Multiple stakes winner Bellatrix Star is set to go under the hammer next week as the headline offering in the Inglis Digital September (Early) Sale.
The 275-lot catalogue provides breeders with a wide selection at the beginning of the new breeding season, including race fillies, broodmares, yearlings and other breeding prospects.
Bellatrix Star shapes as the standout offering after a racing career that produced four stakes victories from just 13 starts before being cut short.
The daughter of Star Witness was a Group 2 winner as a two-year-old before returning at three to establish herself among the country’s leading sprinting fillies.
She put together three successive black-type victories during a breakout spring campaign before finishing runner-up to Switzerland in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington.
The performance placed Bellatrix Star among a select group of fillies to have finished in the placings in the Coolmore Stud Stakes during the past decade.
Inglis Bloodstock Sales Manager Brett Gilding said the mare had made a strong impression during a recent inspection at Cranbourne.
“James Price inspected her at Cranbourne earlier this week and said she’s a beauty,” Gilding said.
“I have pestered John Galvin repeatedly about selling her and while it’s disappointing that he and his partners probably never got to see the very best of her, we’re determined to get them the very best result that we can through the sale.”
Gilding also believes Bellatrix Star possesses significant upside as a broodmare and could produce highly sought-after yearlings in the future.
“She makes a hell of a lot of appeal and it’s fairly obvious that she’s going to breed million-dollar yearlings for someone if she breeds them looking like her,” he said.
