Switzerland has run his last race with Coolmore confirming on Monday that the three-year-old had been retired.
Tom Magnier had previously declared that the Chris Waller-trained son of Snitzel would be taking up residence at Coolmore’s Jerrys Plan farm later this year, but waited until this week to confirm his T J Smith Stakes seventh placing would be his final start.
He will stand at an introductory fee of $60,500, which includes GST.
“Switzerland is a horse that we have been looking forward to standing at Coolmore for a long time,” Magnier said.
“He was always the head of his class from when he was broken-in at the farm to when he first arrived in Chris Waller’s stable.
“He was a top-class two-year-old, the fastest ever winner of the Coolmore Stud Stakes and the highest-rated spring three-year-old ever by the great Snitzel.
“Physically, he is a stunning horse who we believe will be extremely easy for breeders to mate to, with a high-class American speed pedigree that lends itself to much of the Australian broodmare population.
“He is a very exciting addition to our roster and we will be supporting him with quality mares from the start.”
Switzerland will become the third son of Snitzel on the Coolmore roster, joining Golden Slipper winner Shinzo and Golden Slipper runner-up Best Of Bordeaux.
A $1.5 million Inglis Easter yearling, Switzerland won half of his 10 starts with last year’s Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes his biggest success.
He also won the Group 2 Todman Stakes as a two-year-old and the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes the start prior to his Coolmore Stud Stakes success.
