Last night three stars of the current and upcoming autumn carnival were sent to spelling paddocks.
They are Anthony Cummings’ stable superstar 3YO filly LIBERTINI, as well as a pair from Newcastle’s Kris Lees’ barn named EL DORADO DREAMING and RED CARDINAL.
Cummings gave word to Racing NSW stewards that Libertini (I Am Invincible-Aloha), who had two starts this time up, latest when 9th in the Gr 1 Newmarket Hcp in Melbourne behind Bivouac, was injured.
She came back to Sydney but Cummings noticed her scratchy in her action and advised connections she needed a spell because of a hind limb injury.
She was being aimed at the Gr 1 TJ Smith.
As for El Dorado Dreaming (Ilovethiscity-solanas) who is already a Gr 1 winner, she is spelling as she has just undergone throat surgery.
Lees was hoping Red Cardinal (Montjeu-Notable) would be a leading contender for the Gr 1 Sydney Cup.
And after his terrific 3rd in the Parramatta Cup that looked on song.
But he suffered a near fore suspensory strain in the Manion Cup last Saturday and has been sent to the spelling paddocks hoping to come back for a Gr 1 Melbourne Cup campaign.
