Richard Hannon’s Queen Mary winner Best Terms is likely to have her next race at York’s August meeting in either the Lowther or the Nunthorpe Stakes.
The Exceed And Excel filly has won all her three races and beat the highly-touted Shumoos in a close finish at the Royal Meeting .
Will Edmeades, racing manager for the juvenile’s owner Robert Barnett, has all but ruled out a run in the Cherry Hinton at Newmarket next week and a trip up north is on her agenda.
“We haven’t finalised a plan to be honest, she’s just ticking over quietly, but I’m pretty sure we will not be going to Newmarket for the Cherry Hinton,” Edmeades said.
“The Molecomb at Goodwood would be a possible but the only problem there would be the 5lb (2.5kg) penalty. If we went there it would be to find out if she was purely and simply a five-furlong (1000m) filly. She was pulling double through the Queen Mary and they were going lickety-split.
“I think the best bet at this stage would be the Lowther because it’s an easy six (furlongs, 1200m) at York. She’ll go to York one way or another I would think. I would imagine it will be the Lowther but we’ll keep all options open.
“Steve Knight, the head lad down at Everleigh, grabbed me about two weeks before Ascot and said ‘Don’t you worry about Shumoos, your filly is flying’, so it was no surprise to us.
“She’s so professional and has a lovely attitude. She’s got quite a stout pedigree but the one worry would be her size – she’s not very big so we won’t abuse her at two.
“The Nunthorpe is tempting with all the allowances and that will be Richard’s call as he’s done it before with Lyric Fantasy.
“The jockey could be a problem though as Richard Hughes wouldn’t be able to ride, we’d be looking at the likes of Jimmy Quinn or Silvestre de Sousa I suppose.”
