Tony Gollan’s dominance of Queensland racing reached another level during the 2025/26 season, with the state’s leading trainer adding multiple premierships to further strengthen his grip on the industry.
While a record-extending 13th consecutive Brisbane Metropolitan Trainers’ Premiership and a first-ever 200-plus winner metropolitan season were major milestones, they were only part of the stable’s remarkable campaign.
Gollan also claimed the Queensland Provincial Trainers’ Premiership for the first time since the 2011/12 season.
Two key factors helped pave the way for that success. The establishment of a provincial base on the Gold Coast expanded the stable’s reach, while the retirement of trainer Mark Currie with four months remaining in the season also reshaped the premiership battle.
Currie ultimately finished just two winners behind Gollan, but the title nevertheless belonged to Queensland’s champion trainer.
Gollan also secured the Gold Coast Trainers’ Premiership, reclaiming a title he had last won in 2020/21 after finishing four wins clear of Adam Campton.
He added the Ipswich Trainers’ Premiership to his collection as well, ending the season with an eight-win advantage in a title he has won on numerous occasions.
The success reflects not only the size of the Gollan operation but also the systems behind it.
From race placement and jockey bookings to managing the individual needs of each horse, the stable has built an enviable record through meticulous planning and consistent execution.
The numbers underline the scale of the achievement.
During the season, Gollan saddled 945 metropolitan runners and a further 272 provincial starters, sending out an extraordinary 1,217 runners across Queensland.
Despite the massive volume, the stable maintained an impressive winning strike rate of 15.5 per cent in metropolitan races and 21.1 per cent at provincial level.
Those figures are particularly notable given the stable regularly fields multiple runners in the same race.
While the premiership trophies continue to accumulate, Gollan’s motivation remains unchanged.
Even after another history-making campaign, the champion trainer continues to search for ways to improve, a relentless pursuit of excellence that has made his stable the benchmark in Queensland racing.
