In shaping a defining new era for Rosemont Stud at Gnarwarre in Victoria, it’s the magnificent Schwarz who retires in 2025, accompanied by Dubawi’s heir Henry Longfellow.
“Schwarz, I haven’t trained a better looking, more imposing colt than him, nor many faster,” said trainer John O’Shea as Schwarz retires as the only Australian Group 1 WFA son of Zoustar.
“The highest-rated yearling I have seen in years for type, pedigree, sire-line, speed, attitude and Group 1 Weight-for-Age success in winning the William Reid Stakes – he’s a slam dunk prospect.”
In winning five stakes races, he’s the first $1m yearling to become a Group 1 WFA winning Australian sprinter at 1000m to 1200m, that has retired to stud in Australian in over a decade.
In his last five outings as a 4yo, Schwarz won the William Reid Stakes of 1200m in 1-11.63s on a soft track, plus two Group 2 WFA victories at 1200m in the Australia Stakes and Missile Stakes.
He not only had the right attitude for a colt to train on at four, he won 6 of his 13 starts at three and four including the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas and Springtime Stakes, both at 1400m.

“He combines everything you would wish for in an elite stallion prospect in type, sire-line, pedigree, attitude and Group 1 winning speed, with Zoustar being the Champion Sire of 2024-25.’
Taking the eye of John O’Shea from the Widden draft at the 2022 Magic Millions, he was purchased on behalf of Rosemont Stud and agent Suman Hedge for owners Rosemont Alliance.
“He’s the highest-rated yearling I have seen in years, and it’s scary how rare it is for a colt to fetch $1million plus at the sales, and can achieve Group 1 Weight-for-Age success.”

‘As a flawless, unbeaten juvenile’ who scored an ‘eye-catching’ 5-length victory of the Group 1 National Stakes, he also took out the Group 2 Futurity Stakes, also at 7 furlongs.
At three, Henry Longfellow was the Champion 3YO Miler of 2024 in being second in the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes, third in Group 1 Prix du Moulin and fourth in Group 1 Sussex Stakes.
In being from the European Champion 2YO and 3YO Minding, the greatest ever daughter of Galileo in having won seven Group 1’s and said to be the best filly ever trained out of Ballydoyle.
His multiple Group 1 winning grandam Lillie Langtry was a 3YO champion herself, sired by Danehill Dancer, while Minding is a full-sister to the Group 1 winners Tuesday and Empress Josephine.
