Godolphin has confirmed the retirement of classy mare Zardozi, bringing to a close a career that featured top-level performances across multiple seasons.
The announcement was fittingly made on VRC Oaks Day, the race in which Zardozi secured her lone Group 1 triumph in 2023.
The daughter of Kingman consistently competed at the elite level, placing in both the Group 1 Australian Oaks and Vinery Stud Stakes. She also finished third in the Group 1 Metropolitan and Australian Cup, and ran a brave fourth in both a Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup.
This spring, Zardozi struggled to reproduce her peak form, with her final appearance coming in the Caulfield Cup, where she finished tenth, beaten five lengths.
