Race 1. (15:34) Magic Millions Plate 1100m
4 Onemoretwomany (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a good mover for Neville Parnham and despite a tricky gate, I think he’s clearly the one to beat. He has had a couple of trials to get ready for start one, the latest trial coming at Belmont on Monday where he sat on speed before taking the front under no riding and drew clear late to win and win nicely.
5 Think Lika Winner (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on debut for Ted Martinovich. He is a son of Sessions that is having start one after trialling in the trial above won by Onemoretwomany where he seemingly moved well to my eye and found the line well enough to run third in a good piece of work. This race is on the thin side re depth so I think he commands respect.
1 Scenic George (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an improver. Forgive the debut run two weeks back over 1000m here given he was wide no cover throughout and on a day where up/in was suited, he was never a factor when down the track behind Golden Vale. Trial leading in wasn’t too bad so I think with a more economical run in transit, he’s dangerous against these.
Race 2. (16:14) Wa Racehorse Owners' Association Plate 1200m
2 Home James (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should love the rise to 1200m for Neville Parnham. He is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday in the Placid Ark Prelude where he got back in the run and given the race shape, he was never a winning factor behind Oscar’s Fortune. That is two runs at 1000m to start the prep so the rise to 1200m suits and for mine, he has the runs on the board to say he’s hard to beat.
8 Run Pattie Run (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) could be a jet. Just want to see her do it again after the debut, which was an electric performance at Bunbury last week where she gave them a start and a beating, launching late over the top for a big win. Pike takes over and up to 1200m suits. If she is within range, she could easily blow these away. Just want to see her do it.
4 Sonoftheboss (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will land on speed and take running down. Market wanted him with confidence when resuming over 1000m at Northam and the plunge was landed as he led throughout and was quite dominant in the run to the line, albeit helped by the on speed track pattern, but even allowing for that, he was impressive. Hard to beat with his racing style.
Race 3. (16:54) Carbine Club Of Wa Apprentice Cup (66) 2200m
5 Diamond Scene (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is heading in the right direction and I think he is clearly the one to beat. 2/2 this time in, winning over the mile first up before stepping up to 1800m two weeks ago where he was there to be beaten but he just kept finding under pressure to fend them off and get the win. Bred to eat up 2200m and with good upside to come, he rates highly.
2 Strike Now (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to be given another look. He ran over this track/distance a fortnight back where he was held up at times and while he seemingly had his chance, I think he is a horse who needs time to build the revs and gather up momentum. I think he has that 2200m run under the belt, which should hold him in good stead for this.
1 Stylax (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an improver at odds. He ran in the Bad Wolf race from two weeks back at this track/distance when ridden quiet and he found the line well enough without threatening but the effort was sound. Think he’s a better horse when ridden with more intent so if that can eventuate here, he can run a much improved race at odds.
Race 4. (17:33) Tabtouch - Westspeed (Rs0ly) 1200m
9 Playz With Fire (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks ready to win. Rob Gulberti trained mare that resumed two weeks ago here where she was ridden like a barrier trial, very patiently, and found the line with real purpose late when second to Capricorn Man in a good return. I think she is back on track and fitter with Pike sticking, she’s clearly the one to beat for mine.
3 On The Full (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and take running down. He did that a fortnight back in the Capricorn Man race mentioned above and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get the win but stayed on well enough in defeat when third to the Team Casey sprinter. The end of 1200m at this level is the knock but he’ll give himself every chance.
5 Serviceman (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has a good second up record and can be an improver. He resumed two weeks back in the Capricorn Man race where he was back near last in the run and did make up some headway without threatening behind the Team Casey horse. He goes much better second up and with Harvey sticking, he is in with a shout, especially with a more positive steer.
Race 5. (18:10) Happy 90Th Birthday Lorna Ward (66) 1600m
7 Cosmic Crusader (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can put his hand up for the Guineas with a win here. It’s interesting he has taken on older horses and continues to do so instead of the traditional path of facing his own age. This guy ran over 1400m here two weeks ago when back in trip and found the line strongly when a close up third to Amber Glide. Back up to the mile, the grand final in a couple of weeks…all points to him winning.
2 Benji’s (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a horse who I thought could be a lightweight Railway horse but after last start, you’d have to assume those plans are off the table. He ran over 1400m a fortnight back where I thought he was a good thing but lord he was bad. He sat on speed and was the first horse beat, finishing last. First up run behind Pompey was a beauty and off that effort, he would go close here.
