Group racing returns to Sydney this Saturday with the Missile Stakes (1200m) headlining a solid card at Randwick. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:30) Midway (Bm72) 1100m
2 Smashing Eagle (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will be spotting them a start but he can really launch at them late. He ran over 1200m at Rosehill a few weeks ago where he was near last in the run and spotted those in front too much head start but really liked the way he found the line late in the piece. If he can get a drag into the race and be within range, good luck beating him.
5 Well Timed (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Kerry Parker trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since a Provincial Championships Qualifier at Kembla when placing in a strong race, won by Ruby Flyer. He has looked great in trial work to get ready for the return and the stable finds Nash to steer.
3 Bundeena (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is racing really well for John Thompson. He ran over this track/distance two weeks ago in a strong 3/4YO race when back, no cover, and loomed to win but couldn’t quite go on with it behind Hi Dubai when third. Back to Midway grade I like and with a better run in transit, he takes beating.
Race 2. (12:05) Tab Highway Hcp (C3) 1000m
4 Gundy Guy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a quality animal for Todd Smart that resumes and potentially has eyes on The Kosciuszko. This guy is first up, having not raced since March when down the track over 1400m in the Country Championships Qualifier. He’s a sprinter so like him at 1000m fresh and looked to move really well in a recent Queanbeyan trial.
5 Somerton Sniper (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a leading chance. Sue Grills trained gelding that resumed at Tamworth where he gave them a start and a beating, letting down with purpose late and was quite impressive the way he put them away before a similar win at Dubbo. Good test here in a Highway but off the way he has returned, I think he has the engine under the hood to measure up.
11 Everylittle Breeze (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Todd Howlett since racing in the Highway at Rosehill where she was held late in the piece but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Lonhro’s Queen. Back to a fast run 1000m I do like for her and off prior efforts, she can measure up here.
Race 3. (12:40) Inglis Yearling Entries Close 16 Aug (Bm72) 1400m
8 Bella Khadjah (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Formerly in Queensland, she now finds herself with Brad Widdup, potentially with eyes on the Princess Series. She was a strong winner over 1350m at Doomben last time where she gave them a start and a beating, letting down with purpose. Didn’t beat much, but she’s hard fit, in form and will be strong late.
6 Itβs A Knockout (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Ciaron Maher trained galloper that comes to Saturday metro grade after a debut win at the midweeks on the Kenso when leading throughout and credit to her, she was there to be beaten but she found. Harder here but with a good racing style, she appeals.
3 Patchouli Dream (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Ben Brisbourne trained mare that comes back to Sydney after winning two back. She went to Caulfield two weeks back and kept finding the line without threatening. Back up in trip, sheβs in with a shout.
Race 4. (13:15) Tab (Bm78) 2400m
1 Age Of Sail (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the one for me. Three weeks between runs for Kris Lees since racing over this trip at Rosehill when held up at a vital stage before getting clear and found the line strongly when second to Kapakiri. He’s bursting to win a race and I think he gets a great chance here. Happy to be in his corner.
3 Kapakiri (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it. He won at Rosehill three weeks ago, getting a peach from J Mac and that was the difference between winning and losing, just getting the win over Age Of Sail. He has that 2400m run under the belt, which holds him in good stead.
11 Olympic Gaze (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is capable of a cheeky showing at a big price. He ran over 1900m at Canterbury last time where he just found them too sharp on the tight track but his finale was sound enough. Like him at 2400m on the bigger track and stable is flying. Knockout hope.
Race 5. (13:50) Ranvet (Bm88) 1000m
1 Our Kobison (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a sharp sprinter for Angela Davies and I think he can resume a winner. He is first up, having not raced since March 2 when a beaten odds on favourite here behind Stakes class mare Tashi. He does fly fresh, he is suited at the short course and his trial work to get ready has been quite sharp.
2 Dancing Alone (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a quality mare for Bryce Heys that resumes. This girl is first up, with her last run coming on Derby Day at Flemington behind Queen Of The Ball when a strong third. Been given a good break and her trial work to get ready has been quite good so watch the market.
8 Boston Rocks (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at Rosehill. He contested a decent enough race over 1100m and tried hard from near the speed but he couldn’t quite finish the race off behind Nosey Parker. Hard fit, back to 1000m and down in the weights, knockout hope.
