26/7/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Goodwood, Goodwood Cup day

Glorious Goodwood for 2022 kicks off on Tuesday night, headlined by the Group l Goodwood Cup (3200m), where all eyes will be on grand campaigner Stradviarius.

Tricky race to start Glorious Goodwood. I want to give 10 Legend Of Dubai (Bet Now: $7.00) another chance. He was such an impressive winner fresh at Newmarket before going to the Royal Hunt Cup where he went off a hard $4.50 favourite but failed to fire a shot when down the track. Proven at 2400m so I do think a rise to 2000m suits. Giving him another look.

9 Brilliant Light (Bet Now: $7.00) is sneaky flying I think. He toughed it out quite strongly two back in the Duke Of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot over 2400m. He then came back to 2000m at York where he was on speed and lacked a turn of foot but stayed on soundly for fifth. Suspect they’ll be positive and look to be strong late.

1 West End Charmer (Bet Now: $9.50) can bounce back as he drops back in grade/depth, especially for a stable that loves to target the race. He was far from disgraced two back at Royal Ascot in the Wolferton before going to a Group ll at Newmarket when outclassed behind Yibir. Back to this level and back to 2000m, he appeals.

I think you have to believe what you saw with 6 Holloway Boy (Bet Now: $2.80). Was big odds when debuting in the Chesham at Royal Ascot, taking on some quality juveniles, and he made an absolute mess of them in such an impressive debut. If he just holds that form, he wins this surely.

5 Galeron (Bet Now: $8.50) is a striking son of Camacho that has had two career outings, both over 1200m here. Solid fifth on debut before bolting up next time out and racing like he wants 1400m, which he gets here. Jamie Spencer sticks, he’ll ride the patient race and be strong late.

8 Marbaan (Bet Now: $10.00) is putting together a tidy little record for Charlie Fellowes. He has been impressive his past couple, winning over 1200m at Nottingham before stepping up to 1400m at Salisbury and being impressive again. Good test here, but confident he can measure up.

7 Sacred (Bet Now: $2.80) looks quite clearly the one to beat. William Haggas trained four year old that resumed in the Platinum Jubilee and really liked the way she finished her race off when fifth, a closing fifth. Love her up to 1400m, drops miles in grade/depth…I think she is the good thing on the card, potentially the Carnival.

5 Pogo (Bet Now: $6.50) will be around the mark for sure. He’s hard fit and in form for Charlie Hills, the latest win being the Criterion at Newmarket where he was there to be beaten but found under pressure and was too good. I doubt he’s good enough to be Sacred, but should be thereabouts.

2 Kinross (Bet Now: $6.50) is one for wider multiples. He comes through the Platinum Jubilee where was beaten around two lengths in a blanket finish. He won this race last year and looks to be going well enough 12 months. I doubt he wins, but is a must for exotics in a competitive race behind Sacred.

Each way all day for me in the shape of 2 Coltrane (Bet Now: $9.50). A forward showing here and I dare say he’ll be on the plane for the Melbourne Cup. He was a strong winner at Royal Ascot before going to Sandown in the Coral Marathon where the race shape suited him perfectly and he duly bolted up. He has a turn of foot, he can stay, he’s in form…1×3 at double figures, he’s a great gamble.

4 Kyprios (Bet Now: $2.60) could well be Yeats 2.0. Stunning winner of the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, where a turn of foot was sustained after being asked to go a fair way out…it was just astonishing the way he won. He could well be a freak and if he’s indeed a freak, they might well be running for second.

1 Away He Goes (Bet Now: $41.00) is the one at big odds I could entertain. He was of course well fancied for the Melbourne Cup last year but unfortunately injury stopped those plans. Resumed in the HJardwicke at Royal Ascot and wasn’t a factor at all. Much better suited with the run under the belt and up in trip, and he did run second in the race last year.

Back to 1000m I find interesting with 3 Indian Creek (Bet Now: $12.00) but he’s a horse racing in good form that will be quite strong late. He ran over 1200m at Epsom last time and charged to the line with purpose off a genuine speed when a narrow second. They’ll go hard here, so if he gets clear air, I think he can finish over the top.

6 Celsius (Bet Now: $6.00) is a straight bat option. This six year old has won 2/2 in 2022, winning at Ascot before a mini freshen up. Then went to Newmarket and was impressive again. He is a 1000m specialist and drawn out I do like beacuse they generally come towards the outside in these races, so keen to see how he goes in what is a competitive race.

11 Embour (Bet Now: $13.00) is back to 1000m and I think can be quite dangerous. Not sure the sit/sprint set up suited him at Catterick last time but was solid late when third. I do think he’s better suited in a truly run 1200m, but a fast run 1000m might well be up his alley and is a knockout chance.

12 Mischief Magic (Bet Now: $3.20) on top in what looks a solid maiden. Well bred colt that debuted at this track/distance on May 20 when he was under pressure a fair way out but liked the way he stayed on when third in what has turned out to be a good form race. Has the prep under the belt, drawn out and in a leading camp. He’ll do me.

3 Celtic Champion (Bet Now: $4.80) is an improver. He debuted over 1200m at Windsor down the straight where he looked very raw and new to the caper but liked the way he kept on and picked up late when a close up third. Drawn out and should be following the right horses, so he appeals.

18 Yacowlef (Bet Now: $20.00) will jump on the bunny and give a sight at odds. He showed good early toe when debuting over 1400m at Salisbury and gave a solid kick but just felt the pinch late. Gets a significant jockey upgrade with Tom Marquand taking over and he’ll be out of trouble on speed.

6 Crystal Caprice (Bet Now: $2.90) looks one of the better bets on the card. Lot of class/quality about her maiden win at Yarmouth last time where she made an absolute mess of them without really being fully extended by Ryan Moore, who stays on. She’s heading in the right direction and confident she wins again.

13 Breaking Light (Bet Now: $4.60) is an improver. Well bred type that was so so to start her career, but a wind operation was then followed by a sharp win at Haydock over 1400m. That was her first run since May 25 so you’d like to think there is improvement to come. The main threat.

7 System (Bet Now: $9.50) is one I could entertain for wider multiples. Her opening three runs for the prep were on the plain side but she stepped up to this trip last time and the end result was a much improved effort when second. Not sure she’s good enough to win, but a first four contender.

4 Kidwah (Bet Now: $4.50) on top in the get out. William Haggas trained filly that has looked pretty solid in three career outings. Won the opening two in good style before going to Newmarket where she was game in defeat when third, beaten just over a length. Gets the Hood and I do think back to 1200m is a big tick.

2 Crazy Luck (Bet Now: $5.50) is key threat. Looking to make it three wins on the bounce, her latest win being an impressive win at Chester just under three weeks back. Gets a claiming apprentice to offset the impost, she’s a mare in form and take out Kidwah, the depth is on the thin side.

12 Grantley Hall (Bet Now: $11.00) is a first four contender. Dominant maiden win two back at Redcar before going to Catterick when a game second, beaten as an odds on pop. Form around her doesn’t read too bad…not sure she’s good enough to beat the first two, but is a filly with talent.

NEXT BEST: Race Two Number 6 Holloway Boy

LONG SHOT: Race Four Number 2 Coltrane