1 Big Screen (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is fourth up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for Justine Erkelens. He ran two weeks back at this track/distance where he attempted to lead throughout and tried his guts out but he couldn’t quite get the win and felt the pinch late to run fifth to Billy Ray. Not sure I could back him to win but can pinch a first four spot.
Race 6. (18:50) Luckygray Stakes 1800m
1 Casino Seventeen (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks to have come back in super order and I reckon he can put his hand up for the Railway with a win here. He resumed in the Northam Cup where he got back off the speed and being first up with the big weight, he just took a little too long to wind into his work but was good in defeat when third to Let’s Galahvant. Like him up to 1800m, Pike sticks, strong late, fitter…he’ll do me.
12 Pompey (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been up a while but he is flying for Team Williams. He ran second in the Northam Cup last start. He attempted to lead throughout and he gave a very strong kick but he couldn’t quite see it through when run down late by Let’s Galahvant. I reckon he’s a better horse with a bunny to chase so if that eventuates here, he’ll be around the mark.
5 Truly Inspired (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a quality stayer that resumes for Donna Riordan after formerly being with Adam Durrant. His last run came in the Perth Cup where he got a mile out of his ground and while he did make up headway, he couldn’t quite get there behind Buster Bash. Extensive trial work to get ready and he does have quality when right, so watch the market.
Race 7. (19:25) Fairetha Stakes 1400m
7 Investmentstrategy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks hard to beat against these for Neville Parnham, who seemingly has a strong hand in this race. This guy resumed three weeks ago at this track/distance when on speed throughout and he was there to win at the top of the straight but couldn’t quite finish it off and was run down late by stablemate Zipaway. Better for the run under the belt, I think he has a touch of class and that gets him home.
2 Zipaway (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is in for a ripping prep. It’s already been a winning prep, with 2/2 starts and wins to start the campaign, the latest being three weeks back at this track/distance when giving them a start and a beating in an impressive display. I think he only has to hold his form to be around the mark.
1 A Lot Of Good Men (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has had two runs back from a spell and is racing like he will love getting to 1400m. He ran two weeks back in the Belgravia over 1200m where he just found them a bit sharp but picked up and wasn’t too bad in the run to the line behind Super Smink. Third up from a spell so he should be hard fit and with a more positive ride, he’s dangerous.
Race 8. (20:02) Lee Steere Stakes 1400m
Good race with a host of chances. I am leaning towards 13 The Velvet Queen (Bet Now:Β $SP.00), who resumes. This mare is first up, having not raced since May 13 when placing in the Belmont Sprint where she got back and came with a well timed run but didn’t have the finale to go with Bustler late. Been given a break with the Carnival in mind and off nice trial work, I think she’s ready to go. Hopefully the market agrees.
9 Bustler (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks extremely hard to beat for Neville Parnham. He resumed three weeks ago where he got dragged back from the wide gate and albeit he was never a threat, he did find the line in a very good effort and return behind Karli’s Karma. Has a gate to settle much closer in the run and if that eventuates, he’s quite dangerous.
11 God Has Chosen (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an improver at odds. He resumed in the Karli’s Karma race mentioned above where he was back near last in the run and didn’t mind the way he finished the race off without threatening. Tick over trial was a decent piece of work and with Blinkers on, there is enough intent IMO to say he can run an improved race.
Race 9. (20:40) Print Hall (Rs1mw) 1200m
5 Celebrity Prince (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has a tricky gate to overcome but I am convinced he is flying. He is three weeks between runs since racing over 1400m here where he got too far back in the run and although he made up ground, he was never really a threat behind Laquetta’s Gift. Like him back to 1200m, he’s in well after the claim and should be strong at the end. Tricky race, but leaning his way.
6 Count The Sessions (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Holly Taylor trained gelding that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since Sep 2 at Belmont on a testing track and stayed on quite well in defeat in testing conditions when third to Gift Of The Heart. Resumes without a public trial but has residual fitness and can sprint well fresh so watch the market.
10 Lonsdaleite (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has found winning form for Team Williams and he can go on with it. That win came at the midweeks at this track/distance where he got a 12/10 steer from Pike and in a driving finish, he got the splits and finished best. Pike sticks and despite the rise in grade/depth, he rates as one of the key chances.
