Three days ago at Del Mar racetrack in the States, top Puerto Rican-born hoop Irad Ortiz rode a masterful race to land the Gr 3 Jimmy Durante Stakes on Tezzaray.
Today, however, he wasn’t quite as proficient.
Now, I love jocks. I think they are superb athletes and I simply couldn’t do what they do. I applaud great rides constantly.
This one wasn’t a great ride, however, and I suspect even jockeys watching on would shake their collective heads in disbelief at how reckless this was.
Watch the replay.
Ortiz was angling his mount across from a wide gate and just did not even look at the horse with the rider in yellow on the fence.
No news on just what the stewards did with this ride or for that matter on the condition of the rider on the fence.
But this is about the worst lack of care I’ve ever seen by a rider.
