The rise of Half Yours as a genuine Caulfield Cup contender has seen his sire St Jean’s service fee jump sharply to $11,000 (inc GST) this season.
Prepared by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, Half Yours booked his place in the Cup with an emphatic victory in the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes last Saturday, a performance that saw him promoted to equal $5 favourite for the October feature.
Bookmakers wasted no time trimming his odds despite the gelding receiving a 1.5kg penalty, while the stud standing his sire also moved quickly to capitalise on the momentum, announcing a more than threefold fee increase for St Jean.
Previously covering small books of five, six, eight and seven mares at a fee of $3300, the son of Teofilo has produced 12 winners from 22 runners while standing at Brackley Park in Victoria. His profile has soared on the back of Half Yours’ breakout campaign.
Studmasters Grant and Joanna Dwyer confirmed the hike, citing a surge in breeder interest since Half Yours’ emergence as one of the spring’s headline contenders.
Bought for $305,000 through an Inglis Digital Sale last year, Half Yours will head next to the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes before pressing on to the Caulfield Cup, with Jamie Melham booked to ride.
