Channel 4 has reaffirmed its commitment to British horse racing following the news it will be the new home for Formula 1 on terrestrial television.
The broadcaster is currently involved in negotiations to continue to show horse racing once its current deal expires in 2017.
It was announced on Monday that Channel 4 would replace BBC to show Formula 1 next year.
“We’re still in the media rights negotiations regarding racing, so that process is still under way,” Channel 4 Racing’s press officer, Hannah Walker, said.
“Channel 4 is absolutely committed to covering racing.
“We’ll make sure as regards to the races and the prelims etc that we work with our right-holding partners and make sure we all work together to maximise each other’s audiences.
“As regards any conflicts of times etc we’ve worked with racing and cricket before. We have multi sports, so it’s all about working as a team.
“We worked before with cricket and we had Richie Benaud and Mike Atherton on the Morning Line. We make it work for us.”
Channel 4 has signed a new deal with Formula 1 to show 10 live races per season, as well as highlights of all other races. Sky Sports will continue to show every F1 race live.
