen on her chances here.
4 Miss Labelle (Bet Now: $9.50) draws an inside gate and is a key threat for sure. Resumed last Saturday over 1050m on the course proper here when doing plenty of work from the wide gate to land on speed and tried hard but condition just gave out late when fifth to Sizzlefly in a good race. Gets an inside gate to hold a good spot and has a good second up record.
7 Exalted Lauretta (Bet Now: $18.00) is much better suited back to this level for Grant Young. Took on a solid bunch of sprinters two weeks ago at this trip and while he was outclassed, he was far from disgraced behind Equal Love in a race that had several Stakes class runners engaged. Back to this grade looks ideal and can easily bounce back.
Race 9. (17:40) Chalk Hill (bm68) 1400m
12 Grabbing Glory (Bet Now: $8.00) is a daughter of Bernadini for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp that was relatively unwanted in betting when resuming at this track/distance two weeks ago but liked the way she finished her race off behind Sky Punch after getting a fair way back in the run. Improves with that under the belt and should go close.
11 Sacred Walk (Bet Now: $6.50) is racing in pretty good form for Marilyn Smith. Attempted to lead throughout over 1300m here a few weeks ago and looked to give a decent enough kick under Stubby but was no match late for Lucky Flipper, who had the better change up speed and was too good. Looks to get a good run on speed and prove hard to run down.
8 Dreamed (Bet Now: $17.00) is the interesting runner. Ryan Balfour trains this mare, who hasn’t raced since February 15 over the mile at Morphettville in a race totally not run to suit at all behind Regalo Di Gaetano. Has had two jumpouts since to tune up for her return and this looks more her level, so keen to see how she goes.
