The iconic Ebor Festival at York kicks off this Wednesday night Australian time with a bumper seven race card, headlined by the Group l Juddmonte International Stakes (2062m).
International Stakes 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the International Stakes
Race 1. (22:50) Sky Bet & Symphony Group Handicap 1087m
13 Twilight Calls (Bet Now: $6.00) on top in what looks a tricky race to start the program. Showed really good ticker to win two back at Newmarket before going to Goodwood when getting little luck at the start in a game effort when fourth. Clean getaway this time around and he can take it out.
The weather and track rating will determine how strong the winning claims of 2 Hurricane Ivor (Bet Now: $9.00) are. He has struggled on wet ground in recent times, notably last time out at Goodwood when beaten a long way out and failing to come on. If the track is on the dry side, he can bounce back.
8 Desert Safari (Bet Now: $9.50) is racing really well at the moment and is a key threat. He ran last week at Ascot and closed off his race with real purpose, just missing out on the win in a close finish. He handles all conditions, he’s genuine and tries hard, so he’ll take beating.
Race 2. (23:25) Acomb Stakes 1408m
1 Dubawi Legend (Bet Now: $2.80) looks an exciting prospect and if he runs up to the debut win, he will be winning here. That debut came down the straight at Doncaster where he showed electric change up speed when asked and away he went. He was dominant and really confident he can make it 2/2.
4 Noble Truth (Bet Now: $3.75) has the Charlie Appleby polish and commands respect. Not sure he beat a great deal at Newmarket last time out but the change up speed was there to see and despite doing that, he did a bit wrong and the margin flattered his rivals. Leading contender.
3 Imperial Fighter (Bet Now: $7.00) comes here as a debut winner at Goodwood over 1400m. The knock is the overall time was horrendously slow, but he did draw clear late and was dominant. He will need to improve off that but on a firmer deck, he could well do that, so not penning him.
Race 3. (00:00) Great Voltigeur Stakes 2384m
I was really disappointed to see 1 Kemari (Bet Now: $4.50) not in the Melbourne Cup noms because he looked such an ideal Cup candidate. His win at Royal Ascot was electric and he made an absolute mess of them. Slightly back in trip and up in weight, but he looks a really good prospect.
4 Sir Lucan (Bet Now: $3.75) is heading to Australia for the Melbourne Cup for Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott. His recent form reads quite well and likely heads to the St Leger after this before going to Flemington so will be interesting to see how he goes against dime quality types.
7 Yibir (Bet Now: $13.00) looks to have his share of talent. Impressive winner two back at Newmarket before going to the Gordon at Goodwood where he just went way too keen in the run and had nothing left for the straight. If he can relax better in the run, he can bounce back.
Race 4. (00:35) Juddmonte International Stakes 2062m
2 Mishriff (Bet Now: $2.75) on top in what looks a race in two. Team Gosden trained galloper that ran a game second in the King George last time out behind Adayar, the Derby winner who is a rising star, so that form is A1 and he looks the one to beat the way he’s going.
3 Love (Bet Now: $4.20) is a gun mare for Aidan O’Brien that has a question mark on how well she is actually going. Narrow first up win at Royal Ascot before going to the King George and just whacked away when third. If she brings her best, she will take some beating.
7 Alcohol Free (Bet Now: $7.00) is a top class filly that has earned a crack at this level. Surprised some with her win over Poetic Flare at Goodwood at Group l level. Can she measure up against the big boys and girls? Only time will tell, but a win wouldn’t entirely shock, though for mine she is a bit behind Mishriff and Love.
Race 5. (01:10) Sky Bet Handicap 3269m
1 Makawee (Bet Now: $23.00) is nominated for the Melbourne Cup so you’d assume this run will determine if she makes the trip over or not. The key to her is racing at York on dry ground. That is her A1 set up and she gets that here, so at $21+, can happily speck her 1×3 at those odds.
2 Elysian Flame (Bet Now: $9.50) is a model of consistency and is a safe option. He’s been around the mark of late, two back placing at Royal Ascot before a game third at Glorious Goodwood. He doesn’t really have a turn of foot, but is a stayer and will keep on.
7 Get Shirty (Bet Now: $15.00) is a very interesting runner. Former French stayer that is a stablemate of Makawee and commands respect given he has some strong form lines next to his name and his best is certainly more than capable. If he remains firm in betting, good sign he’s ready to go.
Race 6. (01:45) It Pays To Buy Irish Stakes 1008m
Good little race for the females with a stack of winning prospects. 1 Tweet Tweet (Bet Now: $6.00) gets the nod though. Bit of quality about her first up win at Haydock. Had a suck run behind the speed before finding the outside fence and unleashing a powerful finale to win and win well. Got improvement to come and has good change up speed, so she’ll do me.
2 Tenaya Canyon (Bet Now: $4.75) has done little wrong this time in. Ran down the straight at Doncaster last time out where she let down with purpose and got the job done impressively. Didn’t exactly savage the line late but had enough in hand. Hard fit and in form, she’s likeable.
13 Ventura Storm (Bet Now: $26.00) is a well raced four year old that is consistent and is big odd for a mare that is around the mark more often than not. Had a suck run behind the speed at Beverley last time out and closed off her race nicely when third. Not sure she wins, but one for multiples.
Race 7. (02:20) Sky Bet Nursery 1207m
3 Bosh (Bet Now: $4.75) looks the safe option in the get out. Richard Hannon trained colt that ran down the straight at Naas last time out when back in the run and closing off strongly towards the outside when second. He’s done little wrong in his career to date so happy to be in his corner.
13 I’m A Gambler (Bet Now: $15.00) comes here as a last start winner having broken his maiden down the straight at Hamilton Park. He was there to be beaten but found plenty when asked and in the end drew clear. Harder here but he looks to have ticker and should be strong late.
14 Sisters In The Sky (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Showcasing colt that is showing promise. Broke the maiden tag at Goodwood last time out under Hollie Doyle, finishing off strongly in a race which had good depth to it. Got more upside than most and good lead that Doyle sticks.
