There will be 8 races conducted on the Woodbine, Canada card set down for Thursday morning (18th July) Australian time. Here are Canada-based Aussie tipster, Ric Chapman’s thoughts and tips.
He will be trackside.
Race 1 – 1800m 8:45am – Turf
At this level, CRUMLIN TIME looms large. Goes out toward the lead and in this field, which isn’t overly deep with talent, she should take up the cudgel and lead them. Desperately unlucky not to win same grade last start when wobbling round home turn. WHAT’S IN A KISS was on the paint all the way, got clear when they turned but really only plodded home when 4th last start in the race Crumlin Time was 2nd in. Similar conditions so can’t see her beating the other one, but they do appear better than the rest. REXDALE doesn’t have a lot of talent but can plod home and looks a place show. She is owned by the boss of Woodbine.
(2) CRUMLIN TIME, 2. (4) What’s In A Kiss, 3. (6) Rexdale
Race 2 – 1300m 9:20am – Turf
GOLD LACE has the form jock on top, has won her past 5 starts and looks very well placed here as she appears to be coming back in grade. If you can get $2.20 or better, take it as she looks pretty sharp this grade. Will sit behind the speed pair of MISS SAVVY and COPPER FOX. Both are competent this level on their day but these types tend to take each other on early which will play into Gold lace’s hands. WESTLODGE INTRIGUE will be big odds but can plod home late.
(4) GOLD LACE, 2. (6) Copper fox, 3. (5) Westlodge Intrigue
Race 3 – 1100m 9:50am – Synthetic
Maiden race with a couple here showing ability but yet to make it all happen. TAKE IT EASY may be the play. She’s a lightly race 3YO filly who has form this level on this surface. Was sent to race on the turf last start and just didn’t finish the race off. Back to the synthetic here may turn on her on again. ADABEL has loads of early pace and took advantage of that when fresh last start. Looked in need of the run as they finished the race, she was wilting. That was on turf and this synthetic surface suits front-runners more. Upset chance. KEWANNE is in a strong maiden than she usually runs in but is consistent and will pick off a few of these late.
(5) ADABEL, 2. (1) Take It Easy, 3. (6) Kewanne
Race 4 – 1400m 10:18am – Turf
KATE’S WHISTLE has her foot on the till. Has the top jock to ride and good gate. Will be there all the way. LUCKY GIRASOL is making turf debut but has raced much, much better opposition in recent starts on the synthetic. Mind you, has been soundly walloped by them but this represents a big drop in class. GYPSY JAZZ is a speed horse and may find the front here on her own. This is shorter and easier than her last start when on pace and weakening final 200m.
(5) LUCKY GIRASOL, 2. (6) Gypsy Jazz, 3. (2) Kate’s Whistle
Race 5 – 1400m 10:50am – Synthetic
This is a maiden and I’m on ROCHE’S POINT here who has had just the one run. That was when 2nd in similar company. That experience along with the rails draw make her a chance to be right on the speed, if not the lone leader, all the way home. THIS ROUND’S MINE was thrashed on debut, but did race greenly early and looked like she had no idea what racing was all about. Gets the top jock on here and blinkers for the first time which may turn her around completely so that she is very competitive. SWEET SHADES has been recording nice times in her work outs. Will be a good price but should be put in your exotics.
(1) ROCHE’S POINT, 2. (5) This Round’s Mine, 3. (3) Sweet Shades
Race 6 – 1600m 11:20am – Inner Turf
NEVAEH’S VALENTINE is fast and may just find himself out in front, shooting the breeze on his pat. Probably isn’t up to this if they attack him mid race, but the inner track favours speed horses and important to note – he’s won 5 races in his life, all at this trip. SURGICAL STRIKE was a stakes level horse in his past life and is still an entire. Drops to $40ok claimer here. That should spell runaway victor, but is resuming here. Watch betting. BLACK SEA was cantering coming to the bend in tough race when resuming last start, then held up for a run before plodding when he did see daylight. Was clearly in need of the outing and should be forgiven.
(1) SURGICAL STRIKE, 2. (7) Nevaeh’s Valentine, 3. (3) Black Sea
Race 7 – 1700m 9:50am – Synthetic
FLORIDA WON was sent straight to the front last start on turf in a longer race than this and folded final 200m. Ok, that experiment failed so back to his class, in a shorter race on a surface he’s won on before. Looks very hard to catch if he rolls along without a challenger early. GUITAR GEORGE has been such a good servant over the years for his connections winning 6 times at Woodbine. He made good ground late for 4th in a slowly run affair last start. There will be speed on here so he should be the one flashing home late. Has the top jock on board too. DIFFERENTIAL is by a good Aussie stallion, Denman, and he does have 3 wins to his credit at this track. Up a little in grade but put in your numbers.
(5) FLORIDA WON, 2. (3) Guitar George, 3. (4) Differential
Race 8 – 1300m 12:20pm – Synthetic
This is a weak field. I HAVE FEELINGS off the inside has an advantage so have in your numbers. SKY VISION has grit this distance having won 3 times at it so looks to be on pace all the way. Did lead all way to win a similar race last start. UNSEEN ANGELS is a 6YO mare but she has won up to Allowance level and 12 races in total so that means she is just far, far better performed than these.
(7) UNSEEN ANGELS, 2. (6) Sky Vision, 3. (1) I Have Feelings
