Race 1. (14:30) Griffin Plate 1000m
1 The All Out (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the one to beat. He won three weeks ago on debut at this track/distance, leading throughout and had enough in hand to score narrowly but impressively. He’ll lead again and all things being equal, he should win again.
4 Quick Money (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran second to The All Out in the race mentioned above. He got back and was run off his legs early but he picked up and was quite good late in the piece to be beaten narrowly. He’ll be better for the run, can settle closer and be effective late.
2 Kiama (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Lope De Vega that is on debut for John Size. He’s had a few trials under the belt to get ready for start one and hasn’t been too bad without jumping up and down. He should be strong late and has drawn the right part of the track.
Race 2. (15:00) Jordan Handicap (Class 5) 1200m
2 Fairy Horse (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done his recent racing at Happy Valley but is quite capable at Sha Tin and is the one to beat. His last couple of runs have come over 1200m there, the latest being a few weeks ago when back in the run and made up headway late without threatening. He’ll spot them a start but on the bigger track, should be strong late.
1 Lucky Man (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes back to 1200m after racing over 1400m here a few weeks ago when getting a good run in transit off the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite get there. Like him back to 1200m and this isn’t a deep contest.
7 Ho Ho Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance. He got back to near last in the run and made up ground without threatening behind Wind Speeder. He was six weeks between runs so with upside/improvement, he’s in the mix.
Race 3. (15:30) Hung Hom Handicap (Class 4) 1200m
4 Better And Better (Bet Now: $SP.00) can make a winning debut for Frankie Lor. He has had extensive trial work to get ready for start one, the latest trial being a couple of weeks ago at Sha Tin when running second, beaten a few lengths, but I thought moved well. Zac on for the debut signals intent.
7 Lucky Symphony (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been strong in two runs back from a spell and is one of the hardest to beat, being runner up each time. Latest run was on March 13 over this track/distance when far from disgraced in defeat behind Crossborderpegasus. The gate is tricky but he is talented and can win.
8 Perfectday (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Gingerbread Man that is on debut. He’s another that has had extensive trial work and for the most part, hasn’t been too bad to my eye. Tricky gate to overcome but think he has talent so watch betting and see what it does.
Race 4. (16:00) Hillwood Handicap (Class 2) 1600m
Good test here for 6 Snowfield (Bet Now: $SP.00) but I am confident he can measure up. He ran over this track/distance a few weeks ago when off speed and chased with purpose in defeat I thought behind Voyage Samurai. Maps to get a sweet sit in transit and be dangerous late.
5 Hong Lok Golf (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done little wrong in a five start career and commands respect. He is a few weeks between runs since winning over 1400m, finishing best from off the speed to beat a good horse, Light Years Charm. The rise to the mile is fine and hard to knock a horse with his record.
2 The Golden Scenery (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the Voyage Samurai race mentioned above. He got back off the speed and in a race that turned into a sit/sprint, he couldn’t quite get involved. If he can use the inside gate and settle closer in the run, he’s dangerous.
Race 5. (16:30) Gascoigne Handicap (Class 3) 1200m
2 Crossborderpegasus (Bet Now: $SP.00) put his unbeaten run on the line when racing over this track/distance on March 30 and he seemed to have his chance, just missing out on the win and making it 3/3 when second to Aeris Nova. Couple of tick over trials since have been strong and looks the most likely/progressive.
1 Anode (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the more fascinating runners on the card. Formerly with GaiBott, he is now with Danny Shum. He was a good horse when racing in Sydney but has come here to Hong Kong. Trial work has been strong, watch betting.
8 King Of Dubai (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs since racng over this track/distance where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, I didn’t think he was too bad in defeat behind Geneva. Not sure he wins, but could be a first four sleeper at a big price.
Race 6. (17:00) The Kowloon Cricket Club Centenary Cup (Class 4) 1600m
3 Etalon Or (Bet Now: $SP.00) is still a maiden after ten starts but I think that will change here. He ran over this track/distance two weeks ago where he got back to near last in the run but loved the way he closed off in defeat behind Bright Inheritance. If he can get a drag into the race, be within range, I think good luck beating him.
