Leading Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe contender Sarafina could tackle the Prix Foy at Longchamp as part of her preparations for the main event in October.
Alain de Royer-Dupre’s mare was an unlucky third in the Arc last season and has been elevated to near the head of pre-post lists for this year’s renewal following the career-ending injury suffered by Epsom Derby hero Pour Moi.
Sarafina has been given a break since landing the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud in June and Georges Rimaud, racing manager to owner the Aga Khan, is looking forward to seeing her return to action.
“She is absolutely fine and of course the likely aim for her is the Arc,” Rimaud said.
“We still need to decide on which race she will run in beforehand, but the Prix Foy is definitely being considered.
“The Prix Vermeille is the other option but we might have another horse to run in that, so the Foy is the likely option we will take.
“She has been given a break since her last run at Saint-Cloud. The trainer can operate as he sees fit and there is no need to overdo it.”
Rimaud has been involved in racing long enough to be able to empathise with connections of Pour Moi.
“It is unfortunate for his connections but these things happen in racing,” he said.
“We have had our share of misfortune this year and things rarely pan out as you expected them to at the start of the season.”
