1/8/2020 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Eagle Farm

Eagle Farm will play host to a nine event meeting on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out half a metre for the entire circuit.

3 Igor (Bet Now: $2.35) looks hard to beat for Kacy Fogden. Just got a mile out of his ground at Ipswich a fortnight back but loved the way he found the line late behind Bangers And Mayo. Can sit much closer in the run this time around if need be and if that does eventuate, off the last start effort, he’ll take a power of beating.

2 Apache Chase (Bet Now: $2.05) has his share of talent for the Desleigh Forster stable and finds a winnable Saturday race. Resumed over 1400m here when ridden positively by Taylor Marshall to find the front and despite being strongly challenged in the straight, he kept finding and was too good. Should be near the speed again and proving hard to run down.

1 Treasure Of Gold (Bet Now: $3.80) isn’t a long shot, but he’s next best. Hard fit and racing well for Michael Nolan after running second in the race mentioned above won by Bangers And Mayo. Tempo/track pattern was against those behind the leader and eventual winner, so be very forgiving of that. Small field helps and overall depth isn’t as strong.

In the corner of 2 Sir Barnabus (Bet Now: $4.20) for Jason Edwards. Ran over 2150m at Ipswich two weeks ago when back near last off a moderate speed, but closed off with purpose late to just miss out on picking up Fighting Teo. Off that, he’ll eat up the extra 50m and his overall form does suggest he likes the bigger tracks. Hard to beat.

4 Romakash (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Matt Kropp trained stayer that was having his first run in just under two months at Ipswich over 2150m a fortnight back and Kropp nearly pulled off a great training effort, but had to settle for a close up second to Fighting Teo. You’d like to think he’ll improve off that and is a definite winning chance here.

5 Tamarack (Bet Now: $16.00) is having his third run for Steve O’Dea and I think out to a staying trip on a big track, he can improve. Not sure Ipswich suited him last time out but didn’t really fire a shot behind Fighting Teo in a disappointing effort. The run over 1800m here the start prior was good, so perhaps back to Eagle Farm can see him bounce back.

On top is 4 Mangione (Bet Now: $5.50) for Chris Waller. Been up a little while but continues to hold his form. Ran over the mile at Ipswich two weeks ago where I don’t think he was 100% happy on the tight track but balanced up and was good late when a close up third to Barefoot. Back onto a bigger track I think is a big tick and depth, overall, isn’t strong.

2 Prometheus (Bet Now: $4.50) is racing really well for the low flying Sears camp, that is in a real purple patch at the moment. Thought he did a great job to win at the Sunny Coast three weeks ago. Sat on what was a moderate speed but had to sustain a run to wear down the leader, but did and fought on hard to get the job done. Stable is flying and all their runners should be respected.

9 Twilighter (Bet Now: $17.00) gets the Blinkers first time here for Desleigh Forster so I’d watch the market. She resumed in the race won by Prometheus mentioned above and just forget she went around. Not sure she was entirely comfortable on the bog track and the tempo didn’t help her cause. She’s better than that so giving her another chance.

9 Bleu Zebra (Bet Now: $1.50) is a Tony Gollan trained filly that looks pretty smart and should win, but do I want to take $1.50/thereabouts? No way. Looked the part at the trials and justified that on debut at the Sunny Coast with a commanding win in solid enough. Not the strongest race this, think she gets away with it, but happy to just watch than dive into the shorts.

5 Azzareach (Bet Now: $6.00) is an interesting runner. Son of Outreach that was unwanted in betting when debuting at the Gold Coast but nobody told the colt that because he showed really good change up speed when asked and was much too good. Was $20 that day and is now $6/thereabouts, but he does look progressive.

1 Miss Lot Won (Bet Now: $10.00) resumes for Tom Button and I think she’s an interesting runner. Hasn’t raced since sitting wide no cover throughout in a feature 2YO race at Rockhampton but she cruised to the front and ended up bolting in. Has a third to Away Game in the Calaway Gal on the CV, which reads well for this. No public trials, so watch the market.

Think 3 Hi Fiver (Bet Now: $9.50) can run a big race here. He ran over 1000m here a couple of Wednesdays back where he was near last in the run and spotted them too much head start, but closed off nicely behind Piracy. Larry Cassidy jumps back aboard and he rides the horse better than anyone. Also think he’s ready for the 1200m.

