It would appear a young bloke named Tom Sherry might be well connected.
He is a jockey, a 4kg kid to be exact, with just two rides under his belt thus far.
And no winners!
But that hasn’t stopped some big name trainers seeking him out for Goulburn races on Tuesday.
Very, very easily and quite likely, young Sherry who rides at around 53kg, could land not just a winner on the day, but a treble!
His first ride of the day is on the city placed Canberra winner AEECEE VINCO for trainer Mark Newnham.
And this bloke, who thrashed last week’s stakes runner Girl’s Are Ready on debut at Canberra before going on to place at Warwick Farm, is in a class 1 and is by far the highest rated galloper. If Tom can bounce him out, he could charge across and lead this field home all the way.
Buoyed by that ride and win, Sherry will back up in the very next race on TRIPLE CHOPICE, who again is the highest rated BM runner in the field.
This bloke, unlike his first ride, will be a long way back coming to the bend, but he is expected to fly home from the tail for big time trainers Richard and Michael Freedman.
Then presumably sporting a smile as big as a split watermelon, the inexperienced hoop rejoins the Newnham stable when riding MOSUO in race 6.
And yep, you guessed it – this 2 x winning mare who has a number of recent provincial placings behind her, is the highest BM rated runner in this field.
They are all top weights and all should go very, very close to winning.
And if so, that begs the historical question: has any rider ever won 3 races as a 4kg claimer on the one day?
We wish Tom Sherry all the best on what looks like, potentially, one of the best days of his life.
