James Given is keeping his fingers crossed Indian Days can give him an emotional first Group One success in Sunday’s Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud.
The six-year-old has been a fine servant to the yard over the past couple of seasons, plundering the Bosphorus Cup in Turkey last year and making a winning return in the John Porter Stakes at Newbury.
He was not disgraced behind stablemate Dandino at Newmarket at his next start and Given feels his run in the Coronation Cup, where he was last of five, is best forgotten.
“He’s left home already and he’s in great nick at the moment,” he said.
“He didn’t have much of a race at all at Epsom. He only lost four kilos and the journey to the track probably did that rather than the race.
“He looks really well and he’s moving well – we’re delighted there are only five runners.
“It’s probably going to a slightly messy affair but there is a long straight and that should suit.
“There are good horses in the race, but there isn’t a Midday or a St Nicholas Abbey to contend with.
“It would be fantastic if he could win a Group One and I’m sure there would be a lot of tears.”
The son of Daylami is the sole British runner, with Sarafina, Cirrus Des Aigles, Silver Pond and Zak Hall making up the opposition.
