20/8/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – York, Ebor Handicap day

The Ebor Festival at York concludes on Saturday night, headlined by the showpiece across the four days, the Ebor Handicap (2787m).

5 Alfaila (Bet Now: $3.90) on top in a two horse race IMO. This guy ran second to the main threat, Mighty Ulysses, at Newmarket two back. He then found a thin Listed race at Pontefract and showed good change up speed from off the pace to score. The map, I think he’ll stalk Mighty Ulysses and get last look.

7 Mighty Ulysses (Bet Now: $2.05) is the other key threat. Lovely ride from Frankie saw him win at Newmarket last time, beating Alfaila, who was somewhat unwanted in betting in that race and did a bit wrong. I think he has more upside than Mighty Ulysses but Mighty Ulysses has the runs on the board.

3 Finest Sound (Bet Now: $10.00) is an improver at odds. Got Cheek Pieces applied last start at Thirsk and despite taking on two rivals, he was an impressive winner, albeit the margin was narrow. Heading in the right direction and while I doubt he wins, he is one for wider multiples.

Tricky race with a host of chances. Leaning towards 13 Soulcombe (Bet Now: $4.00). He put together a couple of sharp wins before racing over 2400m at Glorious Goodwood and was very good late in the piece behind Secret State, a quality three year old for Charlie Appleby. The rise in trip suits, down in the weights, he’ll do me.

Giving respect to 4 Caius Chorister (Bet Now: $9.00), who is looking to make it six wins on the bounce. She has been really well placed in those wins, but the latest win at Glorious Goodwood, the win had plenty of merit. She was there to be beaten but she found and on the line, she safely held her rivals. Good test for her here, but happy to respect her here.

9 Nurset (Bet Now: $12.00) has the Joseph O’Brien polish so he commands respect. Wasn’t a strong maiden at the Curragh last time but he made an absolute mess of them and was dominant in the run to the line. Had been knocking on the door to win a race and now that he has, he can go on with it.

Contender or pretender time for 8 Sacred (Bet Now: $4.40). I was red keen on her in the Lennox at Glorious Goodwood but it was just a run I thought behind Naval Crown. Showed really good promise as a three year old and third up from a break, she should just about be at peak fitness.

10 Sandrine (Bet Now: $5.50) won the Lennox and she’s back on track. She was a star juvenile but her form tapered off. Bounced back to her best with the Lennox win, albeit she did find the best ground and was ridden positively. Similar run again here, she has to be respected.

7 Rohaan (Bet Now: $8.00) is suited up in trip again I feel. His recent form has been at the six furlongs, the latest at Deauville over 1300m when fourth to Highfield Princess, who won the Nunthorpe last night, so the form reads very well for this and I do think a rise to 1400m is ideal for this guy, who has class.

Looking for a horse that will be strong late and 9 Rodrigo Diaz (Bet Now: $31.00) will indeed be that, and a win here will almost secure his ticket for the Melbourne Cup given Australian Bloodstock is involved in him. He ran in the Coral Marathon at Sandown and was just no match for Coltrane, who has since contested the Goodwood Cup and Lonsdale Cup, and been far from disgraced. Back to this trip, sitting off them, he’ll be strong at the end.

7 Okita Soushi (Bet Now: $10.00) has the Joseph O’Brien polish and brings strong form. He ran over 2800m at Royal Ascot and was very good when third, finishing second being Melbourne Cup aspirant Cleveland. The stable have a plethora of these type of horses and they are keen on this guy. Hard to beat.

2 Enemy (Bet Now: $17.00) is in with a shout. He will love getting back to this level given his last start came in the Goodwood Cup when far from disgraced behind a world class stayer in Kyprios. Run prior at Sandown was strong and before that, he arguably should have won at Royal Ascot. He appeals as a winning threat.

Waddle the finger and hope for the best. Landed with 16 Spangled Mac (Bet Now: $9.00). Son of Starspangledbanner that put together four on the bounce before going to Ascot where he ran a game second to Adaay In Asia, who won here earlier in the week, so the form reads super and stable finds Buick.

Giving respect to 13 Summerghand (Bet Now: $7.50). On the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at Ripon where I think he was on the wrong part of the track nearer the inside and battled away really well when fourth. Gets a suck run from the inside gate and will be strong late.

10 Mums Tipple (Bet Now: $12.00) has found winning form again…can he hold it? Long time out of the winners list prior to winning at Newmarket last time in what was a fair race but the win was solid and he does have a win at the track/distance, plus gets Frankie sticking, so he appeals.

1 Rocket Rodney (Bet Now: $2.50) is the straight bat option. He has been one of the more consistent juveniles this season, running so well in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot. Dominant win at Sandown before going to Glorious Goodwood when beaten as an even money favourite but was beaten by a good one. He has the form and hard fitness to take this out.

10 Treasure Trove (Bet Now: $4.20) is on the seven day back up after racing in a Listed race at the Curragh last Saturday where she drove through nicely between runners and looked the winner, but was nabbed on the peg. Gets the pull in the weights, hard fit and in form. Likeable.

2 Bolt Action (Bet Now: $8.00) should be around the mark. Nice debut win before a solid sixth in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot before going to Goodwood where he ran a solid third in a strong Nursery. I dout he’s good enough to beat the first two, but runs well regardless.

9 Special Envoy (Bet Now: $4.40) on top in the closer. Team Gosden trained Juddmonte galloper that is rising a bit in depth, but he’s heading in the right direction and is in the right hands. Dominant win over 2299m at Winsdor last time, albeit he beat little. Good test here, drawn tricky, but I’ll leave it in the capable hands of Frankie.

8 Phantom Flight (Bet Now: $3.40) commands respect. Put together a couple of strong wins at the mile before stepping up to this trip at Newmarket last time and stayed on quite well when third. He has that 2000m run under the belt, which should hold in good stead for this.

2 Forest Falcon (Bet Now: $12.00) is a big improver here. He ran twice during Glorious Goodwood. He won on the Tuesday meeting before backing up on the Saturday program where he was ridden horrifically on speed and tired late. Jockey upgrade, his best is good enough to be dangerous.
