A jigger is a battery powered electric shock device
Racing stewards have issued charges against trainer Todd Austin, Jockey Ric McMahon, and Toni Austin, Todd Austin’s wife, in the fallout following the exposure of a ‘jigger-like’ device being present at a training gallop in the build-up to the Birdsville earlier this year.
After an official three-day inquiry into the incident by Queensland Racing Stewards, the following charges, which, it should be noted, are not criminal in nature, have been issued against the three under the Rules Of Racing.
Todd Austin and McMahon have both been charged with the possession of the device and for providing QRIC Stewards with false or misleading evidence.
Todd Austin has also been charged with of commissioning an act of cruelty to a thoroughbred horse.
Toni Austin has been charged with providing false or misleading information to QRIC stewards.
The trio have until Monday December 12 to submit their pleas to the charges and provide any further submissions.