Race 6. (14:25) James Squire (Bm78) 1200m
7 Hi Dubai (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) for me in what looks an open contest. Ciaron Maher trained mare that got a beaut sit near the speed two weeks ago here and credit to her, she had to dig in late to win but she did and surged to get the victory. 1200m, I think, is okay, and in an open race, with her style, she takes beating.
3 Ningaloo Star (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks suited back in trip for John Sargent. She attempted to lead throughout over 1300m here a fortnight back and tried hard but 1300m is a bridge too far for her, especially on wet ground, behind Cadetship. Back to this level, she looks hard to beat I say.
9 Accapella Sun (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will appreciate a fast run 1200m and is dangerous for Matty Dale. She ran over 1200m a few weeks back when back near last in the run but really liked the way she finished her race off in defeat in a good effort behind Llandwyn. Fast run 1200m, she’ll be spotting them a start but should be very strong at the end.
Race 7. (15:00) Toyota Forklifts (Bm78) 1600m
5 Green Shadows (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it. He had to drop back to Midway grade to get the win but the win was dominant. I don’t think he was 100% happy on the wet track but he had far too much on them under a confident steer from J Mac. Back to the metro level now but off a strong win, he’s the one to beat.
1 Space Age (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one of the hardest to beat. Flying for Ciaron Maher and comes back to 78 after winning at 88 two weeks ago here, getting a beaut ride by Wadick and in a driving go, he was too good for Galeron. Back to a moderate 78 and yes, creeping up in the weights, but hard to knock the way he’s going.
Fitter and up to 1600m are two big ticks for 8 Arts (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). This Stakes winning mare resumed over 1300m here two weeks back where she looked like she would need the run but she still ran a very credible race in defeat behind impressive winner Cadetship. Like her up in trip and off that return, she can certainly win.
Race 8. (15:35) Missile Stakes 1200m
10 Shezanalister (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can run a much improved race for Bjorn Baker. Both runs this time in have come over 1100m here. Resumed with a strong win before racing two weeks back where Tommy Berry gave her none. The fence was quicksand but for some reason, he chose to stay there and it didn’t work out when fourth to Fleetwood. Like her up to 1200m and is a hard fit horse.
3 Schwarz (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a quality four year old for John O’Shea that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since the Fred Best at Eagle Farm when producing an end of prep run when down the track behind Roll On High. Been given a mini break and his recent trial was a very good piece of work, so keen to see how he goes.
2 Semillion (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is hard fit and racing well for Team Hawkes. He comes through the Bletchingly at Caulfield a fortnight back when on speed and he tried his guts out but just couldn’t reel in Recommendation. Good record at Randwick, hard fit, good racing style, he appeals as a key threat.
Race 9. (16:15) Precise Air Premier's Cup Prelude 1800m
I am very interested in 6 Canberra Legend (Bet Now:Β $SP.00), who resumes for Chris Waller. He has promised to be a good stayer but last prep, he didn’t really fire a shot. I find him very interesting because he has had three trials in readiness for his return, and that is unusual for Waller, and to me, it signals intent.
4 Galeron (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is racing as i he will eat up 1800m given he ran over the mile here two weeks ago. He got back in the small but I really liked the way he finished his race off in defeat when second to Space Age. Racing like the extra ground will suit, he’s hard fit and flying. One of the leading contenders.
11 Otyrar (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1800m. Three weeks between runs for Chris Waller since resuming over 1500m in the Winter Challenge at Rosehill where he just looked in need of the run, finishing down the track behind Jojo Was A Man. Fitter and up in trip, his best is more than good enough.
Race 10. (16:55) Hyland Race Colours (Bm78) 1200m
13 Union Army (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an improving type for the Ryan/Alexiou camp. He resumed over 1200m at Rosehill three weeks ago where he just got too far back and was never really a factor behind Iron Man. Had trialled well leading in so the run was a bit perplexing but his best is more than good enough to give this a shake.
11 World Alliance (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is racing as if he will appreciate a rise to 1200m. He ran two weeks ago over 1100m here where he had to lump 59.5kg on a testing track and while held, he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Hi Dubai. Relative weight relief, hopefully a firmer deck and up in trip, he appeals.
1 Key Largo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is racing as if he’ll appreciate a rise to 1200m and has a class factor. He ran three weeks ago over 1100m at Rosehill when first up and jut got too far back but didn’t mind his finale late in the piece behind Jedibeel. Back to a moderate 78 vs last time, a strong open sprint, he has to rate highly.
