Home Affairs has moved to the brink of an extraordinary first-season double after strengthening his claims for both Australia’s champion first-season sire and champion two-year-old sire titles.
The Coolmore-based dual Group 1 winner enhanced his position on Thursday when two of his juveniles scored impressive victories at provincial meetings in New South Wales and Victoria.
Already the sire of this season’s Golden Slipper winner Guest House, Home Affairs edged past four-time champion sire Snitzel on the two-year-old earnings table.
The charge began with Hearts Affair, trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, who made a winning return at Kembla Grange.
Just 90 minutes later, Covert Action completed the double with an impressive all-the-way debut victory for trainers Shane Nichols and Hayden Black at Cranbourne.
With only a fortnight remaining in the racing season, Home Affairs’ Australian two-year-olds have now amassed $4,970,550 in prizemoney.
The earnings from Hearts Affair and Covert Action lifted him $4,030 clear of Snitzel in the battle for the champion two-year-old sire premiership.
If he can maintain that advantage through the remainder of the season, Home Affairs will cap a remarkable first crop highlighted by elite-level success and a growing list of promising young winners.
