Seven stakes wins in 36 days signal that Champion Sire Snitzel is once again powering up for a big Autumn, and Castlereagh Kid is ready to be part of it.
Winner of his two previous starts at Gosford and Sandown, the 3YO gelding took early control of Saturday’s $300,000 MRC Autumn Classic 1800m G2, and extended decisively in the straight to hold off Lucky Decision and El Patroness.
He is the 119th stakeswinner of Snitzel’s career, his 15th this season, and the 10th stakeswinner that has so far emerged from his 2018 crop.
Jockey Damien Oliver endorsed Castlereagh Kid’s Australian Derby G1 nomination.
“He does feel like he’s a genuine stayer. What I really like about him is when he’s challenged halfway down the straight, he seems to find a second wind and go again which is an unusual quality for an Australian-bred horse.”
Castlereagh Kid, out of city winner Absolute Joy (by Zabeel), is a home-bred for John Singleton’s Strawberry Hill Stud, and he’s trained by the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott stable that also prepared his most famous relatives, Group 1 winners Tuesday Joy, Sunday Joy & More Joyous.
It’s a family Arrowfield has also worked with, as the breeder of Castlereagh Kid’s Oaks-winning grand-dam Joie Denise & co-breeder of Sunday Joy, and now breeding from two other distinguished family members Don’t Doubt Mamma and Fenway.
Don’t Doubt Mamma has a Dundeel filly selling from the Kulani Park draft in Monday’s session of the Inglis Premier Sale, and Arrowfield will offer Fenway’s Snitzel daughter at the Inglis Easter Sale.
Snitzel’s productive day at Caulfield included Group placings by Away Game (a valiant runner-up in the Oakleigh Plate G1) and 3YOs Generation and Yearning.
The Champion Sire’s influence was also evident in the Angus Armanasco S. G2 winner Lavish Girl (out of a Snitzel mare), the Blue Diamond S. G1 (runner-up Revolutionary Miss is by his son Russian Revolution) and the Liverpool Cup G3 at Randwick (won by Spill The Beans’ son Ellsberg).
Snitzel has 10 lots on offer at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale and 26 yearlings at Inglis Easter – 16 of them offered by Arrowfield.
