17/9/2025 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Happy Valley

Eight races will be run and won at Happy Valley this Wednesday night where the depth looks pretty good across the program.

2 Silver Spurs (Bet Now:  $SP.00) to produce sustained speed from the front. He resumes for Casper Fownes, with his form towards last season being at 1200m when on speed and tiring late. Fresh at 1000m I like, trialled well, lands on speed and takes beating I say.

1 Golden Friendship (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Toronado that resumes. He hasn’t raced since July 16 here when down the track behind Tactical Command. Like him fresh at 1000m, trialled well for the return and good lead that Purton is booked.

7 Triumphant Warrior (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is first up here and I dare say is a threat. He resumes, having not raced since July 16 over 1200m here when down the track but was found to have blood in the trachea. Trialled well enough to my eye, watch betting.

2 Mighty Commander (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks prepped right up for a fresh assault. Casper Fownes trained gelding that does seem better suited over a bit further but he went like a rocket in a recent trial, suggesting he is ready to go here. Hopefully the market agrees.

6 California Blitz (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is dangerously with his best. He had two runs last prep, placing fresh at Sha Tin over 1200m before going to this track/distance when far from disgraced in defeat behind Vulcanus. His best is certainly good enough so watch betting.

1 Star Glow (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Better Than Ready gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since July 1 when racing over 1200m at Sha Tin and was never really a factor behind Pakistan Legacy. Given the good break and his best is more than good enough so watch betting.

4 Prince Alex (Bet Now:  $SP.00) each way for me. He ran last Wednesday over the mile here where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never threatening, he kept finding the line and was pretty good late in the piece. Like him up to 1800m, he has the run under the belt…one of the leading contenders.

9 Firefoot (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver after racing last Wednesday over the mile here. He got into a decent spot behind the speed and did try hard but just couldn’t quite get involved and finish his race off. Better for the run and does get Zac Purton to steer.

1 Samarkand (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver up to 1800m. He is another that resumed over the mile here last Wednesday. He was off speed and made up minimal headway, never really threatening. His best is good enough so I am not dismissing him.

4 Excellence Value (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks ready to rock and roll first up for Mark Newnham. He resumes, having not raced since July 1 over the mile a5 Sha Tin where he got back to near last in the run and although he did make up ground, he was never a winning threat. Two trials under the belt suggests intent and he strikes a winnable race.

1 I Can (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after resuming last Wednesday at this track/distance when off speed and worked home with real purpose late in the piece when third. Better for the run, can settle closer in the run, he’s dangerous.

2 Romantic Laos (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Pins that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since July 16 over this track/distance when off speed and was never really a threat behind Highland Rahy. Maps ideally to my eye and the trial to get ready was more than encouraging.

4 Honest Witness (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the good thing on the program. David Hayes trained gelding that resumes, with his last run seeing him finish second to Tactical Command in the race mentioned above when on speed and fighting hard. Looks to have found a winnable race, trialled well and Purton is on.

3 New Power (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Swiss Ace that resumes. He did some nice things towards the end of last season, winning three back before placing in his subsequent two runs. Trial to get ready was encouraging. Just needs to overcome the tricky draw.

2 Mega Bonus (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is first up and dangerous at odds. His last run was July 16 over this track/distance when leading and tiring late behind Vulcanus. If he can get across without spending too many petrol tickets, his best is good enough to be a threat.

6 Vulcanus (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for me. He ended last season on a high with a strong win at this track/distance in the race mentioned above, getting a beaut run in transit and finished best to score. Lands in a plum spot from the good draw and the recent trial suggests he is ready to go. Hard to beat.

4 Genius Baby (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Too Darn Hot that resumes for David Hayes. He is first up, having not raced since July 16 at this track/distance where he didn’t get the clearest of runs in the race behind Monarch County but wasn’t beaten too far. His best is certainly good enough to threaten and win so watch betting.

10 Nebraskan (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is first up for John Size and commands respect. He ran over this track/distance on July 9 when attempting to lead throughout and he gave a decent kick but just felt the pinch late. Dangerous if he can get across and not use too much energy in doing so.

8 Candlelight Dinner (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for me. He ended last season with a couple of runs at this track/distance and was quite effective, the latest seeing him place behind track specialist Whizz Kid. He has the speed to land near the front and the way he finished last season, I am confident he can measure up against these.

4 La Forza (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the watch horse. Would blow these away if he produced his best, but his last couple of runs have seen him put up the white flag rather easily. The positive is that despite that, Purton sticks, so he must be showing something in trackwork. Watch the market.

1 Superb Capitalist (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran fifth in the Whizz Kid race mentioned above. He had a decent run in transit behind the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there. Looked very sharp in a recent trial win and I suspect from the gate, he may try and hold up rather than opt for a sit. He can win.

4 Encountered (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the each way speck of the meeting. His recent racing towards the end of last season came at Sha Tin, where he ran okay, but he is clearly a much better horse at Happy Valley, with his track/distance record being outstanding. Karis Teetan sticks with Jim and although he’ll get back, he will be quite strong at the end.

6 Soleil Fighter (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Sea The Moon gelding that resumes for David Hayes. He’s pretty much in an identical spot to Encountered. Ran at Sha Tin towards the end of last season, far from disgraced, but is a much better horse at Happy Valley. Purton sticks and his trial work to get ready has been strong.

3 Telecom Fighters (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a threat if he gets some form of front end control. He resumes, with his last run seeing him lead here and tired late to finish down the track behind Hong Lok Golf. If he can get a cheap furlong or two in front, he’ll be a threat.