8 Arthur In Charge (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Chris Munce trained three year old that is racing well. Closed off nicely two back here behind Starla before stepping up to 1400m at the Sunny Coast three weeks ago and was okay without being great behind dominant winner Cloak. Like him back to 1200m, hard fit and racing in good form.

7 Chevy Nova (Bet Now: $19.00) rises a fair bit in grade/depth here but Bevan Johnson has him going well. Ran over 1200m at Rockhampton last time out and worked home pretty well without really threatening behind impressive winner Only Wanna Sing. Gets in well after the claim and if gate one is used to advantage, could be a threat at odds.

4 Dynamic Duo (Bet Now: $6.00) has done a very good job in his Queensland cameo for Tony Noonan, winning his past two, both coming over 1200m at the Gold Coast. Brilliant finale from a hopeless spot in the straight saw him win two weeks ago, clocking good late splits too. 1400m looks ideal and hopefully can sit closer in the run from the draw.

Remaining at 1400m is the knock with 2 Slow Hands (Bet Now: $6.00) but he looks to be in for a good prep if his resumption is any guide. Resumed at this track/distance when back off the speed. Flat footed when the sprint went on but picked up and was good late when second to Smooth Move. Would love a rise in trip, but he’ll be strong late.

7 Smooth Move (Bet Now: $8.50) won that that race mentioned above here that Slow Hands resumed in and I thought it was a lovely ride from Huxtable. Lobbed into a beaut spot just off the speed and made sure he had full momentum early on in the straight so he wasn’t outsprinted. Larry Cassidy jumps aboard, draws well and is racing well.

Think this is lovely placement by Kris Lees when it comes to his quality mare 6 Bubbles Ball (Bet Now: $7.50). Didn’t win in four runs during the Autumn but two of those runs were in Provincial Championship Qualifiers where she was excellent each time. Two trials leading in have been good, should have won first up last prep and she finds a very winnable race.

5 Socialising… (Bet Now: $3.20) less said the better re the ride from Nothdurft three weeks ago at the Sunny Coast. Did a good job of getting it badly held up until it was all over and really, a half decent steer and she wins comfortably. Racing really well is this girl and you’d like to think the rub of the green will go her way this time around.

12 All Shiraz (Bet Now: $8.00) is in career best form for Rex Lipp and is a must for exotics. Comes through the Maddi Rocks race from a fortnight back at Ipswich and not sure she was entirely happy on the tight track, but closed off pretty well to run third. Like her on the bigger track, sits off a good speed and should be strong at the end.

With a bit of class, and a firmer deck, in the corner of 4 Smartedge (Bet Now: $4.80). His trials leading into this prep suggested he was in for a good campaign but has been plagued by wet tracks, something he hates, so Eagle Farm with fine weather I do like for this guy, new stable and finds such a thin race. Happy to be in his corner.

2 Right Or Wrong (Bet Now: $7.50) has to be respected here against these. Ran two weeks ago over 1350m at Ipswich and I’m always one that is a tick for initiative instead of waiting, so on face value, the tactics to push the button down the side was odd, he had to because they were walking. Hard fit, up to 1400m are ticks. Just whether or not he can handle the two weeks between runs after a hard effort.

13 Red Doulton (Bet Now: $11.00) is knocking on the door to win one for Nat McCall. She was too bad to be true at the Gold Coast but the stable backed up a week later at the Sunny Coast, had market support, and charging home late when third to Prince Of Tie. Seems to save her best for the big tracks, has a touch of quality to go close here.

In the corner of 14 Parangas (Bet Now: $2.70) for Steve O’Dea. Been threatening to win this mare, but the Blinkers really switched her on it seems at the Gold Coast a fortnight back. Trucked into the race beautifully and from the home turn onwards, she was the only horse you wanted to be on, duly bolting up. If she can improve off that, she’ll take some beating here.

3 Dissolution (Bet Now: $17.00) is suited back to 1800m I feel. David Vandyke trained gelding who has raced over 2200m at his past couple and I just don’t think he runs out the trip, the latest of those runs coming three weeks ago at Eagle Farm behind impressive winner Humbolt Current. Like him back in trip and can bounce back here.

12 Momentum To Win (Bet Now: $18.00) is racing pretty well this time in for the Guy stable. Ran over 2200m at the Gold Coast two weeks ago where he was on speed and fought on pretty well in defeat when third to Lady Solerno. Think this is his sort of trip, at this level especially, and off his win at the trip four back, he’s in the mix.

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 3 Smartedge
