Mudlark chases the rain as Randwick bog could do the trick.

A busy time lies ahead Henry Dwyer as preparations reach a critical point before Asfoora sets off for another tilt at Royal Ascot glory next month.

The Group 1 King Charles III Stakes (1000m) winner in 2024 will have her final hit-out at Flemington on Friday in an outing that Dwyer hopes will sharpen her up after what he considered to be a ‘flat run’ in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville last month.

In between is a trip to Sydney on Saturday where noted wet-tracker Wuddzz is set to find the conditions that suit him best in the P F Civil Handicap (2400m), in favour of an event in South Australia where finer weather prevails.

“He is a deadest mudlark,” Dwyer said.

“He has rarely had a track wet enough over the past two years and every time he finds one he pretty much wins.

“It is like he missed two years of his life as we only got him as a five-year-old and rising eight, he has only found a wet track a couple of times.”

A last start winner over 2350-metres on a Soft 6 rated track at Warrnambool on April 29, Wuddzz will relish heavy going after persistent rain in Sydney – including up to 70mm forecast as possible over Thursday and Friday – is expected to continue and ease on race day.

“2400-metres is perfect and even better that it is wet,” he added

Wuddzz, pronounced like ‘suds’, was purchased for NZ$600 in an online auction in 2021 by a syndicate who then sent the gelding to Ballarat-based Dwyer a year later.

After the Warrnambool win, the galloper’s prizemoney passed the $205,000 mark with five wins and 11 starts in 31 outings.

He is rated a $6 at Randwick on Saturday with Dylan Gibbons to ride.
