The investigation into four horses including G1 winning mare Azkadellia has taken a twist with Peter Foster’s alleged associate Thomas Cain claiming to be the owner of the horses.
A document from Thomas Cain’s lawyers outlined he was the rightful owner of Azkadellia, Loveable Rogue, Hart and Mr Simples.
Racing Victoria has since been made aware that Thomas Cain could also be convicted drug importer Matthew Thomas Reed as both men have the same birthday and are both from Canada.
Reed in 2007 was jailed for 12 years for bringing over $200 million dollars worth of cocaine and ecstasy into Queensland.
Trainer of the horses Ciaron Maher told the Courier Mail he was “shocked and terribly disappointed” by the stewards’ investigation.
Ben Connolly the racing manager for Maher has taken a leave of absence until the enquiries have finished.
Racing Victoria chief steward Terry Bailey declined to comment.
