Flightline colt smashes records with $14.6 million in OBS sale

A colt by Flightline has set a new benchmark at the OBS April Sale, selling for US$10.5 million AUD$14.6 million on Friday to Zedan Racing Stables in a record-breaking transaction for the sales company.

Catalogued as hip 1056, the colt attracted significant attention after recording a blistering furlong in 9.3 seconds during the under-tack show, cementing his status as one of the standout lots.

Agent Donato Lanni signed the purchase on behalf of Zedan Racing Stables, with the ownership confirmed on the OBS website following the sale.

Bred in Kentucky by Edward and Beverly Seltzer alongside W.S. Farish, the colt is out of the Into Mischief mare Lucrezia. She captured both the Sandpiper Stakes and Suncoast Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs in 2020 and finished second to Swiss Skydiver in the Group 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks that same year.

The colt’s second dam is the Rahy mare Verdana Bold, a Group 3 winner who also produced stakes-winning Medaglia d’Oro mare Ghalia and stakes-placed Curlin gelding Copperplate.

This was not his first time through the sales ring, having previously sold for $575,000 as a weanling at the Keeneland November Sale in 2024 when purchased by Classic Equine.

The $10.5 million price establishes a new record for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company, eclipsing the previous mark of $3 million paid by Zedan Racing for Brant at the OBS March Sale in 2025.

Brant has since won two of his four starts, including the Group 1 Del Mar Futurity in September, although he has not raced since finishing fifth behind stablemate Potente in the Group 2 San Felipe Stakes on March 7.

Despite the record, the colt does not become the highest-priced two-year-old in training of all time, with that distinction still held by The Green Monkey, who sold for $16 million at the Fasig-Tipton February Sale in 2006.
