Bargain-priced filly Uncomplicated has emerged as a possible winter star for Caloundra trainer Stuart Kendrick.
Uncomplicated stunned even Kendrick when she won on debut at the Sunshine Coast on April 1.
She started at $41 that day but will be much shorter in Saturday’s Two-Year-Old Handicap (1350m) at Doomben.
At the Sunshine Coast, Uncomplicated did not go around a horse when she flashed home over 1000m.
Kendrick, who paid $3000 for Uncomplicated from an online sale, believes the filly will be even better when the distances get longer.
Uncomplicated is by Akeed Mofeed, a dual Group One winner in Hong Kong.
“Of the three horses I got off the online sale she was the cheapest. So she might turn out to be a real surprise package,” Kendrick said.
“I am not getting ahead of myself but if she races well on Saturday the winter is a real possibility.
“It isn’t a big field on Saturday but there are a couple of promising horses so we will get a good idea of where she stands.
“The only worry is there doesn’t look to be a lot of early pace.”
Kendrick said Uncomplicated looked to be continuing on an upward slant.
“Early days she looked like being pretty handy but she hadn’t shown much since then and just surprised us on debut,” Kendrick said.
The trainer is weighing up whether to set three-year-olds Eric The Eel and Star of Michelin for the winter.
“Eric The Eel has had two weeks in the paddock on my farm since his Australian Derby third,” Kendrick said
“There is no Queensland Derby this year but he might run in the Rough Habit Plate and I will see how he is next week.”
Star of Michelin was found to be suffering from heart arrhythmia when he dropped out of a race at Doomben last Saturday.
“It is the second time it has happened. He was bright and well the next day which has us puzzled,” Kendrick said.
“So we have sent him to the university hospital where they are doing tests to get to the bottom of it.
“If they come up with a positive answer we might get him back for the late winter.”
