Inglis Classic buyers did not have many opportunities to buy stock by Fastnet Rock at this year’s sale, so it was no surprise the first youngster offered proved popular.
A half-sister to Group 1 winner Silent Sedition offered early on Day 3 was bought by Ciaron Maher Racing bloodstock manager Will Bourne in partnership with Australian Bloodstock and Lustre Lodge for $500,000 – the fifth youngster of the sale to realise at least that amount and the second most expensive filly.
“There was a lot of a quality on the page and as a physical,” Bourne said. “She’s a nice type, (has a) deep girth and real quality head.
“I’m glad I purchased her with Jamie Lovett and Luke Murrell as opposed to bidding against them.”
The filly is a daughter of the Dubai Destination mare Fiorentina, who is out of the Coolmore Classic winner Porto Roca, who also produced the Dubai World Cup winner Monterosso.
Fiorentina has had four foals to race, all of whom have won, the best being Silent Sedition (by War Chant), who won the 2017 William Reid Stakes.
Coolmore, which stands Fastnet Rock, offered the filly for sale and was pleased to see her command a place among one of the highest-priced lots of the sale.
“She was the standout filly on the farm from Day 1,” Coolmore Australia’s Farm Manager John Kennedy said.
“The Classic Sale is really developing into a good source of winners every year and all the right people come here every season, so we really wanted to target it with a nice filly.
“We came here to standout and that’s what she did.”
