Connections of Medicean Man are in two minds whether to run Sunday’s Ascot winner in the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood on Saturday.
Trainer Jeremy Gask is considering several factors, including the ground, other possible races and how the handicapper assessed his latest performance.
Medicean Man could go for the valuable six-furlong (1200m) handicap at Goodwood for which he has a 6lb (2.5kg) penalty, or he could drop back to the minimum trip for the Abergwaun Stakes at Tipperary on August 5.
“He’s come out of the race well. We’ve still got the Stewards’ Cup as an option,” Gask said.
“We’re just weighing up what to do. We still have to make a final decision whether we race there.
“We’re trying to predict what the handicapper might do or we may go to Tipperary for a Listed race. That’s a possibility.
“We’re just playing it by ear at this stage. It’s partly the ground at Goodwood. I wouldn’t want it to be quickening up. I would rule him out if the ground looked like getting too quick.”