2 Gallant Epoch (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to the mile after racing over 1400m here a fortnight back. He landed on speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through. Should press forward and without spending too many petrol tickets, he’s dangerous.
4 Times Table (Bet Now: $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where he got back to near last and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up ground and was pretty good in defeat. His best is good enough to threaten.
Race 7. (17:35) Cox's Handicap (Class 4) 1400m
3 Mr Cool (Bet Now: $SP.00) is progressive and heading in the right direction. Track/distance winner from last start, getting off speed but came with a well timed run to finish best and score. Tricky draw, but he’s on the up and strikes a winnable race.
6 Shamus Storm (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran third to Mr Cool in the race mentioned above. He got back to near last but was a real eye catcher late with his finale. Zac on and he can settle much closer in the run. Dangerous.
8 Celestial Patch (Bet Now: $SP.00) also comes through the Mr Cool race and he wasn’t too bad in defeat I thought. He too got back and made uo some headway without threatening. If he can be within range, he has the finale to be a threat.
Race 8. (18:05) Queen Mother Memorial Cup 2400m
4 Bundle Award (Bet Now: $SP.00) is unknown at 2400m but he gives every indication of eating it up. He was very good two back in the Derby before coming back to 1800m two weeks ago and was good late from the back behind Californiatotality. The rise to 2400m, I see, as a big tick, and this isn’t a deep contest.
1 Five G Patch (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the proven 2400m performer in the race and does have class on his side. He got back to near last in the run in the same race mentioned above and while he was never a winning threat, he did find the line quite well in defeat I thought. Small field helps and has class.
5 Noisy Boy (Bet Now: $SP.00) looked like he would be a 2400m when trained by Todd Howlett in Australia so it’ll be interesting to see how he goes here. He seemed to have his chance in the Derby but was outclassed behind Cap Ferrat. Tick over trial was good and I think his best is good enough to threaten.
Race 9. (18:40) Cox's Handicap (Class 4) 1400m
5 Dazzling Fit (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been strong in two career outings and looks hard to beat up to 1400m. Both runs have come over 1200m here, the latest being on April 6 when off speed, spotted those in front a tidy start, but worked home with real purpose in a good effort in defeat. If within range, I think he’ll be too good.
1 Spirit Of Peace (Bet Now: $SP.00) is several weeks between runs for John Size since racing at this track/distance when back to last in the run but you had to like the way he finished his race off in defeat behind Sky Deep. If he can settle closer in the run, he takes beating.
10 Bling Bling Genius (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs since resuming at this track/distance. He did early work from the wide gate and the early burn just told on him late in the piece behind South Star. Better for the run, he’s a first four threat.
Race 10. (19:15) Chatham Handicap (Class 3) 2000m
2 Family Jewel (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have returned really well and up to 2000m, he’s the one they have to beat. He resumed over the mile here where he gave them a start and a beating, getting better as the race went on to win and win well. Has all the upside in the world, he’s the one to beat.
9 Gold Master (Bet Now: $SP.00) has had a couple of runs at 1800m here and is racing like a rise to 2000m will suit. The latest run was three weeks ago where he got off speed but worked home with purpose when a narrow second to Winning Wing. Tricly draw, but commands respect.
1 Senor Toba (Bet Now: $SP.00) wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Queen Mother Memorial Cup given he stays all day so 2000m here vs 2400m there I find interesting. He ran over 2200m at Happy Valley last start and was okay late without threatening behind Jumbo Legend. His best is good enough to win.
Race 11. (19:50) Austin Handicap (Class 3) 1400m
12 Savvy Warrior (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the each way speck of the meeting. David Eustace trained four year old that ran over 1200m here last time out where he got back off the speed but worked home with purpose in a good effort in defeat behind Geneva. The rise to 1400m suits, can settle closer and be effective late.
2 The Boom Box (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when off speed and chased with purpose but couldn’t quite get there when third to Brilliant Express. Zac is sticking and despite the tricky gate, is one of the hardest to beat.
4 Pope Cody (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another look. Former Queenslander that made his Hong Kong debut over this track/distance on March 23 when wide no cover throughout and tired to finish down the track. He was a potential star when racing in QLD and his trial work since that first up run has been good so don’t dismiss.
