Race 1. (22:20) Chesterfield Cup 1990m
16 Al Aali comes back up in trip after going back to 2000m at Newmarket just under two weeks ago and gee he was impressive, the way he gave them a start and a beating in an impressive effort. 2400m is fine and off a win, he commands respect.
4 Midak is another that is 2000m to 2400m and is dangerous. He ran in a Listed race at Newbury last time where he was a bit keen in the run just off speed and was okay late without threatening. Back up in trip suits and if he can harness his energy better, he’s a threat for sure.
2 Bolster is having his first run for Jack Morland and is an interesting runner. Last run was on June 5 at Epsom when leading and tiring late on testing ground. I think with a more patient steer, he can run an improved race.
Race 2. (22:55) Vintage Stakes (Group 2) 1408m
3 Haffner is top seed for me after an impressive all the way maiden win at Newmarket, leading throughout, gave nothing else a look in and was quite strong in the run to the line. Good test here against likely types but confident he can measure up.
1 Al Hudaiba was an impressive winner of the Superlative at Newmarket, sitting just off speed and was trucking before being clicked up and he showed good change up speed to get the job done. He’s flying and commands respect.
2 Dr Rascal is in the mix. Debut win saw him give his rivals a start and a beating before going to Ascot where he led, copped heat but found under pressure to score. Harder assignment here but hard to knock what he’s done.
Race 3. (11:30) Lennox Stakes (Group 2) 1408m
This looks a lovely race for 2 Lake Forest. He was very good in the Jubilee I thought, closing strongly after being tardy away. He will love getting to 1400m and if within range, I think his finale will be too much for his rivals.
5 Qirat won the Sussex last year at this Carnival and is looking to get his way back to that level. He comes here with fresh legs after a win at York in June, leading throughout to claim the Criteion. Good racing style, he commands respect.
7 Witness Stand comes through a 1400m race at Chester last start when wide, doing work and keen, with that burn telling late in the piece. Smaller field, should get good cover and his best can run top four.
Race 4. (00:05) Goodwood Cup (Group 1) 3218m
I am going to lean towards 7 Trawlerman in what should be an epic contest. He and Scandinavia had an epic battle in the Gold Cup at Ascot. He was first up and tried his guts out but the Aidan O’Brien star just got the better of him. He comes back to 3200m, he’s fitter, good racing style, he’ll run a beauty.
6 Scandinavia does command respect. He is the best 3200m+ horse in the world IMO and that was evident in the Gold Cup because the race was there to be won and he found when asked to score. He’s a star and will look the winner at some stage I am sure. Just back in trip is a query and what upside he has vs Trawlerman.
1 Amiloc steps up to two miles after racing in the Hardwicke over 2400m during Royal Ascot when off speed and was okay late but never really threatening. The rise in trip I find interesting but I say he can run first four.
Race 5. (12:45) Coral Golden Rewards Shaker Handicap 1005m
12 Twilight Calls was a last start winner at Newmarket over this trip, giving his rivals a start and a beating in an impressive performance. He’ll get back off the fast speed and think he can launch late.
3 Lexington Blitz ran over this trip several weeks ago at Epsom, leading and giving a decent sight from the front but just felt the pinch at the end. Good racing style, tough, he should be around the mark.
6 Toca Madera was a total forgive from Ascot a few weeks back, leading but copped heat and tired late to finish down the track. If he gets a better time of it on speed, he’s good enough to be dangerous.
Race 6. (01:20) British Stallion Studs Ebf Maiden Stakes 1207m
9 Launch Sequence is the straight bat play. He debuted at Doncaster at this trip where he was keen and raw behind the speed but kept chasing and finding the line in defeat. Better for the run, he should take beating here.
7 Final Objective is one of the leading contenders after racing in the Coventry at Royal Ascot when near the speed and battled away really well in defeat. Drops back to maiden company and he only has to hold his form to be around the mark.
2 Ard As A Rock should be better for the debut run, which came over this trip at Newbury when leading and trying hard but condition just gave out late. Better for the run, had market support on debut, he commands respect I say.
Race 7. (01:55) Bolney English Wines Handicap 1609m
5 Song N Dance should be better for last start, where she ran over 1400m at Newmarket, her first run in nine weeks, and just looked in need of the run. Fitter and up to the mile, good upside, she takes beating I say.
10 Si Grass is a talented filly that resumes after two runs earlier in the year on the Synthetic at Southwell, winning fresh before a game second. Looks the most progressive of this lot and if she’s ready to go, she is a leading contender.
2 Nanino Niyati ran over the mile at Ascot last time out where he was tardy away and got keen in the run but kept chasing and kept finding the line in defeat when fourth. If he can settle closer, be within range, he’ll be strong late and can win.
Race 8. (02:30) British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden 1207m
16 Zen Diva on top for me. Not sure she beat much at Salisbury last start but she made an absolute mess of them from the front, giving nothing else a look in, leading throughout. Good test here but she’s flying and is top seed.
14 Zighy was 1200m back to 1000m at Haydock last time out when back off speed near last but really liked the way she finished her race off in defeat when second. Back up to 1200m, if she’s within range, she’s got the finale to win.
5 Gold Digger steps up to 1200m after racing over 1000m at Sandown in the Coral Charge when run off her legs and was never really likely. Like her back up in trip and her best is good enough.
