Amelia’s Jewel has officially been retired from racing, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable career that delivered 10 Stakes victories and won over fans across the country.
Owners Peter and Annie Walsh confirmed the news on Saturday evening, shortly after the five-year-old mare finished fifth in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes.
She will now head to the Inglis Chairman’s Sale, where she will be offered to prospective buyers.
“Following her run in the Group 1 Queen of the Turf today, Peter and Annie Walsh and the Amelia Park team would like to announce the retirement of their star mare, Amelia’s Jewel,” Amelia Park announced on social media.
“They say it takes a village, and this is truly fitting with the Jewel story.
“Those who have supported and offered their guidance throughout this journey are numerous and words cannot express the gratitude and thanks we feel towards those that have come along with us.
“Amelia’s Jewel will now embark on the next stage of her journey and will be offered for sale at the upcoming Inglis Chairman’s Sale.”
Bred from Siyouni, Amelia’s Jewel never competed below Stakes class and quickly established herself as one of Australia’s most talented mares, winning nine of her first 11 outings under the guidance of Western Australian trainer Simon Miller.
She claimed the Group 1 Northerly Stakes as a three-year-old, came agonisingly close to winning the inaugural Quokka behind Overpass, and made a splash in Victoria with Group 2 wins in the Let’s Elope Stakes and the Stocks Stakes, the latter featuring Pride Of Jenni and Deny Knowledge in the placings.
Following a disappointing performance as favourite in the 2023 Toorak Handicap, a near-miss in the Golden Eagle, and a solid showing in the 2024 Goodwood, Amelia’s Jewel transitioned to the care of Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald.
Under their guidance, she captured her fifth Group 2 victory in the Apollo Stakes and nearly added a second Group 1 win in the spring, going down narrowly to Atishu in the Empire Rose Stakes.
Amelia’s Jewel retires with career earnings of $4.12 million.
